Giuseppe riconosciuto dai fratelli

1 Allora Giuseppe non poté più contenersi davanti a tutto il suo seguito e gridò: «Fate uscire tutti dalla mia presenza!» Nessuno rimase con Giuseppe quando egli si fece riconoscere dai suoi fratelli. 2 Alzò la voce piangendo; gli Egiziani lo udirono e lo udì la casa del faraone. 3 Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Io sono Giuseppe! Mio padre vive ancora?» Ma i suoi fratelli non gli potevano rispondere, perché erano atterriti dalla sua presenza. 4 Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Vi prego, avvicinatevi a me!» Quelli s’avvicinarono ed egli disse: «Io sono Giuseppe, vostro fratello, che voi vendeste perché fosse portato in Egitto. 5 Ma ora non vi rattristate, né vi dispiaccia di avermi venduto perché io fossi portato qui; poiché Dio mi ha mandato qui prima di voi per conservarvi in vita. 6 Infatti, sono due anni che la carestia è nel paese e ce ne saranno altri cinque, durante i quali non ci sarà raccolto né mietitura. 7 Ma Dio mi ha mandato qui prima di voi, perché sia conservato di voi un residuo sulla terra e per salvare la vita a molti scampati. 8 Non siete dunque voi che mi avete mandato qui, ma è Dio. Egli mi ha stabilito come padre^[1] del faraone, signore di tutta la sua casa e governatore di tutto il paese d’Egitto. 9 Affrettatevi a risalire da mio padre e ditegli: “Così dice tuo figlio Giuseppe: ‘Dio mi ha stabilito signore di tutto l’Egitto; scendi da me, non tardare. 10 Tu abiterai nel paese di Goscen^[2] e sarai vicino a me: tu e i tuoi figli, i figli dei tuoi figli, le tue greggi, i tuoi armenti e tutto quello che possiedi. 11 Qui io ti sostenterò (perché ci saranno ancora cinque anni di carestia), affinché tu non sia ridotto in miseria: tu, la tua famiglia e tutto quello che possiedi’”. 12 Ecco, voi vedete con i vostri occhi, e mio fratello Beniamino vede con i suoi occhi, che è proprio la mia bocca quella che vi parla. 13 Raccontate dunque a mio padre tutta la mia gloria in Egitto e tutto quello che avete visto; e fate che mio padre scenda presto qua». 14 Poi si gettò al collo di Beniamino, suo fratello, e pianse; e Beniamino pianse sul collo di lui. 15 Baciò pure tutti i suoi fratelli, piangendo. Dopo questo, i suoi fratelli si misero a parlare con lui. 16 Intanto la voce si diffuse nella casa del faraone, e si disse: «Sono arrivati i fratelli di Giuseppe». Questo piacque al faraone e ai suoi servitori. 17 Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Di’ ai tuoi fratelli: “Fate questo: caricate le vostre bestie e andate, tornate al paese di Canaan; 18 prendete vostro padre, le vostre famiglie e venite da me; io vi darò il meglio del paese d’Egitto e voi mangerete il grasso della terra”. 19 Tu hai l’ordine di dire loro: “Fate questo: prendete nel paese d’Egitto dei carri per i vostri bambini e per le vostre mogli; conducete vostro padre e venite. 20 E non vi rincresca di lasciare la vostra roba, perché il meglio di tutto il paese d’Egitto sarà vostro”». 21 I figli d’Israele fecero così e Giuseppe diede loro dei carri, secondo l’ordine del faraone, e diede loro delle provviste per il viaggio. 22 Diede un abito di ricambio per ciascuno, ma a Beniamino diede trecento sicli d’argento e cinque mute di vestiti; 23 a suo padre mandò questo: dieci asini carichi delle migliori cose d’Egitto, dieci asine cariche di grano, di pane e di viveri per suo padre durante il viaggio. 24 Così congedò i suoi fratelli e questi partirono; ed egli disse loro: «Non ci siano, durante il viaggio, delle liti tra di voi». 25 Essi risalirono dall’Egitto e giunsero nel paese di Canaan, da Giacobbe loro padre. 26 Gli riferirono ogni cosa, dicendo: «Giuseppe vive ancora ed è governatore di tutto il paese d’Egitto». Ma il suo cuore rimase freddo, perché egli non credeva loro. 27 Essi gli ripeterono tutte le parole che Giuseppe aveva dette loro. Quando egli vide i carri che Giuseppe aveva mandato per trasportarlo, lo spirito di Giacobbe loro padre si ravvivò. 28 E Israele disse: «Basta, mio figlio Giuseppe vive ancora; io andrò e lo vedrò prima di morire».

Josef gibt sich seinen Brüdern zu erkennen

1 Da konnte Josef nicht länger an sich halten vor allen, die um ihn her standen, und er rief: Lasst jedermann von mir hinausgehen! Und stand kein Mensch bei ihm, als sich Josef seinen Brüdern zu erkennen gab. 2 Und er weinte laut, dass es die Ägypter und das Haus des Pharao hörten, 3 und sprach zu seinen Brüdern: Ich bin Josef. Lebt mein Vater noch? Und seine Brüder konnten ihm nicht antworten, so erschraken sie vor seinem Angesicht. 4 Er aber sprach zu seinen Brüdern: Tretet doch her zu mir! Und sie traten herzu. Und er sprach: Ich bin Josef, euer Bruder, den ihr nach Ägypten verkauft habt. (Gen 37,28) 5 Und nun bekümmert euch nicht und lasst es euch nicht leid sein, dass ihr mich hierher verkauft habt; denn um eures Lebens willen hat mich Gott vor euch hergesandt. (Gen 50,20) 6 Denn es sind nun zwei Jahre, dass Hungersnot im Lande ist, und sind noch fünf Jahre, dass weder Pflügen noch Ernten sein wird. 7 Aber Gott hat mich vor euch hergesandt, dass er euch übrig lasse auf Erden und euer Leben erhalte zu einer großen Errettung. 8 Und nun, ihr habt mich nicht hergesandt, sondern Gott; der hat mich dem Pharao zum Vater gesetzt und zum Herrn über sein ganzes Haus und zum Herrscher über ganz Ägyptenland. (Gen 41,39) 9 Eilt nun und zieht hinauf zu meinem Vater und sagt ihm: Das lässt dir Josef, dein Sohn, sagen: Gott hat mich zum Herrn über ganz Ägypten gesetzt; komm herab zu mir, säume nicht! 10 Du sollst im Lande Goschen wohnen und nahe bei mir sein, du und deine Kinder und deine Kindeskinder, dein Kleinvieh und Großvieh und alles, was du hast. 11 Ich will dich dort versorgen, denn es sind noch fünf Jahre Hungersnot, damit du nicht verarmst mit deinem Hause und allem, was du hast. 12 Siehe, eure Augen sehen es und die Augen meines Bruders Benjamin, dass ich leibhaftig mit euch rede. 13 Verkündet meinem Vater alle meine Herrlichkeit in Ägypten und alles, was ihr gesehen habt; eilt und bringt meinen Vater hierher. 14 Und er fiel seinem Bruder Benjamin um den Hals und weinte, und Benjamin weinte auch an seinem Halse, 15 und er küsste alle seine Brüder und weinte an ihrer Brust. Danach redeten seine Brüder mit ihm. 16 Und als das Gerücht kam in des Pharao Haus, dass Josefs Brüder gekommen wären, gefiel es dem Pharao gut und allen seinen Knechten. 17 Und der Pharao sprach zu Josef: Sage deinen Brüdern: Macht es so: Beladet eure Tiere, macht euch auf in das Land Kanaan! 18 Nehmt euren Vater und alle die Euren und kommt zu mir; ich will euch das Beste geben in Ägyptenland, und ihr sollt das Fett des Landes essen. 19 Und gebiete ihnen: Macht es so: Nehmt mit euch aus Ägyptenland Wagen für eure Kinder und Frauen und bringt euren Vater mit und kommt. 20 Und bekümmert euch nicht um euren Hausrat; denn das Beste des ganzen Landes Ägypten soll euer sein. 21 Die Söhne Israels taten so. Und Josef gab ihnen Wagen nach dem Befehl des Pharao und Zehrung auf den Weg 22 und gab ihnen allen, einem jeden ein Feierkleid, aber Benjamin gab er dreihundert Silberstücke und fünf Feierkleider. 23 Und seinem Vater sandte er zugleich zehn Esel, mit dem Besten aus Ägypten beladen, und zehn Eselinnen mit Getreide und Brot und mit Zehrung für seinen Vater auf den Weg. 24 Damit entließ er seine Brüder, und sie zogen hin. Und er sprach zu ihnen: Zankt nicht auf dem Wege! (Gen 42,22) 25 So zogen sie hinauf von Ägypten und kamen ins Land Kanaan zu ihrem Vater Jakob 26 und verkündeten ihm und sprachen: Josef lebt noch und ist Herr über ganz Ägyptenland! Aber sein Herz blieb kalt, denn er glaubte ihnen nicht. 27 Da sagten sie ihm alle Worte Josefs, die er zu ihnen gesagt hatte. Und als er die Wagen sah, die ihm Josef gesandt hatte, um ihn zu holen, wurde der Geist Jakobs, ihres Vaters, lebendig. 28 Und Israel sprach: Mir ist genug, dass mein Sohn Josef noch lebt; ich will hin und ihn sehen, ehe ich sterbe. (Gen 46,30)

1 Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. 2 And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard. 3 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. 4 And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. 5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. 6 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. 9 Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not: 10 And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children' children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast: 11 And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. 12 And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you. 13 And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither. 14 And he fell upon his brother Benjamin' neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck. 15 Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him. 16 And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh' house, saying, Joseph' brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. 17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan; 18 And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land. 19 Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. 20 Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours. 21 And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way. 22 To all of them he gave each man changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment. 23 And to his father he sent after this manner ; ten asses laden with the good things of Egypt, and ten she asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way. 24 So he sent his brethren away, and they departed: and he said unto them, See that ye fall not out by the way. 25 And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, 26 And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob' heart fainted, for he believed them not. 27 And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: 28 And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die.

1 José ya no pudo controlarse delante de sus servidores, así que ordenó: «¡Que salgan todos de mi presencia!» Y ninguno de ellos quedó con él. Cuando se dio a conocer a sus hermanos, 2 comenzó a llorar tan fuerte que los egipcios se enteraron, y la noticia llegó hasta la casa del faraón. 3 —Yo soy José —les declaró a sus hermanos—. ¿Vive todavía mi padre? Pero ellos estaban tan pasmados que no atinaban a contestarle. 4 No obstante, José insistió: —¡Acérquense! Cuando ellos se acercaron, él añadió: —Yo soy José, el hermano de ustedes, a quien vendieron a Egipto. 5 Pero ahora, por favor no se aflijan más ni se reprochen el haberme vendido, pues en realidad fue Dios quien me mandó delante de ustedes para salvar vidas. 6 Desde hace dos años la región está sufriendo de hambre, y todavía faltan cinco años más en que no habrá siembras ni cosechas. 7 Por eso Dios me envió delante de ustedes: para salvarles la vida de manera extraordinaria^[1] y de ese modo asegurarles descendencia sobre la tierra. 8 Fue Dios quien me envió aquí, y no ustedes. Él me ha puesto como asesor^[2] del faraón y administrador de su casa, y como gobernador de todo Egipto. 9 ¡Vamos, apúrense! Vuelvan a la casa de mi padre y díganle: “Así dice tu hijo José: ‘Dios me ha hecho gobernador de todo Egipto. Ven a verme. No te demores. 10 Vivirás en la región de Gosén, cerca de mí, con tus hijos y tus nietos, y con tus ovejas, y vacas y todas tus posesiones. 11 Yo les proveeré alimento allí, porque aún quedan cinco años más de hambre. De lo contrario, tú y tu familia, y todo lo que te pertenece, caerán en la miseria.’ ” 12 Además, ustedes y mi hermano Benjamín son testigos de que yo mismo lo he dicho. 13 Cuéntenle a mi padre del prestigio que tengo en Egipto, y de todo lo que han visto. ¡Pero apúrense y tráiganlo ya! 14 Y abrazó José a su hermano Benjamín, y comenzó a llorar. Benjamín, a su vez, también lloró abrazado a su hermano José. 15 Luego José, bañado en lágrimas, besó a todos sus hermanos. Sólo entonces se animaron ellos a hablarle. 16 Cuando llegó al palacio del faraón la noticia de que habían llegado los hermanos de José, tanto el faraón como sus funcionarios se alegraron. 17 Y el faraón le dijo a José: «Ordena a tus hermanos que carguen sus animales y vuelvan a Canaán. 18 Que me traigan a su padre y a sus familias. Yo les daré lo mejor de Egipto, y comerán de la abundancia de este país. 19 Diles, además, que se lleven carros de Egipto para traer a sus niños y mujeres, y también al padre de ustedes, 20 y que no se preocupen por las cosas que tengan que dejar, porque lo mejor de todo Egipto será para ustedes.» 21 Así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel. José les proporcionó los carros, conforme al mandato del faraón, y también les dio provisiones para el viaje. 22 Además, a cada uno le dio ropa nueva, y a Benjamín le entregó trescientas monedas de plata y cinco mudas de ropa. 23 A su padre le envió lo siguiente: diez asnos cargados con lo mejor de Egipto, diez asnas cargadas de cereales, y pan y otras provisiones para el viaje de su padre. 24 Al despedirse de sus hermanos, José les recomendó: «¡No se vayan peleando por el camino!» 25 Los hermanos de José salieron de Egipto y llegaron a Canaán, donde residía su padre Jacob. 26 Al llegar le dijeron: «¡José vive, José vive! ¡Es el gobernador de todo Egipto!» Jacob quedó atónito y no les creía, 27 pero ellos le repetían una y otra vez todo lo que José les había dicho. Y cuando su padre Jacob vio los carros que José había enviado para llevarlo, se reanimó. 28 Entonces exclamó: «¡Con esto me basta! ¡Mi hijo José aún vive! Iré a verlo antes de morirme.»
