Giuseppe in Egitto

1 Giuseppe fu portato in Egitto; e Potifar, ufficiale del faraone, capitano delle guardie, un Egiziano, lo comprò da quegli Ismaeliti che ce l’avevano condotto. 2 Il Signore era con Giuseppe: a lui riusciva bene ogni cosa e stava in casa del suo padrone egiziano. 3 Il suo padrone vide che il Signore era con lui e che il Signore gli faceva prosperare nelle mani tutto ciò che intraprendeva. 4 Giuseppe trovò grazia agli occhi di lui e si occupava del servizio personale di Potifar, il quale lo fece maggiordomo della sua casa e gli affidò l’amministrazione di tutto quello che possedeva. 5 Dal momento che lo ebbe fatto maggiordomo della sua casa e gli ebbe affidato tutto quello che possedeva, il Signore benedisse la casa dell’Egiziano per amore di Giuseppe; la benedizione del Signore si posò su tutto ciò che egli possedeva, in casa e in campagna. 6 Potifar lasciò tutto quello che aveva nelle mani di Giuseppe; non si occupava più di nulla, tranne del cibo che mangiava. Giuseppe era avvenente e di bell’aspetto.

Giuseppe in prigione

7 Dopo queste cose, la moglie del padrone di Giuseppe gli mise gli occhi addosso e gli disse: «Unisciti a me!» 8 Ma egli rifiutò e disse alla moglie del suo padrone: «Ecco, il mio padrone non mi chiede conto di quanto è nella casa e mi ha affidato tutto quello che ha. 9 In questa casa egli stesso non è più grande di me e nulla mi ha vietato, se non te, perché sei sua moglie. Come dunque potrei fare questo gran male e peccare contro Dio?» 10 Benché lei gliene parlasse ogni giorno, Giuseppe non acconsentì a unirsi né a stare con lei. 11 Un giorno egli entrò in casa per fare il suo lavoro; lì non c’era nessuno della gente di casa; 12 allora lei lo afferrò per la veste e gli disse: «Unisciti a me!» Ma egli le lasciò in mano la veste e fuggì. 13 Quando lei vide che egli le aveva lasciato la veste in mano e che era fuggito, 14 chiamò la gente di casa sua e disse: «Vedete, ci ha portato un Ebreo perché questi si prendesse gioco di noi; egli è venuto da me per unirsi a me, ma io ho gridato a gran voce. 15 E com’egli ha udito che io alzavo la voce e gridavo, mi ha lasciato qui la sua veste ed è fuggito». 16 E si tenne accanto la veste di lui finché il suo padrone non tornò a casa. 17 Allora gli parlò in questa maniera: «Quel servo ebreo che hai condotto in casa è venuto da me per prendersi gioco di me. 18 Ma appena io ho alzato la voce e ho gridato, egli mi ha lasciato qui la sua veste ed è fuggito». 19 Quando il padrone di Giuseppe udì le parole di sua moglie che gli diceva: «Il tuo servo mi ha fatto questo!» si accese d’ira. 20 Il padrone di Giuseppe lo prese e lo mise nella prigione, nel luogo dove si tenevano chiusi i carcerati del re. Egli era dunque là in quella prigione. 21 E il Signore fu con Giuseppe, gli mostrò il suo favore e gli fece trovare grazia agli occhi del governatore della prigione. 22 Così il governatore della prigione affidò alla sorveglianza di Giuseppe tutti i detenuti che erano nel carcere; e nulla si faceva senza di lui. 23 Il governatore della prigione non rivedeva niente di quello che era affidato a lui, perché il Signore era con lui, e il Signore faceva prosperare tutto quello che egli intraprendeva.

Josef in Potifars Haus

1 Josef wurde hinab nach Ägypten geführt, und Potifar, ein Ägypter, der Kämmerer des Pharao und Oberste der Leibwache, kaufte ihn von den Ismaelitern, die ihn hinabgebracht hatten. (Gen 37,28; Gen 37,36) 2 Und der HERR war mit Josef, sodass er ein Mann wurde, dem alles glückte. Und er war in seines Herrn, des Ägypters, Hause. (Gen 26,24) 3 Und sein Herr sah, dass der HERR mit ihm war; und alles, was er tat, ließ der HERR in seiner Hand glücken, 4 sodass er Gnade fand in seinen Augen und sein Diener wurde. Er setzte ihn über sein Haus; und alles, was er hatte, gab er in seine Hände. 5 Und von der Zeit an, da er ihn über sein Haus und alle seine Güter gesetzt hatte, segnete der HERR des Ägypters Haus um Josefs willen, und es war lauter Segen des HERRN in allem, was er hatte, zu Hause und auf dem Felde. (Gen 30,27) 6 Darum ließ er alles in Josefs Händen, was er hatte, und kümmerte sich selbst um nichts außer um das, was er aß und trank. Und Josef war schön an Gestalt und hübsch von Angesicht. (Gen 43,32) 7 Und es begab sich danach, dass seines Herrn Frau ihre Augen auf Josef warf und sprach: Schlafe bei mir! 8 Er weigerte sich aber und sprach zur Frau seines Herrn: Siehe, mein Herr kümmert sich selbst um nichts, was im Hause ist, und alles, was er hat, das hat er in meine Hände gegeben; 9 er ist in diesem Hause nicht größer als ich, und er hat mir nichts vorenthalten außer dir, weil du seine Frau bist. Wie sollte ich denn nun ein solch großes Übel tun und gegen Gott sündigen? (Eso 20,14; Le 18,20) 10 Und sie bedrängte Josef mit solchen Worten täglich. Aber er gehorchte ihr nicht, dass er bei ihr schlief und bei ihr wäre. 11 Es begab sich an einem dieser Tage, dass Josef in das Haus ging, seine Arbeit zu tun, und kein Mensch vom Gesinde des Hauses war dabei. 12 Und sie erwischte ihn bei seinem Kleid und sprach: Schlafe bei mir! Aber er ließ das Kleid in ihrer Hand und floh und lief zum Hause hinaus. 13 Als sie nun sah, dass er sein Kleid in ihrer Hand ließ und hinaus entfloh, 14 rief sie das Gesinde ihres Hauses und sprach zu ihnen: Seht, er hat uns den hebräischen Mann hergebracht, dass der seinen Mutwillen mit uns treibe. Er kam zu mir herein und wollte bei mir schlafen; aber ich rief mit lauter Stimme. 15 Und als er hörte, dass ich ein Geschrei machte und rief, da ließ er sein Kleid bei mir und floh und lief hinaus. 16 Und sie legte sein Kleid neben sich, bis sein Herr heimkam, 17 und sagte zu ihm ebendieselben Worte und sprach: Der hebräische Knecht, den du uns hergebracht hast, kam zu mir herein und wollte seinen Mutwillen mit mir treiben. 18 Als ich aber ein Geschrei machte und rief, da ließ er sein Kleid bei mir und floh hinaus.

Josef im Gefängnis

19 Als sein Herr die Worte seiner Frau hörte, die sie ihm sagte und sprach: So hat dein Knecht an mir getan, wurde er sehr zornig. 20 Da nahm ihn Josefs Herr und warf ihn ins Gefängnis, in dem des Königs Gefangene waren. Und er blieb allda im Gefängnis. 21 Aber der HERR war mit Josef und neigte ihm die Herzen zu und schenkte ihm die Gunst des Amtmanns über das Gefängnis, 22 sodass der ihm alle Gefangenen im Gefängnis in seine Hand gab, und alles, was dort zu tun war, geschah durch ihn. 23 Der Amtmann über das Gefängnis kümmerte sich um nichts; denn der HERR war mit Josef, und was er tat, dazu gab der HERR Glück.

1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. 2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. 4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. 5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian' house for Joseph' sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field. 6 And he left all that he had in Joseph' hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person , and well favoured. 7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master' wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. 8 But he refused, and said unto his master' wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? 10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. 11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. 13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, 14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: 15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out. 16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home. 17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: 18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out. 19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. 20 And Joseph' master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king' prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. 21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph' hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it . 23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

José y la esposa de Potifar

1 Cuando José fue llevado a Egipto, los ismaelitas que lo habían trasladado allá lo vendieron a Potifar, un egipcio que era funcionario del faraón y capitán de su guardia. 2 Ahora bien, el Señor estaba con José y las cosas le salían muy bien. Mientras José vivía en la casa de su patrón egipcio, 3 éste se dio cuenta de que el Señor estaba con José y lo hacía prosperar en todo. 4 José se ganó la confianza de Potifar, y éste lo nombró mayordomo de toda su casa y le confió la administración de todos sus bienes. 5 Por causa de José, el Señor bendijo la casa del egipcio Potifar a partir del momento en que puso a José a cargo de su casa y de todos sus bienes. La bendición del Señor se extendió sobre todo lo que tenía el egipcio, tanto en la casa como en el campo. 6 Por esto Potifar dejó todo a cargo de José, y tan sólo se preocupaba por lo que tenía que comer. José tenía muy buen físico y era muy atractivo. 7 Después de algún tiempo, la esposa de su patrón empezó a echarle el ojo y le propuso: —Acuéstate conmigo. 8 Pero José no quiso saber nada, sino que le contestó: —Mire, señora: mi patrón ya no tiene que preocuparse de nada en la casa, porque todo me lo ha confiado a mí. 9 En esta casa no hay nadie más importante que yo. Mi patrón no me ha negado nada, excepto meterme con usted, que es su esposa. ¿Cómo podría yo cometer tal maldad y pecar así contra Dios? 10 Y por más que ella lo acosaba día tras día para que se acostara con ella y le hiciera compañía, José se mantuvo firme en su rechazo. 11 Un día, en un momento en que todo el personal de servicio se encontraba ausente, José entró en la casa para cumplir con sus responsabilidades. 12 Entonces la mujer de Potifar lo agarró del manto y le rogó: «¡Acuéstate conmigo!» Pero José, dejando el manto en manos de ella, salió corriendo de la casa. 13 Al ver ella que él había dejado el manto en sus manos y había salido corriendo, 14 llamó a los siervos de la casa y les dijo: «¡Miren!, el hebreo que nos trajo mi esposo sólo ha venido a burlarse de nosotros. Entró a la casa con la intención de acostarse conmigo, pero yo grité con todas mis fuerzas. 15 En cuanto me oyó gritar, salió corriendo y dejó su manto a mi lado.» 16 La mujer guardó el manto de José hasta que su marido volvió a su casa. 17 Entonces le contó la misma historia: «El esclavo hebreo que nos trajiste quiso aprovecharse de mí. 18 Pero en cuanto grité con todas mis fuerzas, salió corriendo y dejó su manto a mi lado.» 19 Cuando el patrón de José escuchó de labios de su mujer cómo la había tratado el esclavo, se enfureció 20 y mandó que echaran a José en la cárcel donde estaban los presos del rey. Pero aun en la cárcel 21 el Señor estaba con él y no dejó de mostrarle su amor. Hizo que se ganara la confianza del guardia de la cárcel, 22 el cual puso a José a cargo de todos los prisioneros y de todo lo que allí se hacía. 23 Como el Señor estaba con José y hacía prosperar todo lo que él hacía, el guardia de la cárcel no se preocupaba de nada de lo que dejaba en sus manos.
