1Passados seis dias, Jesus levou Pedro, Tiago e seu irmão João ao cimo de um alto monte. Não havia ali mais ninguém.2E o aspeto de Jesus mudou de tal maneira que o seu rosto brilhava como o Sol e as suas vestes ficaram de uma brancura deslumbrante.3De súbito, Moisés e Elias apareceram e puseram-se a falar com ele.4Pedro disse: “Senhor, que bom é estarmos aqui! Se quiseres, farei três tendas: uma para ti, outra para Moisés e outra para Elias!”5Enquanto falava, uma nuvem brilhante desceu sobre eles e uma voz que dela saía disse: “Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem tenho grande prazer. Ouçam-no!”6Ao ouvirem isto, os discípulos curvaram-se e inclinaram o rosto, muito assustados.7Jesus aproximou-se e tocou-lhes. “Levantem-se, não tenham medo!”8Quando tornaram a olhar, não viram mais ninguém, a não ser apenas o próprio Jesus.9Enquanto desciam do monte, Jesus recomendou-lhes: “Não contem a ninguém o que viram até que o Filho do Homem ressuscite dos mortos.”10E os discípulos perguntaram-lhe: “Então, porque é que os especialistas na Lei insistem que Elias deve vir antes?”11Jesus respondeu: “Elias, de facto, vem para pôr tudo em ordem.12Mas digo-vos: Elias já veio e fizeram dele tudo o que quiseram. Do mesmo modo, também o Filho do Homem será maltratado às mãos deles.”13Então os discípulos perceberam que se referia a João Batista.
A cura do rapaz endemoninhado
14Quando chegaram junto da multidão, um homem ajoelhou-se diante dele e disse:15“Senhor, tem misericórdia do meu filho que tem ataques e anda em grande aflição, pois muitas vezes cai no lume e muitas outras na água.16Já o trouxe aos teus discípulos, mas não conseguiram curá-lo.”17Jesus respondeu: “Ó povo sem fé e obstinado! Até quando terei de andar convosco? Até quando terei de suportar-vos? Tragam-me cá o rapaz!”18Jesus repreendeu o demónio que estava dentro do rapaz e ele deixou-o, ficando bom a partir daquele momento.19Os discípulos perguntaram a Jesus, quando já estavam a sós: “Porque não conseguimos expulsar aquele demónio?”20“Por causa da vossa pouca fé. É realmente como vos digo: se tivessem fé como um grão de mostarda, poderiam dizer a este monte: ‘Sai daqui!’, e ela sairia. Nada vos seria impossível.21Porém, esta casta de demónios não sai senão à força de oração e jejum.”
Jesus fala outra vez da sua morte e ressurreição
22Um dia, estavam ainda na Galileia, Jesus disse-lhes: “O Filho do Homem vai ser entregue nas mãos dos homens,23hão de matá-lo mas, ao terceiro dia, ressuscitará.” E os discípulos encheram-se de tristeza.
O imposto do templo
24Ao chegarem a Cafarnaum, os cobradores de impostos do templo procuraram Pedro e perguntaram-lhe: “O vosso mestre não paga impostos?”25Ele respondeu: “Claro que paga!” Entrando em casa para discutir o assunto com Jesus, antes que Pedro começasse a falar, Jesus perguntou-lhe: “Que achas, Simão? Os reis lançam impostos sobre o seu povo ou sobre os estrangeiros?”26Pedro respondeu: “Sobre os estrangeiros.” Jesus continuou: “Se assim é, os nacionais não têm de pagar.27Contudo, não vamos contrariá-los. Vai ao mar, lança a linha e abre a boca do primeiro peixe que apanhares. Encontrarás uma moeda que vale o bastante para pagar o imposto por ambos; leva-a e paga-lhes.”

(Gn 17:3; Ez 1:28; 2 Pe 1:18; Ap 1:17)7But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” (Dn 8:18; Dn 10:10; Dn 10:18; Mt 14:27)8And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.9And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” (Mt 8:4; Mt 12:16; Mc 9:9)10And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” (Ml 4:5; Mt 11:14)11He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. (Lc 1:16; At 1:6; At 3:21)12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” (Mt 14:3; Mt 14:10; Mt 16:21)13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. (Mt 16:12)
Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon
14And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, (Mc 9:14; Lc 9:37)15said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. (Mt 4:24)16And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” (Mt 10:1; Mc 6:7; Lc 10:17)17And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” (Jo 14:9; Jo 20:27; Fp 2:15)18And Jesus rebuked the demon,[2] and it[3] came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.[4] (Zc 3:2; Mt 8:26; Mt 9:22; Mc 1:25; Lc 4:35; Lc 4:39; Jd 1:9)19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”20He said to them, “Because of your little faith. Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection
22As they were gathering[6] in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, (Mt 16:21; Mt 20:17; Mc 9:30; Lc 9:43)23and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed. (Mc 8:31)
The Temple Tax
24When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” (Ex 30:13; Ex 38:26; Mc 9:33)25He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” (Mt 18:12; Mt 21:28; Mt 22:17; Mt 22:19; Mc 12:14; Rm 13:7)26And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.27However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel.[7] Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”
