1Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (Sl 100:5; Sl 105:1)2Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble[1] (Sl 106:10; Is 62:12; Is 63:4)3and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. (Dt 30:3; Sl 106:47; Is 11:12; Is 43:5; Is 56:8; Jr 29:14; Jr 31:8; Jr 31:10; Ez 20:34; Ez 20:41; Ez 39:27)4Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; (Dt 32:10; Sl 107:36; Sl 107:40)5hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. (Sl 77:3)6Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Sl 106:44; Sl 107:13; Sl 107:19; Sl 107:28)7He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. (Ed 8:21; Sl 107:4)8Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Sl 107:15; Sl 107:21; Sl 107:31)9For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. (Sl 34:10; Sl 146:7; Lc 1:53)10Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, (Jó 10:21; Jó 36:8; Sl 107:14; Is 42:7; Is 49:9; Mq 7:8; Lc 1:79)11for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. (Dt 31:20; Sl 78:40; Sl 106:7; Sl 106:33; Sl 106:43; Pv 1:30; Pv 5:12; Pv 15:5; Lc 7:30)12So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. (Sl 22:11)13Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Sl 107:6; Sl 107:19; Sl 107:28)14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. (Sl 2:3; Sl 107:10)15Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Sl 107:8; Sl 107:21; Sl 107:31)16For he shatters the doors of bronze and cuts in two the bars of iron. (Is 45:2)17Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; (Pv 1:7; Pv 14:9)18they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. (Jó 33:20; Jó 33:22; Jó 38:17; Sl 88:3)19Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Sl 107:6; Sl 107:13; Sl 107:28)20He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. (2 Rs 20:5; Jó 33:29; Sl 30:2; Sl 103:4; Sl 147:15; Sl 147:18; Mt 8:8)21Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Sl 107:8; Sl 107:15; Sl 107:31)22And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy! (Sl 9:11; Sl 50:14; Sl 105:43; Sl 118:17)23Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; (Is 42:10)24they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep.25For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. (Sl 105:31; Sl 105:34; Sl 148:8; Jn 1:4)26They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight; (Sl 22:14; Sl 119:28)27they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits’ end.[2] (Jó 12:25; Is 19:3; Is 24:20; Is 29:9)28Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. (Sl 107:6; Sl 107:13; Sl 107:19)29He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. (Sl 65:7)30Then they were glad that the waters[3] were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.31Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! (Sl 107:8; Sl 107:15; Sl 107:21)32Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. (Sl 22:22; Sl 22:25; Sl 99:5)33He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, (Is 42:15; Is 50:2)34a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants. (Gn 13:10; Gn 14:3; Gn 19:24; Dt 29:23)35He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water. (Jó 38:26; Sl 114:8; Is 35:6; Is 41:18; Is 43:19)36And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; (Sl 107:4; Sl 107:7)37they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield.38By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish. (Gn 12:2; Gn 17:20; Ex 1:7)39When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow,40he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; (Dt 32:10; Jó 12:21; Jó 12:24)41but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks. (1 Sm 2:8; Jó 21:11; Sl 113:7)42The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth. (Jó 22:19; Sl 63:11)43Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord. (Sl 64:9; Jr 9:12; Os 14:9)
