1Așa vorbește DOMNUL: „Du‑te și cumpără de la un olar un vas de lut, iar apoi ia cu tine pe câțiva din bătrânii[1] poporului și din bătrânii preoților (Deut 19:12; Deut 21:1; Deut 21:18; Deut 22:13; Deut 25:5; Ios 8:10; 2 Sam 3:17; 2 Sam 5:3; 2 Sam 17:4; 1 Re 20:7; Ier 26:17)2și du‑te în valea Ben‑Hinom, care este la intrarea Porții Ciobului. Să vestești acolo cuvintele pe care ți le spun.3Să spui astfel: «Ascultați Cuvântul DOMNULUI, regi ai lui Iuda și locuitori ai Ierusalimului! Așa vorbește DOMNUL Oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Iată, voi aduce peste locul acesta o nenorocire care va răsuna în urechile oricui o va auzi.’»4Căci M‑au părăsit, au înstrăinat locul acesta, au adus în el jertfe altor dumnezei, pe care nu‑i cunoșteau nici ei, nici părinții lor și nici regii lui Iuda și au umplut locul acesta cu sânge nevinovat.5Au zidit înălțimi lui BAAL, ca să‑și ardă copiii în foc ca arderi‑de‑tot pentru BAAL, lucru pe care nu l‑am poruncit, nici nu l‑am menționat și care nici nu Mi‑a trecut prin minte.6De aceea, iată vin zile, zice DOMNUL, când locul acesta nu se va mai numi Tofet, nici valea Ben‑Hinom, ci se va numi Valea Măcelului.7În locul acesta voi distruge[2] planurile lui Iuda și ale Ierusalimului. Îi voi face să cadă loviți de sabie înaintea dușmanilor lor, uciși de mâna celor ce caută să le ia viața. Cadavrele lor le voi da ca hrană păsărilor cerului și fiarelor pământului.8Voi face din cetatea aceasta o pricină de groază și de fluierat. Toți cei ce vor trece pe lângă ea se vor îngrozi și vor fluiera din cauza tuturor rănilor ei.9Îi voi face să mănânce carnea fiilor lor și carnea fiicelor lor. Își vor mânca unii altora carnea în timpul asediului și al strâmtorării impuse asupra lor de dușmanii care caută să le ia viața.10Să spargi apoi vasul înaintea ochilor oamenilor care vor merge cu tine11și să le spui că așa vorbește DOMNUL Oștirilor: «Voi zdrobi poporul acesta și cetatea aceasta, întocmai cum se sparge vasul unui olar și nu mai poate fi refăcut! Vor fi îngropați în Tofet, din lipsă de loc pentru îngropare.12Așa voi face locului acestuia, zice DOMNUL, precum și celor ce locuiesc aici. Voi face cetății acesteia ca și Tofetului.13Casele Ierusalimului și casele regilor lui Iuda vor deveni necurate ca acest loc, Tofet, și anume toate casele pe acoperișul cărora se ardea tămâie întregii oștiri a cerurilor și se turnau jertfe de băutură altor dumnezei.»“14Ieremia s‑a întors din Tofet, unde‑l trimisese DOMNUL să profețească. Apoi a stat în curtea Casei DOMNULUI și a zis întregului popor:15„Așa vorbește DOMNUL Oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Iată, voi aduce peste cetatea aceasta și peste toate cetățile din jurul ei toate nenorocirile pe care le‑am vestit împotriva lor, pentru că și‑au înțepenit ceafa, ca să nu asculte cuvintele Mele!»“
1Thus says the Lord, “Go, buy a potter’s earthenware flask, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests, (2 Re 19:2; 2 Re 23:1; Ier 18:2; Ier 19:10; Ez 8:1)2and go out to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you. (Ios 15:8)3You shall say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. (1 Sam 3:11; 2 Re 21:12; Ier 13:13; Ier 17:20)4Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents, (2 Re 21:16; Ier 1:16; Ier 2:34)5and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind— (Lev 18:21; Deut 17:3; Ier 7:31; Ier 32:35)6therefore, behold, days are coming, declares the Lord, when this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. (Ier 7:32; Ier 19:2)7And in this place I will make void the plans of Judah and Jerusalem, and will cause their people to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies for food to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth. (Lev 26:17; Is 19:3; Ier 7:33)8And I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its wounds. (Ier 18:16)9And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters, and everyone shall eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them.’ (Lev 26:29; Deut 28:53; Deut 28:55; Deut 28:57; Is 9:20; Pl 2:20; Pl 4:10; Ez 5:10)10“Then you shall break the flask in the sight of the men who go with you, (Ier 19:1; Ier 51:63)11and shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: So will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter’s vessel, so that it can never be mended. Men shall bury in Topheth because there will be no place else to bury. (Ps 2:9; Prov 6:15; Is 30:14; Ier 7:32; Pl 4:2)12Thus will I do to this place, declares the Lord, and to its inhabitants, making this city like Topheth. (2 Re 23:10)13The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah—all the houses on whose roofs offerings have been offered to all the host of heaven, and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods—shall be defiled like the place of Topheth.’” (Deut 4:19; 2 Sam 11:2; 2 Re 23:12; Ier 7:18; Ier 19:12; Ier 32:29; Ier 44:18; Tef 1:5; Fapte 7:42)14Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house and said to all the people: (2 Cro 20:5; Ier 19:2; Ier 26:2)15“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, behold, I am bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their neck, refusing to hear my words.” (2 Cro 30:8; Ier 7:26; Ier 25:3)
