1 La festa degli Azzimi, detta la Pasqua, si avvicinava; 2 e i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi cercavano il modo di farlo morire, poiché temevano il popolo. 3 Satana entrò in Giuda, chiamato Iscariota, che era nel numero dei dodici. 4 Egli andò a conferire con i capi dei sacerdoti e i capitani[1] sul modo di consegnarlo nelle loro mani. 5 Essi si rallegrarono e pattuirono di dargli del denaro. 6 Egli fu d’accordo e cercava l’occasione buona per consegnare loro Gesù di nascosto alla folla. 7 Venne il giorno degli Azzimi, nel quale si doveva sacrificare la Pasqua. 8 Gesù mandò Pietro e Giovanni, dicendo: «Andate a prepararci la cena pasquale, affinché la mangiamo». 9 Essi gli chiesero: «Dove vuoi che la prepariamo?» 10 Ed egli rispose loro: «Quando sarete entrati in città, vi verrà incontro un uomo che porta una brocca d’acqua; seguitelo nella casa dove egli entrerà. 11 E dite al padrone di casa: “Il Maestro ti manda a dire: ‘Dov’è la stanza nella quale mangerò la Pasqua con i miei discepoli?’”. 12 Ed egli vi mostrerà, al piano di sopra, una grande sala ammobiliata; lì apparecchiate». 13 Essi andarono e trovarono come egli aveva detto loro, e prepararono la Pasqua. 14 Quando giunse l’ora, egli si mise a tavola, e gli apostoli con lui. 15 Egli disse loro: «Ho vivamente desiderato di mangiare questa Pasqua con voi, prima di soffrire; 16 poiché io vi dico che non la mangerò più, finché sia compiuta nel regno di Dio». 17 Poi prese un calice e, dopo aver reso grazie, disse: «Prendete questo e distribuitelo fra di voi; 18 perché io vi dico che da ora in poi non berrò più del frutto della vigna, finché sia venuto il regno di Dio». 19 Poi prese del pane e, dopo aver reso grazie, lo spezzò e lo diede loro dicendo: «Questo è il mio corpo che è dato per voi; fate questo in memoria di me». 20 Allo stesso modo, dopo aver cenato, diede loro il calice dicendo: «Questo calice è il nuovo patto nel mio sangue, che è versato per voi. 21 «Del resto, ecco, la mano di colui che mi tradisce è con me sulla tavola. 22 Perché il Figlio dell’uomo, certo, se ne va, come è stabilito; ma guai a quell’uomo per mezzo del quale egli è tradito!» 23 Ed essi cominciarono a domandarsi gli uni gli altri chi mai, tra di loro, sarebbe stato a fare questo. 24 Fra di loro nacque anche una contesa: chi di essi fosse considerato il più grande. 25 Ma egli disse loro: «I re delle nazioni le signoreggiano, e quelli che le sottomettono al loro dominio sono chiamati benefattori. 26 Ma per voi non deve essere così; anzi, il più grande tra di voi sia come il più piccolo, e chi governa come colui che serve. 27 Perché, chi è più grande: colui che è a tavola oppure colui che serve? Non è forse colui che è a tavola? Ma io sono in mezzo a voi come colui che serve. 28 Or voi siete quelli che avete perseverato con me nelle mie prove; 29 e io dispongo che vi sia dato un regno, come il Padre mio ha disposto che fosse dato a me, 30 affinché mangiate e beviate alla mia tavola nel mio regno, e sediate su troni per giudicare le dodici tribù d’Israele. 31 «Simone, Simone, ecco, Satana ha chiesto di vagliarvi come si vaglia il grano, 32 ma io ho pregato per te, affinché la tua fede non venga meno; e tu, quando sarai convertito, fortifica i tuoi fratelli[2]». 33 Ma lui gli disse: «Signore, sono pronto ad andare con te in prigione e alla morte». 34 E Gesù: «Pietro, io ti dico che oggi il gallo non canterà, prima che tu abbia negato tre volte di conoscermi». 35 Poi disse loro: «Quando vi mandai senza borsa, senza sacca da viaggio e senza calzari, vi è forse mancato qualcosa?» Essi risposero: «Niente». Ed egli disse loro: 36 «Ma ora, chi ha una borsa la prenda, così pure una sacca; e chi non ha spada, venda il mantello e ne compri una. 37 Perché io vi dico che in me deve essere adempiuto ciò che è scritto: “Egli è stato contato tra i malfattori”[3]. Infatti, le cose che si riferiscono a me stanno per compiersi». 38 Ed essi dissero: «Signore, ecco qui due spade!» Ma egli disse loro: «Basta!» 39 Poi, uscito, andò come al solito al monte degli Ulivi; e anche i discepoli lo seguirono. 40 Giunto sul luogo, disse loro: «Pregate di non entrare in tentazione». 41 Egli si staccò da loro circa un tiro di sasso e, postosi in ginocchio, pregava, dicendo: 42 «Padre, se vuoi, allontana da me questo calice! Però non la mia volontà, ma la tua sia fatta». 43 {Allora gli apparve un angelo dal cielo per rafforzarlo. 44 Ed essendo in agonia, egli pregava ancor più intensamente; e il suo sudore diventò come grosse gocce di sangue che cadevano in terra.} 45 E, dopo aver pregato, si alzò, andò dai discepoli e li trovò addormentati per la tristezza, 46 e disse loro: «Perché dormite? Alzatevi e pregate, affinché non entriate in tentazione». 47 Mentre parlava ancora, ecco una folla; e colui che si chiamava Giuda, uno dei dodici, la precedeva e si avvicinò a Gesù per baciarlo. 48 Ma Gesù gli disse: «Giuda, tradisci il Figlio dell’uomo con un bacio?» 49 Quelli che erano con lui, vedendo ciò che stava per succedere, dissero: «Signore, dobbiamo colpire con la spada?» 50 E uno di loro percosse il servo del sommo sacerdote e gli recise l’orecchio destro. 51 Ma Gesù intervenne e disse: «Lasciate, basta!» E, toccato l’orecchio di quell’uomo, lo guarì. 52 Gesù disse ai capi dei sacerdoti, ai capitani del tempio e agli anziani che erano venuti contro di lui: «Siete usciti con spade e bastoni, come contro un brigante! 53 Mentre ero ogni giorno con voi nel tempio, non mi avete mai messo le mani addosso; ma questa è l’ora vostra e la potestà delle tenebre». 54 Dopo averlo arrestato, lo portarono via e lo condussero nella casa del sommo sacerdote; e Pietro seguiva da lontano. 55 Essi accesero un fuoco in mezzo al cortile, sedendovi intorno. Pietro si sedette in mezzo a loro. 56 Una serva, vedendolo seduto presso il fuoco, lo guardò fisso e disse: «Anche costui era con lui». 57 Ma egli negò, dicendo: «Donna, non lo conosco». 58 E poco dopo, un altro lo vide e disse: «Anche tu sei di quelli». Ma Pietro rispose: «No, uomo, non lo sono». 59 Trascorsa circa un’ora, un altro insisteva, dicendo: «Certo, anche questi era con lui, poiché è Galileo». 60 Ma Pietro disse: «Uomo, io non so quello che dici». E subito, mentre parlava ancora, un gallo cantò. 61 E il Signore, voltatosi, guardò Pietro; e Pietro si ricordò della parola che il Signore gli aveva detta: «Oggi, prima che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte». 62 E, andato fuori, pianse amaramente. 63 Gli uomini che tenevano Gesù lo schernivano percuotendolo; 64 poi lo bendarono e gli domandavano: «Indovina! Chi ti ha percosso?» 65 E dicevano molte altre cose contro di lui, bestemmiando. 66 Appena fu giorno, gli anziani del popolo, i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi si riunirono e lo condussero nel loro sinedrio[4], dicendo: 67 «Se tu sei il Cristo, diccelo». Ma egli disse loro: «Anche se ve lo dicessi, non credereste; 68 e se io vi facessi delle domande, non rispondereste. 69 Ma da ora in avanti il Figlio dell’uomo sarà seduto alla destra della potenza di Dio[5]». 70 E tutti dissero: «Sei tu, dunque, il Figlio di Dio?» Ed egli rispose loro: «Voi lo dite[6]; io sono[7]». 71 E quelli dissero: «Che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimonianza? Lo abbiamo udito noi stessi dalla sua bocca».

1 Das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, das man auch Passa nennt, stand unmittelbar bevor. 2 Die Hohen Priester und die Gesetzeslehrer suchten nach einer Gelegenheit, Jesus umbringen zu können. Sie wollten das aber heimlich tun, weil sie das Volk fürchteten. 3 Da fuhr der Satan in Judas, der zu den zwölf Jüngern gehörte und Iskariot genannt wurde. 4 Er ging zu den Hohen Priestern und den Hauptleuten ‹der Tempelwache› und machte ihnen einen Vorschlag, wie er Jesus an sie ausliefern könnte. 5 Sie freuten sich und versprachen ihm eine Geldsumme als Belohnung. 6 Judas war einverstanden und suchte von da an nach einer günstigen Gelegenheit, Jesus an sie auszuliefern, ohne dass das Volk etwas merkte. 7 Es kam nun der erste Tag vom Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, an dem das Passalamm geschlachtet werden musste. 8 Jesus schickte Petrus und Johannes in die Stadt. „Geht und bereitet das Passamahl für uns vor!“, sagte er. 9 „Wo sollen wir das tun?“, fragten sie. 10 „Hört zu! Wenn ihr in die Stadt kommt, werdet ihr einen Mann sehen, der einen Wasserkrug trägt. Folgt ihm in das Haus, in das er hineingeht, 11 und sagt dort zu dem Hausherrn: 'Der Rabbi lässt fragen, wo der Raum ist, in dem er mit seinen Jüngern das Passa feiern kann.' 12 Er wird euch einen großen, mit Polstern ausgelegten Raum im Obergeschoss zeigen. Dort bereitet alles für uns vor!“ 13 Die beiden Jünger machten sich auf den Weg und fanden alles genauso, wie Jesus es ihnen gesagt hatte, und bereiteten das Passa vor. 14 Als es dann so weit war, legte sich Jesus mit den Aposteln zu Tisch 15 und sagte: „Ich habe mich sehr nach diesem Passamahl mit euch gesehnt, bevor ich leiden muss. 16 Denn ich sage euch: Ich werde nicht mehr davon essen, bis es im Reich Gottes seine ganze Erfüllung findet.“ 17 Dann nahm er einen Kelch, sprach das Dankgebet und sagte: „Nehmt ihn und trinkt alle daraus! 18 Denn ich sage euch: Bis zu dem Tag, an dem Gott seine Herrschaft aufrichtet, werde ich keinen Wein mehr trinken.“ 19 Jesus nahm dann ein Fladenbrot und dankte Gott. Er brach es, reichte es den Jüngern und sagte: „Das ist mein Leib, der für euch hingegeben wird. Tut dies als Erinnerung an mich!“ 20 Ebenso nahm er den Kelch nach dem Essen und sagte: „Dieser Kelch ist der neue Bund, der sich gründet auf mein Blut, das für euch vergossen wird. 21 Doch wisst, der Verräter hat seine Hand mit mir auf dem Tisch.[1] (Mat 26,23; Mar 14,20) 22 Der Menschensohn geht zwar den Weg, der ihm bestimmt ist, aber wehe dem Menschen, der ihn ausliefern wird!“ 23 Da fingen die Jünger an, sich gegenseitig zu fragen, wer von ihnen wohl so etwas tun würde. 24 Es kam aber auch zu einem Streit unter den Jüngern, wer von ihnen als Größter gelten könne. 25 Da sagte Jesus: „In der Welt herrschen die Könige über ihre Völker, und die Mächtigen lassen sich Wohltäter nennen. 26 Doch bei euch soll es nicht so sein. Im Gegenteil: Der Größte unter euch soll so wie der Geringste sein, und der Führende so wie der Dienende. 27 Wer ist denn größer: der, der zu Tisch liegt, oder der, der ihn bedient? Natürlich der am Tisch! Aber ich bin unter euch wie der Dienende. 28 Doch ihr seid in allem, was ich durchmachen musste, treu bei mir geblieben. 29 Dafür werde ich euch an der Herrschaft beteiligen, die mir mein Vater übertragen hat. 30 Ihr werdet in meinem Reich an meinem Tisch essen und trinken und auf Thronen sitzen, um die zwölf Stämme Israels zu richten.“ 31 Dann sagte der Herr: „Simon, Simon, der Satan hat euch haben wollen, um euch durchsieben zu können wie den Weizen. 32 Doch ich habe für dich gebetet, dass du deinen Glauben nicht verlierst. Wenn du also später umgekehrt und zurechtgekommen bist, stärke den Glauben deiner Brüder!“ 33 „Herr“, sagte Petrus, „ich bin bereit, mit dir ins Gefängnis und sogar in den Tod zu gehen.“ 34 Doch Jesus erwiderte: „Ich sage dir, Petrus: Noch heute Nacht, bevor der Hahn kräht, wirst du dreimal geleugnet haben, mich überhaupt zu kennen.“ 35 Dann fragte Jesus die Jünger: „Als ich euch ohne Geldbeutel, Vorratstasche und Sandalen aussandte, habt ihr da etwas entbehren müssen?“ – „Nein, gar nichts“, antworteten sie. 36 „Aber jetzt“, sagte er, „nehmt Geldbeutel und Vorratstasche mit, wenn ihr sie habt. Und wer nichts davon hat, soll seinen Mantel verkaufen und sich ein Schwert kaufen. 37 Denn das sage ich euch: Auch dieses Schriftwort muss sich noch an mir erfüllen: 'Er wurde unter die Verbrecher gezählt.' Und das trifft jetzt ein.“ (Is 53,12) 38 Die Jünger sagten: „Herr, hier sind zwei Schwerter.“ – „Das genügt“, sagte er. 39 Dann verließ er die Stadt und ging wie gewohnt zum Ölberg. Die Jünger folgten ihm. 40 Als er dort war, sagte er zu seinen Jüngern: „Betet darum, dass ihr nicht in Versuchung geratet.“ 41 Dann zog er sich ungefähr einen Steinwurf weit von den Jüngern zurück. Er kniete sich hin und betete: 42 „Vater, wenn du willst, nimm diesen Kelch von mir weg! Doch nicht mein Wille soll geschehen, sondern der deine.“ 43 Da erschien ihm ein Engel vom Himmel und stärkte ihn. 44 Jesus betete mit solcher Anspannung, dass sein Schweiß wie Blut auf den Erdboden tropfte. 45 Als er vom Gebet aufstand und wieder zu den Jüngern kam, fand er sie vor Kummer eingeschlafen. 46 „Wie könnt ihr nur schlafen?“, sagte er. „Steht auf und betet, damit ihr nicht in Versuchung kommt!“ 47 Kaum hatte er das gesagt, tauchte eine große Schar von Männern auf, an ihrer Spitze Judas, einer der Zwölf. Er ging auf Jesus zu und wollte ihn mit einem Kuss begrüßen. 48 „Judas“, sagte Jesus zu ihm, „mit einem Kuss verrätst du den Menschensohn?“ 49 Als die, die bei Jesus waren, merkten, in welcher Absicht die Männer gekommen waren, fragten sie: „Herr, sollen wir kämpfen? Wir haben die Schwerter dabei.“ 50 Einer von ihnen ging auch gleich auf den Sklaven des Hohen Priesters los und schlug ihm das rechte Ohr ab. 51 Aber Jesus rief: „Hört auf damit!“ Er berührte das Ohr und heilte den Mann. 52 Zu den Hohen Priestern, den Hauptleuten der Tempelwache und den Ältesten, die gegen ihn angerückt waren, sagte er: „Bin ich denn ein Verbrecher, dass ihr mit Schwertern und Knüppeln auszieht, um mich zu verhaften? 53 Ich war doch täglich bei euch im Tempel. Da habt ihr mich nicht festgenommen. Aber das ist eure Stunde und die der Finsternismacht.“ 54 Sie packten Jesus, führten ihn ab und brachten ihn in den Palast des Hohen Priesters. Petrus folgte ihnen mit großem Abstand. 55 In der Mitte des Innenhofs brannte ein Feuer, um das herum sich einige hingesetzt hatten. Petrus setzte sich mitten unter sie. 56 Eine Dienerin bemerkte ihn im Schein des Feuers, blickte ihn scharf an und sagte: „Der da war auch mit ihm zusammen!“ 57 Aber Petrus stritt es ab: „Frau, den Mann kenne ich gar nicht!“ 58 Kurz danach schaute ihn jemand anderes an und sagte: „Du musst auch einer von ihnen sein.“ – „Mensch!“, sagte Petrus. „Das stimmt nicht.“ 59 Etwa eine Stunde später behauptete ein Dritter: „Natürlich war der mit ihm zusammen, er ist ja auch ein Galiläer!“ 60 Aber Petrus wehrte ab: „Ich weiß gar nicht, wovon du redest, Mensch!“ In diesem Augenblick, noch während Petrus redete, krähte der Hahn. 61 Der Herr wandte sich um und blickte Petrus an. Da erinnerte sich Petrus an das, was der Herr zu ihm gesagt hatte: „Bevor der Hahn heute kräht, wirst du mich dreimal verleugnen.“ 62 Und er ging hinaus und fing an, bitterlich zu weinen. 63 Die Männer, die Jesus bewachten, trieben ihren Spott mit ihm und schlugen ihn. 64 Sie verhüllten sein Gesicht und sagten: „Du bist ja ein Prophet. Sag uns doch, wer dich geschlagen hat!“ 65 Viele solcher Schmähungen brachten sie gegen ihn vor. 66 Als es Tag wurde, versammelten sich die Ältesten des Volkes, die Hohen Priester und die Gesetzeslehrer, die zum Hohen Rat gehörten, zu einer Sitzung. Sie ließen Jesus vorführen 67 und forderten ihn auf: „Wenn du der Messias bist, dann sag es uns!“ Jesus erwiderte: „Wenn ich es euch sage, so würdet ihr mir doch nicht glauben, 68 und wenn ich euch frage, antwortet ihr ja nicht. 69 Doch von jetzt an wird der Menschensohn an der rechten Seite des allmächtigen Gottes sitzen.“ 70 Da riefen sie alle: „Dann bist du also der Sohn Gottes?“ – „Ihr sagt es“, erwiderte er, „ICH BIN es.“ 71 Da riefen sie: „Was brauchen wir noch Zeugen? Wir haben es ja selbst aus seinem Mund gehört!“

(Mat 21,46; Giov 11,53) 3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Lu 22,40) 47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, (Mat 26,47; Mar 14,43; Lu 22,3; Giov 18,3) 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” (Lu 22,38) 50 And one of them struck the servant[8] of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? (Lu 22,4) 53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.” (Mar 14,35; Mar 14,41; Lu 2,46; Giov 8,2; Giov 12,27; Giov 16,4; Giov 18,20; At 26,18; Ef 6,12) 54 Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance. (Mat 26,3; Mat 26,69; Mar 14,66; Giov 18,16; Giov 18,25) 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” (At 12,15) 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” (Mar 10,21; Lu 22,34; At 3,13) 62 And he went out and wept bitterly. 63 Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. (Mat 26,67; Mar 14,65; Giov 18,22) 64 They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” (Lu 7,39; Lu 22,63) 65 And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him. (Mat 27,39) 66 When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, (Mat 5,22; Mat 26,63; Mat 27,1; Mar 14,61; Mar 15,1; Lu 22,67; Giov 18,19; Giov 18,28; At 22,5) 67 “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, (Mat 1,17; Giov 10,24) 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” (Mar 16,19; At 7,56; Eb 1,3) 70 So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” (Mat 14,33; Mat 26,25; Mat 27,11; Mar 15,2; Lu 23,3) 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”

1 Se aproximaba la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, llamada la Pascua. 2 Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley buscaban algún modo de acabar con Jesús, porque temían al pueblo. 3 Entonces entró Satanás en Judas, uno de los doce, al que llamaban Iscariote. 4 Éste fue a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a los capitanes del templo para tratar con ellos cómo les entregaría a Jesús. 5 Ellos se alegraron y acordaron darle dinero. 6 Él aceptó, y comenzó a buscar una oportunidad para entregarles a Jesús cuando no hubiera gente. 7 Cuando llegó el día de la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, en que debía sacrificarse el cordero de la Pascua, 8 Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciéndoles: —Vayan a hacer los preparativos para que comamos la Pascua. 9 —¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos? —le preguntaron. 10 —Miren —contestó él—: al entrar ustedes en la ciudad les saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua. Síganlo hasta la casa en que entre, 11 y díganle al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro pregunta: ¿Dónde está la sala en la que voy a comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?” 12 Él les mostrará en la planta alta una sala amplia y amueblada. Preparen allí la cena. 13 Ellos se fueron y encontraron todo tal como les había dicho Jesús. Así que prepararon la Pascua. 14 Cuando llegó la hora, Jesús y sus apóstoles se sentaron a la mesa. 15 Entonces les dijo: —He tenido muchísimos deseos de comer esta Pascua con ustedes antes de padecer, 16 pues les digo que no volveré a comerla hasta que tenga su pleno cumplimiento en el reino de Dios. 17 Luego tomó la copa, dio gracias y dijo: —Tomen esto y repártanlo entre ustedes. 18 Les digo que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios. 19 También tomó pan y, después de dar gracias, lo partió, se lo dio a ellos y dijo: —Este pan es mi cuerpo, entregado por ustedes; hagan esto en memoria de mí. 20 De la misma manera tomó la copa después de la cena, y dijo: —Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que es derramada por ustedes. 21 Pero sepan que la mano del que va a traicionarme está con la mía, sobre la mesa. 22 A la verdad el Hijo del hombre se irá según está decretado, pero ¡ay de aquel que lo traiciona! 23 Entonces comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros quién de ellos haría esto. 24 Tuvieron además un altercado sobre cuál de ellos sería el más importante. 25 Jesús les dijo: —Los reyes de las naciones oprimen a sus súbditos, y los que ejercen autoridad sobre ellos se llaman a sí mismos benefactores. 26 No sea así entre ustedes. Al contrario, el mayor debe comportarse como el menor, y el que manda como el que sirve. 27 Porque, ¿quién es más importante, el que está a la mesa o el que sirve? ¿No lo es el que está sentado a la mesa? Sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como uno que sirve. 28 Ahora bien, ustedes son los que han estado siempre a mi lado en mis pruebas. 29 Por eso, yo mismo les concedo un reino, así como mi Padre me lo concedió a mí, 30 para que coman y beban a mi mesa en mi reino, y se sienten en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel. 31 »Simón, Simón, mira que Satanás ha pedido zarandearlos a ustedes como si fueran trigo. 32 Pero yo he orado por ti, para que no falle tu fe. Y tú, cuando te hayas vuelto a mí, fortalece a tus hermanos. 33 —Señor —respondió Pedro—, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo tanto a la cárcel como a la muerte. 34 —Pedro, te digo que hoy mismo, antes de que cante el gallo, tres veces negarás que me conoces. 35 Luego Jesús dijo a todos: —Cuando los envié a ustedes sin monedero ni bolsa ni sandalias, ¿acaso les faltó algo? —Nada —respondieron. 36 —Ahora, en cambio, el que tenga un monedero, que lo lleve; así mismo, el que tenga una bolsa. Y el que nada tenga, que venda su manto y compre una espada. 37 Porque les digo que tiene que cumplirse en mí aquello que está escrito: “Y fue contado entre los transgresores.”[1] En efecto, lo que se ha escrito de mí se está cumpliendo. 38 —Mira, Señor —le señalaron los discípulos—, aquí hay dos espadas. —¡Basta! —les contestó. 39 Jesús salió de la ciudad y, como de costumbre, se dirigió al monte de los Olivos, y sus discípulos lo siguieron. 40 Cuando llegaron al lugar, les dijo: «Oren para que no caigan en tentación.» 41 Entonces se separó de ellos a una buena distancia,[2] se arrodilló y empezó a orar: 42 «Padre, si quieres, no me hagas beber este trago amargo;[3] pero no se cumpla mi voluntad, sino la tuya.» 43 Entonces se le apareció un ángel del cielo para fortalecerlo. 44 Pero, como estaba angustiado, se puso a orar con más fervor, y su sudor era como gotas de sangre que caían a tierra.[4] 45 Cuando terminó de orar y volvió a los discípulos, los encontró dormidos, agotados por la tristeza. 46 «¿Por qué están durmiendo? —les exhortó—. Levántense y oren para que no caigan en tentación.» 47 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando se apareció una turba, y al frente iba uno de los doce, el que se llamaba Judas. Éste se acercó a Jesús para besarlo, 48 pero Jesús le preguntó: —Judas, ¿con un beso traicionas al Hijo del hombre? 49 Los discípulos que lo rodeaban, al darse cuenta de lo que pasaba, dijeron: —Señor, ¿atacamos con la espada? 50 Y uno de ellos hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, cortándole la oreja derecha. 51 —¡Déjenlos! —ordenó Jesús. Entonces le tocó la oreja al hombre, y lo sanó. 52 Luego dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los capitanes del templo y a los ancianos, que habían venido a prenderlo: —¿Acaso soy un bandido,[5] para que vengan contra mí con espadas y palos? 53 Todos los días estaba con ustedes en el templo, y no se atrevieron a ponerme las manos encima. Pero ya ha llegado la hora de ustedes, cuando reinan las tinieblas. 54 Prendieron entonces a Jesús y lo llevaron a la casa del sumo sacerdote. Pedro los seguía de lejos. 55 Pero luego, cuando encendieron una fogata en medio del patio y se sentaron alrededor, Pedro se les unió. 56 Una criada lo vio allí sentado a la lumbre, lo miró detenidamente y dijo: —Éste estaba con él. 57 Pero él lo negó. —Muchacha, yo no lo conozco. 58 Poco después lo vio otro y afirmó: —Tú también eres uno de ellos. —¡No, hombre, no lo soy! —contestó Pedro. 59 Como una hora más tarde, otro lo acusó: —Seguro que éste estaba con él; miren que es galileo. 60 —¡Hombre, no sé de qué estás hablando! —replicó Pedro. En el mismo momento en que dijo eso, cantó el gallo. 61 El Señor se volvió y miró directamente a Pedro. Entonces Pedro se acordó de lo que el Señor le había dicho: «Hoy mismo, antes de que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.» 62 Y saliendo de allí, lloró amargamente. 63 Los hombres que vigilaban a Jesús comenzaron a burlarse de él y a golpearlo. 64 Le vendaron los ojos, y le increpaban: —¡Adivina quién te pegó! 65 Y le lanzaban muchos otros insultos. 66 Al amanecer, se reunieron los ancianos del pueblo, tanto los jefes de los sacerdotes como los maestros de la ley, e hicieron comparecer a Jesús ante el Consejo. 67 —Si eres el Cristo, dínoslo —le exigieron. Jesús les contestó: —Si se lo dijera a ustedes, no me lo creerían, 68 y si les hiciera preguntas, no me contestarían. 69 Pero de ahora en adelante el Hijo del hombre estará sentado a la derecha del Dios Todopoderoso. 70 —¿Eres tú, entonces, el Hijo de Dios? —le preguntaron a una voz. —Ustedes mismos lo dicen. 71 —¿Para qué necesitamos más testimonios? —resolvieron—. Acabamos de oírlo de sus propios labios.
