1Ein Psalm.
A psalm of David. A song for setting apart the completed temple to God.
1LORD, I will give you honour. You brought me out of deep trouble. You didn’t give my enemies the joy of seeing me die.2LORD my God, I called out to you for help. And you healed me.3LORD, you brought me up from the place of the dead. You kept me from going down into the pit.4Sing the praises of the LORD, you who are faithful to him. Praise him, because his name is holy.5His anger lasts for only a moment. But his favour lasts for a person’s whole life. Weeping can stay for the night. But joy comes in the morning.6When I felt safe, I said, ‘I will always be secure.’7LORD, when you gave me your help, you made Mount Zion stand firm. But when you took away your help, I was terrified.8LORD, I called out to you. I cried to you for mercy.9I said, ‘What good will come if I become silent in death? What good will come if I go down into the grave? Can the dust of my dead body praise you? Can it tell how faithful you are?10LORD, hear me. Have mercy on me. LORD, help me.’11You turned my loud crying into dancing. You removed my clothes of sadness and dressed me with joy.12So my heart will sing your praises. I can’t keep silent. LORD, my God, I will praise you for ever.
1A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple. I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. (2Sam 5,11; 1Chr 22,1; Ps 13,4; Ps 25,2; Ps 35,19; Ps 35,24; Ps 107,32)2O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. (Ps 6,2; Ps 88,13)3O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.[1] (Ps 16,10; Ps 28,1)4Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.[2] (1Chr 16,4; Ps 50,5; Ps 97,12)5For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.[3] Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. (Hi 33,26; Ps 63,3; Ps 103,9; Ps 126,5; Jes 26,20; Jes 54,7; 2Kor 4,17)6As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” (Hi 29,18; Ps 10,6; Spr 1,32)7By your favor, O Lord, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed. (5Mo 31,17; 2Sam 5,9; 2Sam 24,10; Ps 104,29)8To you, O Lord, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: (Ps 142,1)9“What profit is there in my death,[4] if I go down to the pit?[5] Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? (Ps 6,5)10Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me! O Lord, be my helper!” (Ps 27,7)11You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, (2Mo 15,20; 2Sam 6,14; Ps 149,3; Ps 150,4; Jer 31,4; Jer 31,13; Kla 5,15)12that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever! (Ps 16,9)
