1Abramo dunque risalì dall’Egitto con sua moglie, con tutto quel che possedeva e con Lot, andando verso la regione meridionale.2Abramo era molto ricco di bestiame, d’argento e d’oro.3E continuò il suo viaggio dal meridione fino a Betel, al luogo dove da principio era stata la sua tenda, fra Betel e Ai,4al luogo dov’era l’altare che egli aveva fatto prima; e lì Abramo invocò il nome del Signore.5Ora Lot, che viaggiava con Abramo, aveva anch’egli pecore, buoi e tende.6Il paese non era sufficiente perché essi potessero abitarvi insieme, poiché il loro bestiame era numeroso ed essi non potevano stare insieme.7Scoppiò una lite fra i pastori del bestiame di Abramo e i pastori del bestiame di Lot. I Cananei e i Ferezei abitavano a quel tempo nel paese.8Allora Abramo disse a Lot: «Ti prego, non ci sia discordia tra me e te, né tra i miei pastori e i tuoi pastori, perché siamo fratelli!9Tutto il paese non sta forse davanti a te? Ti prego, sepàrati da me! Se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai a destra, io andrò a sinistra».10Lot alzò gli occhi e vide l’intera pianura del Giordano. Prima che il Signore avesse distrutto Sodoma e Gomorra, essa era tutta irrigata fino a Soar, come il giardino del Signore, come il paese d’Egitto.11Lot scelse per sé tutta la pianura del Giordano e partì andando verso oriente. Così si separarono l’uno dall’altro.12Abramo si stabilì nel paese di Canaan, Lot abitò nelle città della pianura e andò piantando le sue tende fino a Sodoma.13Gli abitanti di Sodoma erano perversi e grandi peccatori contro il Signore.
Promesse ad Abramo
14Il Signore disse ad Abramo, dopo che Lot si fu separato da lui: «Alza ora gli occhi e guarda, dal luogo dove sei, a settentrione, a meridione, a oriente, a occidente.15Tutto il paese che vedi lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza, per sempre.16E renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra; in modo che, se qualcuno può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi discendenti.17Àlzati, percorri il paese quant’è lungo e quant’è largo, perché io lo darò a te».18Allora Abramo levò le sue tende e andò ad abitare alle querce di Mamre, che sono a Ebron, e qui costruì un altare al Signore.

Eine Menge Vieh und Silber und Gold gehörten ihm.3Er zog von einem Lagerplatz zum anderen, bis er wieder an die Stelle kam, wo sein Zelt zuerst gestanden hatte, zwischen Bet-El und Ai,4wo er früher den Altar gebaut hatte. Dort rief er den Namen Jahwes an.5Auch Lot, der mit Abram gezogen war, hatte viele Schafe, Ziegen, Rinder und Zelte.6Doch das Weideland reichte nicht für beide aus. Ihr Herdenbesitz war zu groß. So konnten sie unmöglich beisammenbleiben.7Es gab immer Streit zwischen den Hirten von Abrams und Lots Vieh. Damals wohnten ja auch noch die Kanaaniter und Perisiter[1] im Land.8Abram besprach das mit Lot. Er sagte: „Es soll kein Streit zwischen uns sein, auch nicht zwischen unseren Hirten. Wir sind doch Brüder!9Steht dir nicht das ganze Land offen? Trenn dich doch von mir! Willst du nach links, dann gehe ich nach rechts, und willst du nach rechts, dann gehe ich nach links.“10Lot schaute sich um und sah, dass es im Umkreis des Jordan reichlich Wasser gab. Bevor Jahwe nämlich Sodom und Gomorra zerstörte, war diese Gegend bis nach Zoar hin wie der Garten Jahwes und wie Ägypten.11Damals entschied sich Lot für die Gegend im Umkreis des Jordan. So trennten sich beide:12Abram blieb im Land Kanaan, und Lot zog ins Gebiet der Jordanstädte und kam mit seinen Zelten bis nach Sodom.13Doch die Einwohner von Sodom waren sehr böse und sündigten schwer gegen Jahwe.14Nachdem Lot weggezogen war, sagte Jahwe zu Abram: „Blick auf und schau dich nach allen Seiten gründlich um!15Das ganze Land, das du siehst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen für immer geben.16Und deine Nachkommen werde ich zahlreich machen wie den Staub der Erde. Nur wenn jemand die Staubkörner zählen könnte, würden auch deine Nachkommen gezählt werden können.17Mach dich auf, und durchziehe das Land nach allen Richtungen! Denn dir will ich es geben.“18Abram zog mit seinen Zelten weiter und nahm seinen Wohnsitz unter den Terebinthen[2] von Mamre bei Hebron. Dort baute er Jahwe einen Altar.

And there Abram called upon the name of the LORD. (Gen 12,7; Gen 12,8)5And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,6so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, (Gen 36,6; Gen 36,7)7and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land. (Gen 12,6; Gen 26,20)8Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen.[1] (At 7,26; 1Co 6,1)9Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.” (Gen 20,15; Gen 34,10)10And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) (Gen 2,8; Gen 14,2; Gen 14,8; Gen 19,17; Gen 19,22; Gen 19,24; Gen 19,25; Gen 19,28; De 34,3; 1Re 7,46; Is 51,3; Ez 28,13; Gioe 2,3; Mat 3,5)11So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.12Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.13Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD. (Gen 18,20; Ez 16,49; 2P 2,7; 2P 2,8)14The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, (Gen 28,14)15for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. (Gen 12,7; Gen 15,18; Gen 17,8; Gen 24,7; Gen 26,4; Gen 28,13; Gen 35,12; De 34,4; 2Cr 20,7; At 7,5)16I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. (Gen 22,17; Gen 28,14; Gen 32,12; Nu 23,10; 1Re 3,8; 1Re 15,5)17Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.”18So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks[2] of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD. 1Abram salió de Egipto con su esposa, con Lot y con todos sus bienes, en dirección a la región del Néguev.2Abram se había hecho muy rico en ganado, plata y oro.3Desde el Néguev, Abram regresó por etapas hasta Betel, es decir, hasta el lugar donde había acampado al principio, entre Betel y Hai.4En ese lugar había erigido antes un altar, y allí invocó Abram el nombre del Señor.5También Lot, que iba acompañando a Abram, tenía rebaños, ganado y tiendas de campaña.6La región donde estaban no daba abasto para mantener a los dos, porque tenían demasiado como para vivir juntos.7Por eso comenzaron las fricciones entre los pastores de los rebaños de Abram y los que cuidaban los ganados de Lot. Además, los cananeos y los ferezeos también habitaban allí en aquel tiempo.8Así que Abram le dijo a Lot: «No debe haber pleitos entre nosotros, ni entre nuestros pastores, porque somos parientes.9Allí tienes toda la tierra a tu disposición. Por favor, aléjate de mí. Si te vas a la izquierda, yo me iré a la derecha, y si te vas a la derecha, yo me iré a la izquierda.»10Lot levantó la vista y observó que todo el valle del Jordán, hasta Zoar, era tierra de regadío, como el jardín del Señor o como la tierra de Egipto. Así era antes de que el Señor destruyera a Sodoma y a Gomorra.11Entonces Lot escogió para sí todo el valle del Jordán, y partió hacia el oriente. Fue así como Abram y Lot se separaron.12Abram se quedó a vivir en la tierra de Canaán, mientras que Lot se fue a vivir entre las ciudades del valle, estableciendo su campamento cerca de la ciudad de Sodoma.13Los habitantes de Sodoma eran malvados y cometían muy graves pecados contra el Señor.14Después de que Lot se separó de Abram, el Señor le dijo: «Abram, levanta la vista desde el lugar donde estás, y mira hacia el norte y hacia el sur, hacia el este y hacia el oeste.15Yo te daré a ti y a tu descendencia, para siempre, toda la tierra que abarca tu mirada.16Multiplicaré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra. Si alguien puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también podrá contar tus descendientes.17¡Ve y recorre el país a lo largo y a lo ancho, porque a ti te lo daré!»18Entonces Abram levantó su campamento y se fue a vivir cerca de Hebrón, junto al encinar de Mamré. Allí erigió un altar al Señor.
