1Așadar, eu, cel întemnițat pentru Domnul, vă îndemn să umblați într‑un mod vrednic de chemarea la care ați fost chemați:2cu toată smerenia și blândețea, cu îndelungă răbdare, îngăduindu‑vă unii pe alții în dragoste3și străduindu‑vă să păstrați unitatea Duhului în legătura păcii.4Este un singur trup și un singur Duh, așa cum și voi ați fost chemați la o singură[1] speranță a chemării voastre,5un singur Domn, o singură credință, un singur botez,6un singur Dumnezeu și Tată al tuturor, Care este deasupra tuturor, prin toți și în toți.7Dar fiecăruia dintre noi ne‑a fost dat harul după măsura darului lui Cristos.8De aceea spune: „Când S‑a suit în înălțime, a luat captivă captivitatea. A dat daruri oamenilor.“[2] (Ps 68:18)9Și ce înseamnă acest „S‑a suit“, dacă nu tocmai faptul că înainte Se coborâse în părțile mai de jos ale pământului?10El, Cel Care S‑a coborât, este Același cu Cel Care S‑a suit deasupra tuturor cerurilor, ca să umple toate lucrurile.11Și El i‑a dat pe unii apostoli, pe alții profeți, pe alții evangheliști, pe alții păstori și învățători,12pentru echiparea[3] sfinților în scopul lucrării de slujire, pentru zidirea trupului lui Cristos,13până când vom ajunge toți la unitatea credinței și a cunoașterii Fiului lui Dumnezeu, la omul matur[4], la măsura staturii[5] plinătății lui Cristos,14ca să nu mai fim copii, duși de valuri încoace și încolo și purtați de orice vânt de învățătură prin șiretenia oamenilor, prin viclenia lor în ce privește uneltirea înșelăciunii,15ci, spunând adevărul în dragoste, să creștem în toate privințele în El, Care este Capul, Cristos.16Din El, tot trupul, bine închegat și strâns legat prin ajutorul fiecărei încheieturi, își primește creșterea potrivit cu măsura lucrării fiecărei părți, și astfel se zidește pe sine în dragoste.
Îmbrăcați cu omul cel nou
17Așadar, vă spun aceasta și mărturisesc în Domnul: să nu mai umblați așa cum umblă neamurile, în deșertăciunea gândirii lor,18fiind întunecați la minte, înstrăinați de viața lui Dumnezeu prin ignoranța care este în ei din cauza împietririi inimii lor.19Ajungând fără simțire, s‑au dat pe ei înșiși depravării, pentru a practica cu lăcomie orice fel de necurăție.20Dar voi n‑ați învățat astfel despre Cristos,21dacă într-adevăr L‑ați auzit și ați fost învățați în El, după cum adevărul este în Isus,22cu privire la felul vostru de viață[6] de altădată, să vă dezbrăcați de omul cel vechi, care se strică potrivit cu poftele înșelăciunii,23să vă înnoiți în duhul minții voastre24și să vă îmbrăcați cu omul cel nou, care a fost creat după chipul lui Dumnezeu, în dreptatea și sfințenia care vin din adevăr.25Așadar, lăsându‑vă de minciună, „fiecare să spună semenului său adevărul“[7], pentru că ne suntem mădulare unii altora. (Zah 8:16)26„Mâniați‑vă, dar nu păcătuiți!“[8] Să nu apună soarele peste mânia voastră, (Ps 4:4)27nici să nu dați vreun prilej diavolului[9]!28Cel ce a furat, să nu mai fure, ci mai degrabă să se ostenească, lucrând cu mâinile lui la ceva bun, ca să aibă ce să împartă cu cel ce are nevoie.29Să nu vă iasă din gură niciun cuvânt stricat, ci unul bun, pentru zidire, după cum este nevoie, ca să dea har celor ce‑l aud.30Să nu‑L întristați pe Duhul Sfânt al lui Dumnezeu, prin Care ați fost pecetluiți pentru ziua răscumpărării!31Orice amărăciune, furie, mânie, țipăt și blasfemie să piară dintre voi împreună cu orice răutate!32Dimpotrivă, fiți buni unii cu alții, plini de compasiune, iertându‑vă unii pe alții, așa cum v‑a iertat și Dumnezeu pe voi, în Cristos.
1I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, (Ro 8:28; Ef 3:1; Filip 1:27; Col 1:10; Col 2:6; 1 Tes 2:12)2with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, (Fapte 20:19; Gal 5:23; Filip 2:3; Col 1:11; Col 2:18; Col 2:23; Col 3:12; Col 3:13; 1 Pe 3:8; 1 Pe 5:5)3eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Fapte 8:23; Col 3:14)4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— (Ef 1:18; Ef 2:16; Ef 2:18)5one Lord, one faith, one baptism, (Zah 14:9; 1 Cor 1:13; 1 Cor 8:6; Gal 3:27; Ef 4:13; Iuda 1:3)6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ro 9:5; 1 Cor 12:5)7But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. (Mat 25:15; Ro 12:3; 1 Cor 12:7; Ef 3:2; Ef 4:16)8Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”[1] (Jud 5:12; Ps 68:18; Col 2:15)9(In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?[2] (Ps 63:9; Is 44:23; Ioan 3:13)10He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) (Mar 16:19; Ef 1:23; Ev 4:14; Ev 7:26; Ev 9:24)11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds[3] and teachers,[4] (Ier 3:15; Fapte 20:28; Fapte 21:8; 1 Cor 12:5; 1 Cor 12:28; 2 Tim 4:5)12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (1 Cor 12:27; 2 Cor 13:9; Ef 4:16; Ef 4:29)13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,[5] to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, (Ef 1:23; Ef 4:5; Ev 5:14)14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (Mat 11:7; Ef 6:11; Ev 13:9; Iac 1:6; Iuda 1:12)15Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, (Ef 1:22; Ef 2:21; Ef 4:25; 1 Ioan 3:18)16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. (Ef 4:7; Col 2:19)
The New Life
17Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. (Ro 1:21; Ef 2:1; Ef 4:22; Col 2:18; Col 3:7; 1 Tes 2:12; 1 Pe 1:18; 1 Pe 4:3; 2 Pe 2:18)18They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. (Mar 3:5; Ro 11:10; Ef 2:12)19They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. (1 Re 21:25; Prov 23:35; Ro 1:24; Ro 1:26; Ro 1:28; 1 Tim 4:2)20But that is not the way you learned Christ!— (Mat 11:29)21assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, (Ef 1:13; Col 2:7)22to put off your old self,[6] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, (Ro 6:6; Col 3:8; Col 3:9; Ev 3:13; Ev 12:1; Iac 1:21; 1 Pe 2:1)23and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, (Ro 12:2)24and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ro 6:4; Ef 2:10)25Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. (Zah 8:16; Ro 12:5; Ef 4:15; Col 3:9)26Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, (Ps 37:8)27and give no opportunity to the devil. (Iac 4:7)28Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. (Prov 21:26; Fapte 20:35; Gal 6:10; 1 Tes 4:11; 2 Tes 3:8; 2 Tes 3:11)29Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ecl 10:12; Mat 12:34; Ef 5:4; Col 3:8; Col 4:6)30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (Is 63:10; Ef 1:7; Ef 1:13; 1 Tes 5:19)31Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. (Col 3:8; Col 3:19)32Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Mat 6:14; 2 Cor 2:7; 2 Cor 2:10; Col 3:12; 1 Pe 3:8)
