1Meus irmãos, como crentes em nosso glorioso Senhor Jesus Cristo, não façam diferença entre as pessoas, tratando-as com parcialidade.2Suponham que, na reunião de vocês, entre um homem com anel de ouro e roupas finas e também entre um pobre com roupas velhas e sujas.3Se vocês derem atenção especial ao homem que está vestido com roupas finas e disserem: “Aqui está um lugar apropriado para o senhor”, mas disserem ao pobre: “Você, fique em pé ali”, ou: “Sente-se no chão, junto ao estrado onde ponho os meus pés”,4não estarão fazendo discriminação, fazendo julgamentos com critérios errados?5Ouçam, meus amados irmãos: Não escolheu Deus os que são pobres aos olhos do mundo para serem ricos em fé e herdarem o Reino que ele prometeu aos que o amam?6Mas vocês têm desprezado o pobre. Não são os ricos que oprimem vocês? Não são eles os que os arrastam para os tribunais?7Não são eles que difamam o bom nome que sobre vocês foi invocado?8Se vocês de fato obedecerem à lei do Reino encontrada na Escritura que diz: “Ame o seu próximo como a si mesmo”, estarão agindo corretamente.9Mas, se tratarem os outros com parcialidade, estarão cometendo pecado e serão condenados pela Lei como transgressores.10Pois quem obedece a toda a Lei, mas tropeça em apenas um ponto, torna-se culpado de quebrá-la inteiramente.11Pois aquele que disse: “Não adulterarás” também disse: “Não matarás”. Se você não comete adultério mas comete assassinato, torna-se transgressor da Lei.12Falem e ajam como quem vai ser julgado pela lei da liberdade;13porque será exercido juízo sem misericórdia sobre quem não foi misericordioso. A misericórdia triunfa sobre o juízo!
Fé e Obras
14De que adianta, meus irmãos, alguém dizer que tem fé, se não tem obras? Acaso a fé pode salvá-lo?15Se um irmão ou irmã estiver necessitando de roupas e do alimento de cada dia16e um de vocês lhe disser: “Vá em paz, aqueça-se e alimente-se até satisfazer-se”, sem porém lhe dar nada, de que adianta isso?17Assim também a fé, por si só, se não for acompanhada de obras, está morta.18Mas alguém dirá: “Você tem fé; eu tenho obras”. Mostre-me a sua fé sem obras, e eu mostrarei a minha fé pelas obras.19Você crê que existe um só Deus? Muito bem! Até mesmo os demônios creem—e tremem!20Insensato! Quer certificar-se de que a fé sem obras é inútil[1]?21Não foi Abraão, nosso antepassado, justificado por obras, quando ofereceu seu filho Isaque sobre o altar?22Você pode ver que tanto a fé como as obras estavam atuando juntas, e a fé foi aperfeiçoada pelas obras.23Cumpriu-se assim a Escritura que diz: “Abraão creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi creditado como justiça”, e ele foi chamado amigo de Deus.24Vejam que uma pessoa é justificada por obras, e não apenas pela fé.25Caso semelhante é o de Raabe, a prostituta: não foi ela justificada pelas obras, quando acolheu os espias e os fez sair por outro caminho?26Assim como o corpo sem espírito está morto, também a fé sem obras está morta.

(Lv 19:15; Dt 1:17; Dt 16:19; Pv 24:23; At 7:2; Rm 2:11; 1 Co 2:8; Ef 6:9; Tg 2:9)2For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in,3and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” (Pv 18:23)4have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? (Jo 7:24)5Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? (Jó 34:19; Mt 5:3; Lc 6:20; Lc 12:21; Lc 12:32; 1 Co 1:27; 2 Co 8:9; Tg 1:12; Ap 2:9)6But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? (At 8:3; At 16:19; At 17:6; At 18:12; 1 Co 11:22; Tg 5:6)7Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called? (Is 63:19; Is 65:1; Am 9:12; At 15:17)8If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. (Lv 19:18)9But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. (Tg 2:1)10For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. (Mt 5:19; Gl 3:10)11For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. (Ex 20:13; Ex 20:14)12So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. (Tg 1:25)13For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (Jó 22:6; Sl 18:25; Pv 21:13; Ez 25:11; Mt 6:15; Mt 18:32; Lc 6:38)
Faith Without Works Is Dead
14What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? (Tg 1:22)15If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, (Jó 31:19; Lc 3:11)16and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[2] is that? (1 Jo 3:17)17So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.18But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. (Mt 7:16; Rm 3:28; Rm 4:6; Gl 5:6; Hb 11:33)19You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! (Dt 6:4; Mt 8:29; Mc 1:24; Mc 5:7; Lc 4:33; At 16:17; At 19:15; Rm 2:17)20Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? (Gn 22:9; Gn 22:12; Gn 22:16)22You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; (1 Ts 1:3; Hb 11:17)23and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. (Gn 15:6; 2 Cr 20:7; Is 41:8; Rm 4:3; Gl 3:6)24You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.25And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? (Js 2:1; Js 6:23; Hb 11:31)26For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
