Esortazione alla tolleranza

1 Accogliete colui che è debole nella fede, ma non per sentenziare sui suoi scrupoli. 2 Uno crede di poter mangiare di tutto, mentre l’altro, che è debole, mangia verdure^[1]. 3 Colui che mangia di tutto non disprezzi colui che non mangia di tutto; e colui che non mangia di tutto non giudichi colui che mangia di tutto, perché Dio lo ha accolto. 4 Chi sei tu che giudichi il domestico altrui? Se sta in piedi o se cade è cosa che riguarda il suo padrone; ma egli sarà tenuto in piedi, perché il Signore è potente da farlo stare in piedi. 5 Uno stima un giorno più di un altro; l’altro stima tutti i giorni uguali; sia ciascuno pienamente convinto nella propria mente. 6 Chi ha riguardo al giorno, lo fa per il Signore; e chi mangia di tutto, lo fa per il Signore, poiché ringrazia Dio; e chi non mangia di tutto fa così per il Signore, e ringrazia Dio. 7 Nessuno di noi infatti vive per se stesso, e nessuno muore per se stesso; 8 perché, se viviamo, viviamo per il Signore, e se moriamo, moriamo per il Signore. Sia dunque che viviamo o che moriamo, siamo del Signore. 9 Poiché a questo fine Cristo è morto ed è tornato in vita: per essere il Signore sia dei morti sia dei viventi. 10 Ma tu, perché giudichi tuo fratello? E anche tu, perché disprezzi tuo fratello? Poiché tutti compariremo davanti al tribunale di Dio; 11 infatti sta scritto: «Come è vero che vivo», dice il Signore, «ogni ginocchio si piegherà davanti a me, e ogni lingua darà gloria a Dio»^[2]. 12 Quindi ciascuno di noi renderà conto di se stesso {a Dio}. 13 Smettiamo dunque di giudicarci gli uni gli altri; decidetevi piuttosto a non porre inciampo sulla via del fratello, né a essere per lui un’occasione di caduta. 14 Io so e sono persuaso nel Signore Gesù che nulla è impuro in se stesso; però se uno pensa che una cosa è impura, per lui è impura. 15 Ora, se a motivo di un cibo tuo fratello è turbato, tu non cammini più secondo amore. Non perdere, con il tuo cibo, colui per il quale Cristo è morto! 16 Ciò che è bene per voi non sia dunque oggetto di biasimo; 17 perché il regno di Dio non consiste in vivanda né in bevanda, ma è giustizia, pace e gioia nello Spirito Santo. 18 Poiché chi serve Cristo in questo, è gradito a Dio e approvato dagli uomini. 19 Cerchiamo dunque di conseguire le cose che contribuiscono alla pace e alla reciproca edificazione. 20 Non distruggere, per un cibo, l’opera di Dio. Certo, tutte le cose sono pure; ma è male quando uno mangia dando occasione di peccato. 21 È bene non mangiare carne, né bere vino, né fare cosa alcuna che porti il tuo fratello a inciampare. 22 Tu, la fede che hai, serbala per te stesso, davanti a Dio. Beato colui che non condanna se stesso in quello che approva. 23 Ma chi ha dei dubbi riguardo a ciò che mangia è condannato, perché la sua condotta non è dettata dalla fede; e tutto quello che non viene da fede è peccato.

Von den Schwachen und Starken im Glauben

1 Den Schwachen im Glauben nehmt an und streitet nicht über Meinungen. (Ro 15,1; 1Co 8,9) 2 Der eine glaubt, er dürfe alles essen. Der Schwache aber isst kein Fleisch^[1]. (Gen 1,29; Gen 9,3) 3 Wer isst, der verachte den nicht, der nicht isst; und wer nicht isst, der richte den nicht, der isst; denn Gott hat ihn angenommen. (Col 2,16) 4 Wer bist du, dass du einen fremden Knecht richtest? Er steht oder fällt seinem Herrn. Er wird aber stehen bleiben; denn der Herr kann ihn aufrecht halten. (Mat 7,1; Giac 4,11) 5 Der eine hält einen Tag für höher als den andern; der andere aber hält alle Tage für gleich. Ein jeder sei seiner Meinung gewiss. (Ga 4,10) 6 Wer auf den Tag achtet, der tut’s im Blick auf den Herrn; wer isst, der isst im Blick auf den Herrn, denn er dankt Gott; und wer nicht isst, der isst im Blick auf den Herrn nicht und dankt Gott auch. 7 Denn unser keiner lebt sich selber, und keiner stirbt sich selber. 8 Leben wir, so leben wir dem Herrn; sterben wir, so sterben wir dem Herrn. Darum: wir leben oder sterben, so sind wir des Herrn. (2Co 5,15; Ga 2,20) 9 Denn dazu ist Christus gestorben und wieder lebendig geworden, dass er über Tote und Lebende Herr sei. 10 Du aber, was richtest du deinen Bruder? Oder du, was verachtest du deinen Bruder? Wir werden alle vor den Richterstuhl Gottes gestellt werden. (Mat 25,31; At 17,31; 2Co 5,10) 11 Denn es steht geschrieben: »So wahr ich lebe, spricht der Herr, mir sollen sich alle Knie beugen, und alle Zungen sollen Gott bekennen.« (Fili 2,10) 12 So wird nun jeder von uns für sich selbst Gott Rechenschaft geben. (Ga 6,5) 13 Darum lasst uns nicht mehr einer den andern richten; sondern richtet vielmehr darauf euren Sinn, dass niemand seinem Bruder einen Anstoß oder Ärgernis bereite. (1Co 10,32) 14 Ich weiß und bin gewiss in dem Herrn Jesus, dass nichts unrein ist an sich selbst; nur für den, der es für unrein hält, für den ist es unrein. (Mat 15,11; At 10,15; Tit 1,15) 15 Wenn aber dein Bruder wegen deiner Speise betrübt wird, so handelst du nicht mehr nach der Liebe. Bringe nicht durch deine Speise den ins Verderben, für den Christus gestorben ist. (1Co 8,11) 16 Es soll doch nicht verlästert werden, was ihr Gutes habt. 17 Denn das Reich Gottes ist nicht Essen und Trinken, sondern Gerechtigkeit und Friede und Freude im Heiligen Geist. (1Co 8,8; Eb 13,9) 18 Wer darin Christus dient, der ist Gott wohlgefällig und bei den Menschen geachtet. 19 Darum lasst uns dem nachstreben, was zum Frieden dient und zur Erbauung untereinander. (Ro 12,18; Ro 15,2) 20 Zerstöre nicht um der Speise willen Gottes Werk. Es ist zwar alles rein; aber es ist nicht gut für den, der es isst mit schlechtem Gewissen. 21 Es ist besser, du isst kein Fleisch und trinkst keinen Wein und tust nichts, woran dein Bruder Anstoß nimmt. 22 Den Glauben, den du hast, habe für dich selbst vor Gott. Selig ist, der sich selbst nicht verurteilen muss in dem, was er gut heißt. 23 Wer aber zweifelt und dennoch isst, der ist schon verurteilt, denn es kommt nicht aus dem Glauben. Was aber nicht aus dem Glauben kommt, das ist Sünde.

1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. 3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. 4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. 5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. 16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of: 17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. 20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. 21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. 22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. 23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

1 Reciban al que es débil en la fe, pero no para entrar en discusiones. 2 A algunos su fe les permite comer de todo, pero hay quienes son débiles en la fe, y sólo comen verduras. 3 El que come de todo no debe menospreciar al que no come ciertas cosas, y el que no come de todo no debe condenar al que lo hace, pues Dios lo ha aceptado. 4 ¿Quién eres tú para juzgar al siervo de otro? Que se mantenga en pie, o que caiga, es asunto de su propio señor. Y se mantendrá en pie, porque el Señor tiene poder para sostenerlo. 5 Hay quien considera que un día tiene más importancia que otro, pero hay quien considera iguales todos los días. Cada uno debe estar firme en sus propias opiniones. 6 El que le da importancia especial a cierto día, lo hace para el Señor. El que come de todo, come para el Señor, y lo demuestra dándole gracias a Dios; y el que no come, para el Señor se abstiene, y también da gracias a Dios. 7 Porque ninguno de nosotros vive para sí mismo, ni tampoco muere para sí. 8 Si vivimos, para el Señor vivimos; y si morimos, para el Señor morimos. Así pues, sea que vivamos o que muramos, del Señor somos. 9 Para esto mismo murió Cristo, y volvió a vivir, para ser Señor tanto de los que han muerto como de los que aún viven. 10 Tú, entonces, ¿por qué juzgas a tu hermano? O tú, ¿por qué lo menosprecias? ¡Todos tendremos que comparecer ante el tribunal de Dios! 11 Está escrito: «Tan cierto como que yo vivo —dice el Señor—, ante mí se doblará toda rodilla y toda lengua confesará a Dios.»^[1] 12 Así que cada uno de nosotros tendrá que dar cuentas de sí a Dios. 13 Por tanto, dejemos de juzgarnos unos a otros. Más bien, propónganse no poner tropiezos ni obstáculos al hermano. 14 Yo, de mi parte, estoy plenamente convencido en el Señor Jesús de que no hay nada impuro en sí mismo. Si algo es impuro, lo es solamente para quien así lo considera. 15 Ahora bien, si tu hermano se angustia por causa de lo que comes, ya no te comportas con amor. No destruyas, por causa de la comida, al hermano por quien Cristo murió. 16 En una palabra, no den lugar a que se hable mal del bien que ustedes practican, 17 porque el reino de Dios no es cuestión de comidas o bebidas sino de justicia, paz y alegría en el Espíritu Santo. 18 El que de esta manera sirve a Cristo, agrada a Dios y es aprobado por sus semejantes. 19 Por lo tanto, esforcémonos por promover todo lo que conduzca a la paz y a la mutua edificación. 20 No destruyas la obra de Dios por causa de la comida. Todo alimento es puro; lo malo es hacer tropezar a otros por lo que uno come. 21 Más vale no comer carne ni beber vino, ni hacer nada que haga caer a tu hermano. 22 Así que la convicción^[2] que tengas tú al respecto, manténla como algo entre Dios y tú. Dichoso aquel a quien su conciencia no lo acusa por lo que hace. 23 Pero el que tiene dudas en cuanto a lo que come, se condena; porque no lo hace por convicción. Y todo lo que no se hace por convicción es pecado.
