1Por lo demás, hermanos, les pedimos encarecidamente en el nombre del Señor Jesús que sigan progresando en el modo de vivir que agrada a Dios, tal como lo aprendieron de nosotros. De hecho, ya lo están practicando.2Ustedes saben cuáles son las instrucciones que les dimos de parte del Señor Jesús.3La voluntad de Dios es que sean santificados; que se aparten de la inmoralidad sexual;4que cada uno aprenda a controlar su propio cuerpo[1] de una manera santa y honrosa,5sin dejarse llevar por los malos deseos como hacen los paganos, que no conocen a Dios;6y que nadie perjudique a su hermano ni se aproveche de él en este asunto. El Señor castiga todo esto, como ya les hemos dicho y advertido.7Dios no nos llamó a la impureza sino a la santidad;8por tanto, el que rechaza estas instrucciones no rechaza a un hombre sino a Dios, quien les da a ustedes su Espíritu Santo.9En cuanto al amor fraternal, no necesitan que les escribamos, porque Dios mismo les ha enseñado a amarse unos a otros.10En efecto, ustedes aman a todos los hermanos que viven en Macedonia. No obstante, hermanos, les animamos a amarse aún más,11a procurar vivir en paz con todos, a ocuparse de sus propias responsabilidades y a trabajar con sus propias manos. Así les he mandado,12para que por su modo de vivir se ganen el respeto de los que no son creyentes, y no tengan que depender de nadie.
La venida del Señor
13Hermanos, no queremos que ignoren lo que va a pasar con los que ya han muerto,[2] para que no se entristezcan como esos otros que no tienen esperanza.14¿Acaso no creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó? Así también Dios resucitará con Jesús a los que han muerto en unión con él.15Conforme a lo dicho por el Señor, afirmamos que nosotros, los que estemos vivos y hayamos quedado hasta la venida del Señor, de ninguna manera nos adelantaremos a los que hayan muerto.16El Señor mismo descenderá del cielo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel y con trompeta de Dios, y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán primero.17Luego los que estemos vivos, los que hayamos quedado, seremos arrebatados junto con ellos en las nubes para encontrarnos con el Señor en el aire. Y así estaremos con el Señor para siempre.18Por lo tanto, anímense unos a otros con estas palabras.
1Finally, then, brothers,[1] we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. (1 Co 11:2)3For this is the will of God, your sanctification:[2] that you abstain from sexual immorality; (Ro 6:19; Ro 6:22; 1 Co 1:30; 1 Co 6:18; 2 Ts 2:13; 1 Ti 2:15; Heb 12:14; 1 P 1:2)4that each one of you know how to control his own body[3] in holiness and honor, (Ro 1:24; 2 Co 4:7; 1 P 3:7)5not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; (Sal 79:6; Jer 9:3; Jer 10:25; Ro 1:26; Gl 4:8; Ef 4:17)6that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. (Ro 12:19; Ro 13:4; 1 Co 6:8; Heb 13:4)7For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. (1 Ts 2:3; 1 Ts 4:3; 1 P 1:15)8Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. (Lc 10:16; 1 Ts 2:13; 1 Jn 3:24; 1 Jn 4:13)9Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, (Jn 6:45; Jn 13:34; 1 Ts 5:1; Heb 13:1; 1 Jn 2:27)10for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, (1 Ts 1:7; 1 Ts 3:12)11and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, (Pr 17:14; Pr 20:3; Pr 25:8; Hch 18:3; Ef 4:28; 2 Ts 3:11; 2 Ts 3:12; 1 P 4:15)12so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one. The Coming of the Lord
13But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. (Lv 19:28; Dt 14:1; 2 S 12:20; Mr 5:39; Ef 2:12)14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. (1 Co 15:13; 1 Co 15:18; 2 Co 4:14; Ap 1:18)15For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord,[4] that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. (1 R 13:17; 1 Co 15:51; 1 Ts 2:19)16For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. (Jl 2:11; Mt 16:27; Mt 24:31; 1 Co 15:23; 1 Co 15:52; 2 Ts 1:7; 2 Ts 2:1; Jud 1:9; Ap 14:13)17Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. (Dn 7:13; Jn 12:26; Hch 1:9; 2 Co 12:2; Ap 11:12)18Therefore encourage one another with these words.
