de Biblica1Portanto, deixem toda a maldade e todo o engano. Ponham de parte a falta de sinceridade, o ciúme, o falar mal uns dos outros.2-3Se já experimentaram a bondade do Senhor, clamem pelo leite espiritual puro, como faz um bebé, para que por ele possam crescer na vossa salvação.
A pedra viva e um povo escolhido
4Cheguem-se a Cristo que é a rocha viva, rejeitada, na verdade, pelos homens, mas de grande valor para Deus que a escolheu.5Vocês também se tornaram pedras vivas para Deus usar na edificação da sua casa espiritual. E são seus santos sacerdotes para através de Jesus Cristo lhe apresentar ofertas do seu agrado.6Como a Escritura o declara: “Eis que ponho em Sião a principal pedra da construção, pedra de muito valor, cuidadosamente escolhida. Aquele que nele crer não será envergonhado.”7Sim, ele é, para vocês que creem, algo de muito precioso; mas para os que o rejeitam: “A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram veio a tornar-se a pedra fundamental do edifício.”8E as Escrituras dizem também noutra parte: “Ele é uma pedra de tropeço, e uma rocha que os fará cair.” Eles tropeçam porque não dão ouvidos à palavra de Deus, nem lhe obedecem, e assim terão o fim para que foram destinados.9Mas vocês são uma família escolhida por Deus, são sacerdotes ao serviço do Rei, são uma nação santa, um povo que Deus adquiriu para que possam mostrar aos outros a grandeza de Deus que vos chamou das trevas para a sua maravilhosa luz.10Antes, não eram considerados povo de Deus; agora sim. Antes, não conheciam a misericórdia de Deus; agora as vossas vidas foram alcançadas por essa misericórdia.11Irmãos, aqui nesta Terra vivem apenas de passagem, como estrangeiros; por isso, peço-vos que se mantenham afastados dos prazeres corruptos, pois combatem a vossa própria alma.12Tenham cuidado quanto à maneira como se comportam no meio dos gentios; porque assim, mesmo que vos caluniem como malfeitores, acabarão por dar glória a Deus, quando Cristo voltar, por causa das vossas boas obras.
O respeito pela autoridade
13Por amor do Senhor, obedeçam às autoridades, seja o rei, por ser a maior autoridade,14ou aqueles que, a mando dele, governam e estão encarregados de reprimir os que praticam o mal e louvar os que fazem o bem.15É a vontade de Deus que, praticando o bem, tapem a boca aos homens ignorantes nas suas conversas loucas.16Vocês são pessoas livres, mas isso não representa liberdade para fazer o mal, antes sim para servirem a Deus.17Respeitem toda a gente. Amem os vossos irmãos na mesma fé. Temam a Deus. Honrem o chefe da vossa nação.18Vocês, servos, devem respeitar a autoridade dos vossos senhores; não só dos bons e humanos, como daqueles que têm um carácter duro.19Porque é coisa apreciável se sofrerem e suportarem contrariedades injustamente, por terem agido conforme a vossa consciência para com Deus!20Contudo, nenhum mérito há em suportar o sofrimento e a oposição, quando se praticou o mal. Mas se fizerem o que é justo e sofrerem com isso, suportando as contrariedades, isso é agradável a Deus.21É para isto que foram chamados, pois também Cristo sofreu em vosso lugar, deixando-vos o exemplo, para que sigam os seus passos.22Ele nunca cometeu pecado, e nunca enganou[1];23nunca replicou aos que o insultavam e sofrendo nunca ameaçou; tudo entregava àquele que julga com justiça.24Levou ele mesmo no seu corpo os nossos pecados sobre a cruz, para que mortos para o pecado pudéssemos viver para a justiça. Pelas suas feridas fomos sarados.25Vocês eram como ovelhas desgarradas; mas voltaram agora para o pastor, o guarda das vossas almas.

(Sl 34:8; Hb 6:5)4As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, (1 Pe 2:6)5you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (Is 56:7; Ml 1:11; Rm 12:1; Rm 15:16; 1 Co 3:9; Ef 2:20; Fp 4:18; Hb 3:4; Hb 3:6; Hb 13:15; 1 Pe 2:9)6For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” (Is 28:16; Rm 9:33; Rm 10:11)7So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”[1] (Sl 118:22; 2 Co 2:16)8and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. (Is 8:14; Rm 9:22; Rm 9:33; Jd 1:4)9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (Ex 19:5; Ex 19:6; Dt 7:6; Dt 10:15; Sl 36:9; Is 42:16; Is 43:20; Is 43:21; Is 61:6; Is 66:21; Ml 3:17; At 26:18; Ap 1:6; Ap 5:10)10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (Os 1:6; Os 1:9; Os 2:23; Rm 9:25; Rm 10:19)11Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. (Lv 25:23; Rm 13:14; Gl 5:24; Tg 4:1)12Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. (Is 10:3; Mt 5:16; Lc 19:44; 2 Co 8:21; 2 Co 9:13; Gl 1:24; Fp 2:15; Tt 2:8; 1 Pe 3:16)
Submission to Authority
13Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,[2] whether it be to the emperor[3] as supreme, (Rm 13:1; Tt 3:1)14or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. (Rm 13:3; Rm 13:4)15For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. (1 Pe 2:12)16Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants[4] of God. (Rm 6:22; 1 Co 7:22; Tg 1:25)17Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. (Pv 24:21; Rm 12:10; Rm 13:7; Hb 13:1)18Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. (Ef 6:5; Cl 3:22; 1 Tm 6:1; Tt 2:9)19For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. (1 Pe 3:14; 1 Pe 3:17; 1 Pe 4:16)20For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. (1 Pe 3:17; 1 Pe 4:13; 1 Pe 4:16)21For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. (Is 53:9; 2 Co 5:21; Hb 4:15; 1 Jo 3:5)23When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
