1Vocês, filhos, porque são do Senhor, obedeçam aos vossos pais, pois essa é a atitude correta.2“Honra o teu pai e a tua mãe.” Dos dez mandamentos de Deus este é o primeiro que tem uma promessa:3“Para que tenhas uma longa vida na Terra.”4Vocês, os pais, não exasperem os vossos filhos. Antes eduquem-nos seguindo os conselhos e a doutrina do Senhor.
Trabalhadores e patrões
5E vocês, escravos, obedeçam aos vossos senhores aqui na Terra, executando conscienciosamente as vossas tarefas, com respeito e temor, como se fosse para Cristo.6Trabalhem bem; não o façam só para agradar aos patrões, quando estes vos estão a ver,7mas antes como trabalhando para Cristo e como quem está a executar de coração a vontade de Deus;8sabendo também que cada um receberá do Senhor a recompensa por todo o bem que fizer, quer se trate de escravo ou livre.9Quanto a vocês, os patrões, façam a mesma coisa, segundo o mesmo princípio, sem abusar da vossa autoridade, pois lembrem-se de que Deus no céu é Senhor tanto deles como vosso, e que não faz distinção entre pessoas.
A armadura de Deus
10Por último, quero recomendar-vos que procurem fortalecer-se através da comunhão com o Senhor e com a energia do seu poder.11Estejam equipados com todas as armas de Deus para que possam permanecer firmes sem cair nas astutas ciladas do Diabo.12Pois na verdade o nosso combate não é contra seres humanos, mas sim contra governos e autoridades, contra ditaduras que atuam nas trevas, contra verdadeiros exércitos de espíritos do mal nos domínios celestiais.13Por isso, utilizem todas as armas de Deus para que possam resistir, no dia em que algo de maligno vier à vossa vida, e para que depois de terem vencido tudo continuem firmes.14Mantenham-se pois firmes, cingidos com o cinturão da verdade e protegidos com o colete da justiça de Deus.15Que os vossos pés estejam firmados no solo do evangelho da paz.16Tenham sobretudo a fé, pois é um escudo que vos protege contra as flechas incendiárias disparadas pelo Maligno sobre as vossas vidas.17Também vos é necessário o capacete da salvação, assim como a espada do Espírito, que é a palavra de Deus.18Orem a Deus com toda a perseverança, em toda a ocasião, de acordo com o Espírito Santo. Sejam vigilantes no emprego persistente desta arma da oração, apresentando também a Deus as necessidades dos outros crentes.19O mesmo peço que façam por mim, para que Deus, quando falo em seu nome, me dê a possibilidade de o fazer ousadamente, a fim de tornar claro o sentido mais profundo do evangelho.20E é por pregar esta mensagem, pela qual sou como um embaixador, que me encontro aqui nesta prisão. Mas peçam a Deus que eu possa continuar a falar corajosamente, pois convém que ela seja conhecida.
Saudações finais
21Tíquico, nosso querido irmão na fé e fiel companheiro no serviço do Senhor, vos porá ao corrente da minha situação, da minha saúde, dos meus projetos.22Ele vai aí para que saibam como nós vamos, para vos dar notícias e assim fiquem mais animados.23Que a paz de Deus habite no vosso meio, assim como o amor cristão e a fé comunicada por Deus Pai e pelo Senhor Jesus Cristo.24Que a graça do Senhor esteja com aqueles que amam o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo perseverantemente. Bondservants and Masters
5Bondservants,[1] obey your earthly masters[2] with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, (2 Co 11:3; Ef 5:22; 1 Pe 2:18)6not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, (Gl 1:10)7rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man,8knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. (Sl 62:12; Gl 3:28; Cl 3:11)9Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master[3] and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him. The Whole Armor of God
10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. (Rm 4:20; Ef 1:19; Ef 3:16; 2 Tm 2:1; 1 Jo 2:14)11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Jó 29:14; Rm 13:12; 2 Co 10:4; Ef 4:14; Ef 6:13; Ef 6:14)12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Lc 22:53; 1 Co 9:25; Ef 1:3; Ef 1:21; Ef 2:2; Ef 3:10; Cl 1:13)13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
