1După toate acestea, Cuvântul DOMNULUI i‑a vorbit lui Avram într‑o viziune, zicând: – Avram, nu te teme! Eu sunt scutul tău, răsplata ta cea foarte mare.2Avram a zis: – Stăpâne DOAMNE, ce‑mi vei da? Căci mor[1] fără copii, iar moștenitorul[2] casei mele este Eliezer din Damasc!3Avram a zis: – Iată că nu mi‑ai dat sămânță, iar moștenitorul meu este unul din casa mea.4Dar iată, Cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit la el, zicând: – Nu acesta va fi moștenitorul tău, ci unul care se va naște din tine, el îți va fi moștenitor.5Apoi l‑a dus afară și i‑a zis: – Uită‑te la ceruri și numără stelele, dacă poți! El i‑a zis: – Așa va fi sămânța ta!6Avram a crezut în DOMNUL, și El i‑a considerat aceasta dreptate.7Domnul i‑a zis: – Eu sunt DOMNUL Care te‑am adus din Urul caldeilor, ca să‑ți dau țara aceasta s‑o stăpânești.8Avram L‑a întrebat: – Stăpâne DOAMNE, cum voi ști că o voi stăpâni?9El i‑a răspuns: – Ia pentru Mine o juncană de trei ani, o capră de trei ani, un berbec de trei ani, o turturea și un pui de porumbel.10A luat pentru El toate acestea, le‑a despicat în două și a așezat fiecare bucată una în fața celeilalte; însă păsările nu le‑a despicat.11Când păsările de pradă au coborât peste stârvuri, Avram le‑a alungat.12În timp ce apunea soarele, pe Avram l‑a cuprins un somn adânc. Și iată că au venit peste el o groază și un mare întuneric.13Atunci El i‑a zis lui Avram: „Să știi bine că sămânța ta va fi străină într‑o țară care nu este a ei. Ei vor fi înrobiți și asupriți timp de patru sute de ani[3]. (Ex 12:40)14Dar pe neamul căruia îi vor sluji ei, îl voi judeca Eu, iar după aceea vor ieși de acolo cu mari bogății.15Tu însă vei ajunge la părinții tăi în pace; vei fi îngropat după o bătrânețe fericită.16Urmașii tăi se vor întoarce aici în a patra generație[4], pentru că nelegiuirea amoriților nu este încă deplină.“17După ce a apus soarele și s‑a făcut întuneric beznă, iată că un fum ca de cuptor și o torță aprinsă au trecut printre acele părți de animale.18În ziua aceea, DOMNUL a încheiat un legământ cu Avram, zicând: „Seminței tale[5] îi dau această țară, de la Râul Egiptului[6] până la Râul cel Mare, râul Eufrat, (Gen 12:7)19și anume pe cheniți, pe cheniziți, pe cadmoniți,20pe hitiți, pe periziți, pe refaiți,21pe amoriți, pe canaaniți, pe ghirgașiți și pe iebusiți.“
1After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” (Gen 26:24; Ps 3:3; Ps 18:2; Ps 84:11; Ps 119:114; Dan 10:12; Lu 1:13; Lu 1:30)2But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue[1] childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”3And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” (Gen 14:14)4And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son[2] shall be your heir.” (Gen 17:16)5And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Gen 22:17; Gen 26:4; Ex 32:13; Deut 1:10; Deut 10:22; 1 Cro 27:23; Ps 147:4; Ro 4:18; Ev 11:12)6And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. (Ps 106:31; Ro 4:3; Ro 4:9; Ro 4:22; Gal 3:6; Iac 2:23)7And he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.” (Gen 11:31; Gen 12:1; Ne 9:7; Ps 105:42; Ps 105:44; Fapte 7:2)8But he said, “O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?” (Jud 6:17; 2 Re 20:8; Ps 86:17; Is 7:11; Lu 1:18)9He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”10And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half. (Lev 1:17; Ier 34:18)11And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.12As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. (Gen 2:21)13Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. (Ex 1:11; Ex 3:7; Ex 12:40; Fapte 7:6; Gal 3:17)14But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. (Ex 6:6; Ex 12:36; Ps 105:37)15As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. (Gen 25:8)16And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” (1 Re 21:26; Dan 8:23; Amos 2:9; Mat 23:32; 1 Tes 2:16)17When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.18On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give[3] this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, (Gen 12:7; Gen 13:15; Gen 24:7; Gen 26:4; Ex 23:31; Num 34:2; Deut 1:7; Deut 34:4; Ios 1:4; Ne 9:8)19the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.”
