1No quiero que desconozcáis, hermanos, que nuestros antepasados estuvieron todos bajo la nube y que todos atravesaron el mar.2Todos ellos fueron bautizados en la nube y en el mar para unirse a Moisés.3Todos también comieron el mismo alimento espiritual4y tomaron la misma bebida espiritual, pues bebían de la roca espiritual que los acompañaba, y la roca era Cristo.5Sin embargo, la mayoría de ellos no agradaron a Dios, y sus cuerpos quedaron tendidos en el desierto.6Todo eso sucedió para servirnos de ejemplo,[1] a fin de que no nos apasionemos por lo malo, como lo hicieron ellos.7No seáis idólatras, como lo fueron algunos de ellos, según está escrito: «Se sentó el pueblo a comer y a beber, y se entregó al desenfreno». (Ex 32:6)8No cometamos inmoralidad sexual, como algunos lo hicieron, por lo que en un solo día perecieron veintitrés mil.9Tampoco pongamos a prueba al Señor, como lo hicieron algunos y murieron víctimas de las serpientes.10Ni murmuréis contra Dios, como lo hicieron algunos y sucumbieron a manos del ángel destructor.11Todo eso les sucedió para servir de ejemplo, y quedó escrito para advertencia nuestra, pues a nosotros nos ha llegado el fin de los tiempos.12Por lo tanto, si alguien piensa que está firme, tenga cuidado de no caer.13Vosotros no habéis sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano. Pero Dios es fiel, y no permitirá que vosotros seáis tentados más allá de lo que podáis aguantar. Más bien, cuando llegue la tentación, él os dará también una salida a fin de que podáis resistir.
Las fiestas idólatras y la Cena del Señor
14Por tanto, mis queridos hermanos, huid de la idolatría.15Me dirijo a personas sensatas; juzgad vosotros mismos lo que digo.16Esa copa de bendición por la cual damos gracias,[2] ¿no significa que entramos en comunión con la sangre de Cristo? Ese pan que partimos, ¿no significa que entramos en comunión con el cuerpo de Cristo?17Hay un solo pan del cual todos participamos; por eso, aunque somos muchos, formamos un solo cuerpo.18Considerad al pueblo de Israel como tal:[3] ¿No entran en comunión con el altar los que comen de lo sacrificado?19¿Qué quiero decir con esta comparación? ¿Que el sacrificio que los gentiles ofrecen a los ídolos sea algo, o que el ídolo mismo sea algo?20No, sino que, cuando ellos ofrecen sacrificios, lo hacen para los demonios, no para Dios, y no quiero que vosotros entréis en comunión con los demonios.21No podéis beber de la copa del Señor y también de la copa de los demonios; no podéis participar de la mesa del Señor y también de la mesa de los demonios.22¿O vamos a provocar a celos al Señor? ¿Somos acaso más fuertes que él?
La libertad del creyente
23«Todo está permitido», pero no todo es provechoso. «Todo está permitido», pero no todo es constructivo.24Que nadie busque sus propios intereses, sino los del prójimo.25Comed de todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia,26porque«del Señor es la tierra y todo cuanto hay en ella». (Sal 24:1)27Si algún incrédulo os invita a comer, y vosotros aceptáis la invitación, comed de todo lo que os sirvan sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia.28Ahora bien, si alguien os dice: «Esto ha sido ofrecido en sacrificio a los ídolos», entonces no lo comáis, por consideración al que se lo mencionó, y por motivos de conciencia.[4]29Me refiero a la conciencia del otro, no a la vuestra. ¿Por qué se ha de juzgar mi libertad de acuerdo con la conciencia ajena?30Si con gratitud participo de la comida, ¿me van a condenar por comer algo por lo cual doy gracias a Dios?31En conclusión, ya sea que comáis o bebáis o hagáis cualquier otra cosa, hacedlo todo para la gloria de Dios.32No hagáis tropezar a nadie, ni a judíos, ni a gentiles ni a la iglesia de Dios.33Haced como yo, que procuro agradar a todos en todo. No busco mis propios intereses, sino los de los demás, para que sean salvos.

(Nm 11:4; Nm 11:33; Sal 78:18; Sal 106:14)7Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” (Ex 32:4; Ex 32:6; 1 Co 10:14)8We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. (Nm 25:1; Nm 25:9; Sal 106:29; Hch 15:20; 1 Co 6:18)9We must not put Christ[3] to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, (Ex 17:2; Ex 17:7; Nm 21:5; Nm 21:6; Sal 78:18)10nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. (Ex 12:23; Nm 14:2; Nm 14:29; 2 S 24:16; 1 Cr 21:15; Sal 78:49)11Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. (Ro 4:23; Ro 13:11)12Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. (Ro 11:20; 2 P 3:17)13No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (Dn 3:17; 1 Co 1:9; 2 P 2:9)14Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. (1 Co 10:7)15I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. (1 Co 8:1)16The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? (Mt 26:26; Mt 26:27; Hch 2:42; Hch 20:7; 1 Co 11:23; 1 Co 11:25)17Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. (Ro 12:5; 1 Co 12:12; 1 Co 12:20; Ef 4:4; Ef 4:16; Col 3:15)18Consider the people of Israel:[4] are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? (Lv 3:3; Lv 7:15; Ro 1:3; Ro 4:1; Ro 9:5; 2 Co 11:18; Heb 13:10)19What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? (1 Co 8:4)20No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. (Dt 32:17)21You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. (Dt 32:38; Is 65:11; 2 Co 6:15)22Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? (Dt 32:21; Ec 6:10; Ez 22:14)
Do All to the Glory of God
23“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. (1 Co 6:12; 1 Co 8:9)24Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. (Ro 15:1; 1 Co 9:23; 1 Co 10:33; 1 Co 13:5; 2 Co 12:14; Flp 2:21)25Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. (1 Co 8:7)26For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” (Ex 9:29; Ex 19:5; Dt 10:14; Job 41:11; Sal 24:1; Sal 50:12)27If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. (Lc 10:8)28But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience—29I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience? (Ro 14:16; 1 Co 8:9; 1 Co 9:19)30If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks? (Ro 14:6; 1 Ti 4:3)31So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (Col 3:17; 1 P 4:11)32Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, (Hch 20:28; Ro 14:13; 1 Co 8:13; 1 Co 11:16; 2 Co 6:3)33just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. (1 Co 9:22; 1 Co 10:24; Gl 1:10)
