1In quello stesso periodo, Gesù stava passando con i suoi discepoli attraverso alcuni campi di grano. Era di sabato, il giorno sacro ai Giudei. I discepoli avevano fame, così cominciarono a cogliere le spighe di grano ed a mangiarne i chicchi.2Ma alcuni Farisei li videro e protestarono: «I tuoi discepoli stanno contravvenendo alla legge», dissero a Gesù, «perché raccolgono il grano di sabato!»3Ma Gesù rispose: «Avete mai letto nelle Scritture che cosa fecero il re Davide e i suoi compagni quando ebbero fame?4Entrarono nel tempio e mangiarono il pane speciale che soltanto i sacerdoti potevano mangiare. Anche quella fu una infrazione alla legge.5E non avete mai letto nei libri della legge di Mosè che i sacerdoti di servizio al tempio possono lavorare anche di sabato?6Ebbene io vi assicuro che qui cʼè qualcuno ben più importante del tempio!7Ma se aveste conosciuto il significato di questo versetto della Scrittura, “Voglio da voi più misericordia che sacrifici”, non avreste condannato degli uomini innocenti.8Perché io, il Messia, sono padrone anche del sabato!»9Poi Gesù si recò alla sinagoga,10dove vide un uomo con una mano paralizzata. I Farisei chiesero a Gesù: «Secondo la nostra legge, è lecito guarire i malati di sabato?» (Naturalmente speravano che rispondesse di sì, così avrebbero potuto arrestarlo).11Gesù allora rispose: «Se aveste soltanto una pecora e vi cadesse nel pozzo proprio di sabato, non vi mettereste al lavoro per salvarla quel giorno stesso? Certamente sì!12E un uomo non vale di più di una pecora? Dunque è lecito fare del bene a qualcuno anche se è sabato».13Poi disse allʼuomo: «Stendi la mano!» Quello ubbidì e la mano paralizzata tornò normale come lʼaltra.14Allora i Farisei si riunirono per tramare lʼarresto e la morte di Gesù.15Ma egli seppe ciò che stavano progettando e lasciò la sinagoga. Molti lo seguirono ed egli guarì tutti i malati,16raccomandando, però, severamente di non raccontare a nessuno i suoi miracoli.17Con questo si avverava la profezia dʼIsaia che si riferiva: a lui:18«Ecco il mio servo. Quello che io ho scelto. In Lui mi sono compiaciuto. Io metterò il mio spirito sopra di lui, ed annuncerà la salvezza a tutti i popoli.19Non discuterà, né griderà e nemmeno terrà discorsi nelle piazze.20Non spezzerà una canna incrinata né spegnerà uno stoppino dalla fiamma smorta.21Sarà lui la speranza di tutto il mondo».22Poi fu portato a Gesù un indemoniato, cieco e muto. Gesù lo guarì e lʼuomo poté parlare e vedere.23La folla era meravigliata. «Forse Gesù è il Messia!» dicevano tutti.24Ma, quando i Farisei seppero del miracolo, insinuarono: «Eʼ soltanto con lʼaiuto di Beelzebùl, il principe dei demoni, che egli scaccia i demoni».25Gesù, conoscendo i loro pensieri, rispose: «Un regno diviso finisce in rovina. Una città o una famiglia divisa dai litigi non possono durare.26Dunque se Satana scaccia Satana, combatte contro se stesso e distrugge il proprio regno.27Se, come sostenete voi, io scaccio i demoni, invocando le potenze di Satana, allora con lʼaiuto di chi li scacciano i vostri seguaci? Perciò saranno proprio loro a giudicarvi per questo.28Ma se invece io scaccio i demoni con lo Spirito di Dio, allora vuol dire che il Regno di Dio è arrivato fra voi.29Non si può entrare nella casa di un uomo forte e portar via i suoi beni senza prima aver legato quellʼuomo forte: solo così può essere derubato.30Chi non è con me è contro di me, chi non raccoglie con me, disperde il raccolto.31-32Perfino la bestemmia contro di me o qualsiasi altro peccato può essere perdonato, tutti i peccati eccetto uno: quello contro lo Spirito Santo. Questo peccato non sarà mai perdonato, né in questo mondo, né in quello che verrà.33Un albero si riconosce dai frutti. Un albero buono produce buoni frutti; mentre un albero cattivo darà frutti scadenti.34Perciò, razza di serpenti, come potete dire cose buone, voi che siete tanto cattivi? Perché dalla bocca esce ciò che si ha nel cuore.35I discorsi di un uomo buono rivelano i ricchi tesori che sono dentro di lui. Un uomo dal cuore malvagio è, invece, pieno di veleno, e lo si capisce dalle sue parole.36Aggiungo questo nel giorno del giudizio dovrete rendere conto di ogni parola inutile.37Dalle vostre parole di ora dipende la vostra sorte futura: proprio da esse sarete giustificati o condannati».
«Dacci una prova!»
38Un giorno, dei capi Giudei, fra cui alcuni Farisei, si presentarono a Gesù per chiedergli di fare un miracolo per provare che egli era realmente il Messia.39-40Ma Gesù rispose: «Soltanto un popolo malvagio e senza fede come questo mi avrebbe chiesto unʼaltra prova, ma nulla vi sarà dato, eccetto il segno del profeta Giona. Perché, come Giona rimase dentro al grosso pesce tre giorni e tre notti, così io, il Messia, resterò sepolto nel cuore della terra tre giorni e tre notti.41Nel giorno del giudizio gli abitanti di Ninive si leveranno contro questo paese e lo condanneranno. Perché, quando Giona predicò, essi si pentirono e, lasciata la cattiva strada, si convertirono a Dio. Ora qualcuno ben più grande di Giona è qui, davanti a voi, e invece voi non volete credergli!42Nel giorno del giudizio la regina di Saba si leverà contro questo popolo e lo condannerà, perché ella venne da una terra lontana per udire la saggezza di Salomone. Ed ora qui davanti a voi cʼè qualcuno ben più grande di Salomone e voi non volete credergli!43-45Questo popolo malvagio è come un uomo posseduto da un demonio. Un giorno il demonio lo lascia e se ne va nel deserto per un poʼ a cercare riposo, ma non lo trova, allora pensa: “Rientrerò nella casa da cui sono uscito”. Vi ritorna e la trova libera, pulita e ordinata! Allora il diavolo va a prendere altri sette spiriti peggiori di lui e poi tutti insieme entrano in quellʼuomo e ci restano. Così la condizione dellʼuomo è peggiore di quella di prima».46-47Mentre Gesù parlava in una casa piena di gente, sua madre e i suoi fratelli aspettavano fuori per parlargli. Quando qualcuno gli disse che erano là,48Gesù disse: «Chi è mia madre? Chi sono i miei fratelli?»49Poi, indicando i suoi discepoli, disse: «Guardate: questi sono mia madre e i miei fratelli!»50Poi aggiunse: «Tutti quelli che ubbidiscono a mio Padre che è in cielo sono miei fratelli, mie sorelle e mia madre!»

(Ag 2,9; Mal 3,1; Mat 12,8; Mat 12,41)7And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. A Man with a Withered Hand
9He went on from there and entered their synagogue. (Mar 3,1; Lu 6,6)10And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him. (Mat 12,2; Lu 11,54; Lu 14,3; Lu 20,20; Giov 8,6)11He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? (Eso 23,4; De 22,4)12Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” (Mat 6,26; Mat 10,31; Giov 5,16)13Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other. (1Re 13,4)14But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.
God’s Chosen Servant
15Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all (Mat 10,23; Mat 19,2; Mar 3,7; Giov 10,39)16and ordered them not to make him known. (Mat 8,4; Mar 1,25; Mar 3,12; Mar 8,30; Lu 4,41; Lu 9,21)17This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: (Mat 1,22)18“Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. (Is 42,1; Is 61,1; Lu 4,18; Giov 3,34; At 4,27; At 4,30; At 10,38)19He will not quarrel or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets;20a bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory;21and in his name the Gentiles will hope.” (Is 11,10; Is 42,4; Ro 15,12)
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
22Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. (Mat 9,32; Lu 11,14)23And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” (Mat 9,27; Giov 4,29; Giov 7,26; Giov 7,31)24But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” (Mat 10,25; Mar 3,22)25Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. (Mat 9,4; Mar 3,23; Lu 11,17)26And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?27And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. (2Re 2,7; At 19,13)28But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Mat 12,18; Mat 19,24; Mat 21,31; Mat 21,43; Lu 17,21)29Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. (Is 49,24; Is 53,12)30Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. (Mar 9,40; Lu 9,50; Lu 11,23)31Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. (Mar 3,28; Lu 12,10; At 7,51; Eb 6,4; Eb 10,26; Eb 10,29; 1G 5,16)32And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit
33“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. (Mat 7,16; Lu 6,43)34You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Mat 3,7; Mat 7,11; Mat 13,52; Mat 15,18; Mat 23,33; Lu 6,45; Ef 4,29)35The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. (Mat 12,34)36I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, (Ec 12,14; At 17,31; Ro 14,12; Ef 5,4; Ef 5,11; 1P 4,5; 2P 1,8)37for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Mat 5,22; Giac 3,2)
The Sign of Jonah
38Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” (Mat 16,1; Mar 8,11; Lu 11,16; Lu 23,8; Giov 2,18; Giov 4,48; Giov 6,30; 1Co 1,22)39But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. (Is 57,3; Mat 16,4; Mar 8,11; Mar 8,38; Lu 11,29; Giac 4,4)40For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Gion 1,17; Mat 17,22)41The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. (Ger 3,11; Ez 16,51; Gion 1,2; Gion 3,5; Mat 12,6; Ro 2,27; Eb 11,7)42The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. (1Re 10,1; 2Cr 9,1; Mat 12,41)
Return of an Unclean Spirit
43“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. (Sal 63,1; Ger 2,6; Lu 11,24)44Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order.45Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.” (Mat 12,39; Giov 5,14; 2P 2,20)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
46While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers[1] stood outside, asking to speak to him.[2] (Mat 13,55; Mar 3,31; Mar 6,3; Lu 8,19; Giov 2,12; Giov 7,3; Giov 7,5; Giov 7,10; At 1,14; 1Co 9,5; Ga 1,19)48But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”49And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!50For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mat 7,21; Lu 11,28; Giov 15,14; Eb 2,11)
