1Il Signore disse ad Abramo: «Va’ via dal tuo paese, dai tuoi parenti e dalla casa di tuo padre, e va’ nel paese che io ti mostrerò;2io farò di te una grande nazione, ti benedirò e renderò grande il tuo nome e tu sarai fonte di benedizione.3Benedirò quelli che ti benediranno e maledirò chi ti maledirà, e in te saranno benedette tutte le famiglie della terra».4Abramo partì, come il Signore gli aveva detto, e Lot andò con lui. Abramo aveva settantacinque anni quando partì da Caran.5Abramo prese Sarai sua moglie e Lot, figlio di suo fratello, e tutti i beni che possedevano e le persone che avevano acquistate in Caran, e partirono verso il paese di Canaan.6Giunsero così nella terra di Canaan, e Abramo attraversò il paese fino alla località di Sichem, fino alla quercia di More. In quel tempo i Cananei erano nel paese.7Il Signore apparve ad Abramo e disse: «Io darò questo paese alla tua discendenza». Lì Abramo costruì un altare al Signore che gli era apparso.8Di là si spostò verso la montagna a oriente di Betel, e piantò le sue tende, avendo Betel a occidente e Ai a oriente; lì costruì un altare al Signore e invocò il nome del Signore.9Poi Abramo partì, proseguendo da un accampamento all’altro, verso la regione meridionale.
Abramo in Egitto
10Venne una carestia nel paese e Abramo scese in Egitto per soggiornarvi, perché la fame era grande nel paese.11Come stava per entrare in Egitto, disse a Sarai sua moglie: «Ecco, io so che tu sei una donna di bell’aspetto;12quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, diranno: “È sua moglie”. Essi mi uccideranno, ma a te lasceranno la vita.13Di’ dunque che sei mia sorella, perché io sia trattato bene a motivo di te e la vita mi sia conservata per amor tuo».14Quando Abramo giunse in Egitto, gli Egiziani osservarono che la donna era molto bella.15I prìncipi del faraone la videro, ne fecero le lodi in presenza del faraone; e la donna fu condotta in casa del faraone.16Questi fece del bene ad Abramo per amore di lei e Abramo ebbe pecore, buoi, asini, servi, serve, asine e cammelli.17Ma il Signore colpì il faraone e la sua casa con grandi piaghe, a motivo di Sarai, moglie di Abramo.18Allora il faraone chiamò Abramo e disse: «Che cosa mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai detto che era tua moglie? Perché hai detto:19“È mia sorella”? Così io l’ho presa per moglie. Ora eccoti tua moglie, prendila e vattene!»20E il faraone diede alla sua gente ordini relativi ad Abramo, ed essi fecero partire lui, sua moglie e tutto quello che egli possedeva.
1Da sagte Jahwe zu Abram: „Zieh aus deinem Land weg! Verlass deine Sippe und auch die Familie deines Vaters und geh in das Land, das ich dir zeigen werde![1] (At 7,3)2Ich will dich zu einer großen Nation werden lassen; ich werde dich segnen und deinen Namen bekannt machen. Du wirst ein Segen für andere sein.3Ich will segnen, die dich segnen, und verfluchen, die dir fluchen. Alle Völker[2] der Erde werden durch dich gesegnet sein.“[3] (Gen 18,18; Ga 3,8)
Abram in Kanaan
4Abram gehorchte dem Befehl Jahwes und brach auf. Lot zog mit ihm. Abram war 75 Jahre alt, als er Haran verließ.5Seine Frau Sarai und sein Neffe Lot begleiteten ihn. Sie nahmen alle Menschen, die sie in Haran erworben hatten, und ihren ganzen Besitz mit. So zogen sie nach Kanaan.6Abram durchzog das Land bis zu einem Platz bei Sichem[4] in der Nähe des Wahrsagebaums.[5] Damals waren ja noch die Kanaaniter im Land.7Dort ließ sich Jahwe von Abram sehen[6] und sagte zu ihm: „Dieses Land will ich deinen Nachkommen geben!“ Da baute Abram an dieser Stelle einen Altar für Jahwe, der ihm erschienen war. (Gen 15,1)8Später zog er in das Bergland östlich von Bet-El und schlug seine Zelte so auf, dass er Bet-El im Westen und Ai im Osten hatte. Auch dort baute er Jahwe einen Altar und machte so den Namen Jahwes bekannt.[7]9Dann brach er wieder auf und zog immer weiter in den Negev[8] hinein.
Abram und Sarai in Ägypten
10Als eine schwere Hungersnot im Land ausbrach, suchte Abram Zuflucht in Ägypten.11Kurz vor der ägyptischen Grenze sagte er zu seiner Frau Sarai: „Ich weiß, dass du eine sehr schöne Frau bist.12Wenn die Ägypter dich sehen, werden sie sagen: 'Das ist seine Frau!', und sie werden mich totschlagen, um dich zu bekommen.13Sag doch, dass du meine Schwester bist, dann werden sie mich deinetwegen gut behandeln und am Leben lassen!“14Tatsächlich geschah es so, als Abram nach Ägypten kam. Überall fiel seine Frau durch ihre Schönheit auf.15Die Hofleute rühmten sie vor dem Pharao, und der ließ sie in seinen Palast holen.16Ihretwegen überhäufte er Abram mit Geschenken. Er ließ ihm Schafe, Ziegen, Rinder und Esel zukommen, Sklaven und Sklavinnen, Eselstuten und Kamele.17Doch weil der Pharao Abrams Frau zu sich genommen hatte, schlug Jahwe ihn und seine Familie mit schweren Krankheiten.18Da ließ der Pharao Abram zu sich rufen. „Was hast du mir da angetan?“, warf er ihm vor. „Warum hast du mir nicht gesagt, dass sie deine Frau ist?19Du hast sie als deine Schwester ausgegeben, und nur deshalb habe ich sie mir zur Frau genommen! Nun, hier ist deine Frau! Nimm sie und geh!“20Dann gab der Pharao seinen Männern Befehl, Abram und seinen Besitz sicher aus dem Land zu bringen.

(Gen 17,6; Gen 18,18; Ga 3,14)3I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”[3] (Gen 18,18; Gen 22,18; Gen 26,4; Gen 27,29; Gen 28,14; Nu 24,9; Ger 4,2; At 3,25; Ga 3,8; Ga 3,16)4So Abram went, as the LORD had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. (Gen 11,31)5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people that they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,6Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak[4] of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. (Gen 13,7; Gen 13,18; De 11,30; Giudic 7,1; Eb 11,9)7Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. (Gen 13,15; Gen 17,8; Eso 33,1; Nu 32,11; Sal 105,9)8From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of the LORD. (Gen 28,19)9And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Negeb.
Abram and Sarai in Egypt
10Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. (Gen 26,1; Gen 43,1)11When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance,12and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. (Gen 20,1; Gen 26,6)13Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.”14When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.15And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.16And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.17But the LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. (1Cr 16,21; Sal 105,14)18So Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?19Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go.”20And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.

Abram tenía setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Jarán.5Al encaminarse hacia la tierra de Canaán, Abram se llevó a su esposa Saray, a su sobrino Lot, a toda la gente que habían adquirido en Jarán, y todos los bienes que habían acumulado. Cuando llegaron a Canaán,6Abram atravesó toda esa región hasta llegar a Siquén, donde se encuentra la encina sagrada de Moré. En aquella época, los cananeos vivían en esa región.7Allí el Señor se le apareció a Abram y le dijo: «Yo le daré esta tierra a tu descendencia.» Entonces Abram erigió un altar al Señor, porque se le había aparecido.8De allí se dirigió a la región montañosa que está al este de Betel, donde armó su campamento, teniendo a Betel al oeste y Hai al este. También en ese lugar erigió un altar al Señor e invocó su nombre.9Después, Abram siguió su viaje por etapas hasta llegar a la región del Néguev.
Abram en Egipto
10En ese entonces, hubo tanta hambre en aquella región que Abram se fue a vivir a Egipto.11Cuando estaba por entrar a Egipto, le dijo a su esposa Saray: «Yo sé que eres una mujer muy hermosa.12Estoy seguro que en cuanto te vean los egipcios, dirán: “Es su esposa”; entonces a mí me matarán, pero a ti te dejarán con vida.13Por favor, di que eres mi hermana, para que gracias a ti me vaya bien y me dejen con vida.»14Cuando Abram llegó a Egipto, los egipcios vieron que Saray era muy hermosa.15También los funcionarios del faraón la vieron, y fueron a contarle al faraón lo hermosa que era. Entonces la llevaron al palacio real.16Gracias a ella trataron muy bien a Abram. Le dieron ovejas, vacas, esclavos y esclavas, asnos y asnas, y camellos.17Pero por causa de Saray, la esposa de Abram, el Señor castigó al faraón y a su familia con grandes plagas.18Entonces el faraón llamó a Abram y le dijo: «¿Qué me has hecho? ¿Por qué no me dijiste que era tu esposa?19¿Por qué dijiste que era tu hermana? ¡Yo pude haberla tomado por esposa! ¡Anda, toma a tu esposa y vete!»20Y el faraón ordenó a sus hombres que expulsaran a Abram y a su esposa, junto con todos sus bienes.
