1No ano em que o general enviado por Sargom, rei da Assíria, atacou Asdode e a conquistou,2nessa mesma ocasião o SENHOR falou por meio de Isaías, filho de Amoz, e disse: “Tire o pano de saco do corpo e as sandálias dos pés”. Ele obedeceu e passou a andar nu e descalço.3Disse então o SENHOR: “Assim como o meu servo Isaías andou nu e descalço durante três anos, como sinal e advertência contra o Egito e contra a Etiópia[1],4assim também o rei da Assíria, para vergonha do Egito, levará nus e descalços os prisioneiros egípcios e os exilados etíopes, jovens e velhos, com as nádegas descobertas.5Os que confiavam na Etiópia e se vangloriavam no Egito terão medo e ficarão decepcionados.6Naquele dia, o povo que vive deste lado do mar dirá: ‘Vejam o que aconteceu com aqueles em quem confiávamos, a quem recorremos para nos ajudar e nos livrar do rei da Assíria! E agora? Como escaparemos?’ ”
1In the year that the commander in chief, who was sent by Sargon the king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and fought against it and captured it— (1 Sm 5:1; 2 Rs 18:17)2at that time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and loose the sackcloth from your waist and take off your sandals from your feet,” and he did so, walking naked and barefoot. (Is 19:4)5Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed because of Cush their hope and of Egypt their boast. (Is 30:3; Is 30:5; Is 37:9)6And the inhabitants of this coastland will say in that day, ‘Behold, this is what has happened to those in whom we hoped and to whom we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria!
