1آنگاه خداوند به موسی فرمود: «يک بلای ديگر بر پادشاه مصر و قومش نازل میكنم تا شما را رها سازد. اين بار او خود از شما خواهد خواست تا مصر را ترک گوييد.2به تمام مردان و زنان قوم اسرائيل بگو كه پيش از رفتن بايد از همسايگان مصری خود طلا و نقره بخواهند.» (3خداوند قوم اسرائيل را در نظر مصریها محترم ساخته بود و درباريان و تمام مردم مصر موسی را مردی بزرگ میدانستند.)4پس موسی به فرعون گفت: «خداوند میفرمايد: حدود نيمه شب از ميان مصر عبور خواهم كرد.5همهٔ پسران ارشد خانوادههای مصری خواهند مرد از پسر ارشد فرعون كه جانشين اوست گرفته، تا پسر ارشد كنيزی كه كارش دستاس كردن گندم است. حتی تمام نخستزادههای چارپايان مصر نيز نابود خواهند شد.6آنچنان شيونی در سراسر مصر خواهد بود كه نظير آن تا به حال شنيده نشده و نخواهد شد.7اما به قوم اسرائيل و حيواناتشان حتی يک سگ هم پارس نخواهد كرد. آنگاه خواهی دانست كه خداوند ميان قوم اسرائيل و قوم تو تفاوت قايل است.8تمام درباريان تو پيش من به زانو افتاده، التماس خواهند كرد تا هر چه زودتر بنیاسرائيل را از مصر بيرون ببرم. آنگاه من مصر را ترک خواهم گفت.» سپس موسی با عصبانيت از كاخ فرعون بيرون رفت.9خداوند به موسی فرموده بود: «فرعون به حرفهای تو اعتنا نخواهد كرد و اين به من فرصتی خواهد داد تا معجزات بيشتری در سرزمين مصر انجام دهم.»10با اينكه موسی و هارون در حضور فرعون آن همه معجزه انجام دادند، اما او بنیاسرائيل را رها نساخت تا از مصر خارج شوند، زيرا خداوند دل فرعون را سخت ساخته بود.
1The Lord said to Moses, “Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely. (خروج 4:23; خروج 12:31; خروج 12:33; خروج 12:39)2Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.” (خروج 3:22; خروج 12:35)3And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people. (خروج 3:21; خروج 12:36)4So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, (خروج 12:29; ايوب 34:20; عاموس 4:10)5and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle. (متیٰ 24:41; نوشته‌ء لوقا 17:35)6There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again. (خروج 12:30; عاموس 5:16)7But not a dog shall growl against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’ (خروج 8:22; خروج 9:4)8And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, you and all the people who follow you.’ And after that I will go out.” And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger. (خروج 12:33)9Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.” (خروج 3:19; خروج 7:3; خروج 7:4; خروج 10:1)10Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, and the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go out of his land. (خروج 4:21)
