Sconfitta dei Filistei a Eben-Ezer

1 Quelli di Chiriat-Iearim vennero a prendere l’arca del Signore; la portarono in casa di Abinadab, sulla collina, e consacrarono suo figlio Eleazar perché custodisse l’arca del Signore. 2 Dal giorno che l’arca era stata collocata a Chiriat-Iearim era passato molto tempo; vent’anni erano trascorsi e tutta la casa d’Israele alzò lamenti verso il Signore. 3 Allora Samuele parlò a tutta la casa d’Israele e disse: «Se davvero tornate al Signore con tutto il vostro cuore, togliete di mezzo a voi gli dèi stranieri e gli idoli di Astarte, volgete risolutamente il vostro cuore verso il Signore e servite lui, lui solo. Allora egli vi libererà dalle mani dei Filistei». 4 Così i figli d’Israele tolsero via gli idoli di Baal^[1] e di Astarte^[2], e servirono il Signore soltanto. 5 Poi Samuele disse: «Radunate tutto Israele a Mispa, e io pregherò il Signore per voi». 6 Ed essi si radunarono a Mispa, attinsero dell’acqua, la sparsero davanti al Signore, digiunarono quel giorno e dissero: «Abbiamo peccato contro il Signore». E Samuele fu giudice dei figli d’Israele a Mispa. 7 I Filistei seppero che i figli d’Israele si erano radunati a Mispa, e i loro prìncipi salirono contro Israele. I figli d’Israele lo seppero, ebbero paura dei Filistei 8 e dissero a Samuele: «Non cessare di pregare per noi il Signore, il nostro Dio, affinché ci liberi dalle mani dei Filistei. 9 Samuele prese un agnello da latte e l’offrì intero in olocausto al Signore; e gridò al Signore per Israele, e il Signore lo esaudì. 10 Mentre Samuele offriva l’olocausto, i Filistei si avvicinarono per assalire Israele; ma il Signore in quel giorno fece rimbombare dei tuoni con gran fragore contro i Filistei e li mise in rotta, tanto che essi furono sconfitti davanti a Israele. 11 Gli uomini d’Israele uscirono da Mispa, inseguirono i Filistei e li batterono fin sotto Bet-Car. 12 Allora Samuele prese una pietra, la pose tra Mispa e Sen e la chiamò Eben-Ezer^[3], e disse: «Fin qui il Signore ci ha soccorsi». 13 I Filistei furono umiliati e non tornarono più a invadere il territorio d’Israele; e la mano del Signore fu contro i Filistei per tutto il tempo di Samuele. 14 Le città che i Filistei avevano prese a Israele tornarono a Israele, da Ecron fino a Gat. Israele liberò il loro territorio dalle mani dei Filistei. Ci fu pace anche fra Israele e gli Amorei.

Samuele giudice d’Israele

15 Samuele fu giudice d’Israele per tutto il tempo della sua vita. 16 Egli andava ogni anno a fare il giro di Betel, di Ghilgal e di Mispa, ed esercitava la funzione di giudice d’Israele in tutti quei luoghi. 17 Poi tornava a Rama, dove abitava; là giudicava Israele e là costruì un altare al Signore.

2 Aber von dem Tage an, da die Lade des HERRN zu Kirjat-Jearim blieb, verging eine lange Zeit; es wurden zwanzig Jahre. Dann wandte sich das ganze Haus Israel zum HERRN. (1Sam 6,21; 2Sam 6,2; 1Cr 13,6) 3 Samuel aber sprach zum ganzen Hause Israel: Wenn ihr euch von ganzem Herzen zu dem HERRN bekehren wollt, so tut von euch die fremden Götter und die Astarten und richtet euer Herz zu dem HERRN und dient ihm allein, so wird er euch erretten aus der Hand der Philister. (Gen 35,2; Gios 24,23) 4 Da taten die Israeliten von sich die Baale und Astarten und dienten dem HERRN allein. (De 6,13; Giudic 10,16) 5 Samuel aber sprach: Versammelt ganz Israel in Mizpa, dass ich für euch bete zum HERRN. (Giudic 20,1; 1Sam 10,17; 2Re 25,23) 6 Und sie kamen zusammen in Mizpa und schöpften Wasser und gossen es aus vor dem HERRN und fasteten an demselben Tage und sprachen dort: Wir haben an dem HERRN gesündigt. So richtete Samuel die Israeliten zu Mizpa. 7 Da aber die Philister hörten, dass die Israeliten zusammengekommen waren in Mizpa, zogen die Fürsten der Philister hinauf gegen Israel. Und die Israeliten hörten es und fürchteten sich vor den Philistern. 8 Und die Israeliten sprachen zu Samuel: Lass nicht ab, für uns zu schreien zu dem HERRN, unserm Gott, dass er uns helfe aus der Hand der Philister. 9 Samuel nahm ein Milchlamm und opferte dem HERRN ein Brandopfer – als Ganzopfer – und schrie zum HERRN für Israel, und der HERR erhörte ihn. 10 Und während Samuel das Brandopfer opferte, kamen die Philister heran zum Kampf gegen Israel. Aber der HERR ließ donnern mit großem Schall über die Philister am selben Tage und schreckte sie, dass sie vor Israel geschlagen wurden. (Gen 35,5; Eso 14,24; Gios 10,10; Giudic 4,15)

11 Da zogen die Männer Israels aus von Mizpa und jagten den Philistern nach und schlugen sie bis unterhalb von Bet-Kar. 12 Da nahm Samuel einen Stein und stellte ihn auf zwischen Mizpa und Schen und nannte ihn »Eben-Eser«^[1] und sprach: Bis hierher hat uns der HERR geholfen. 13 So wurden die Philister gedemütigt und kamen nicht mehr in das Gebiet Israels. Und die Hand des HERRN lag schwer auf den Philistern, solange Samuel lebte. 14 Also fielen die Städte an Israel zurück, die die Philister ihnen genommen hatten, von Ekron bis Gat, und Israel riss ihr Gebiet aus der Hand der Philister. Und Israel hatte Frieden mit den Amoritern. 15 Samuel aber richtete Israel sein Leben lang (Giudic 10,1; Giudic 12,7) 16 und zog Jahr für Jahr umher und kam nach Bethel und Gilgal und Mizpa. Und wenn er Israel an allen diesen Orten gerichtet hatte, 17 kam er wieder nach Rama – denn da war sein Haus –, und dort richtete er Israel. Auch baute er dort dem HERRN einen Altar. (1Sam 1,19)

1 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD. 2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD. 3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines. 4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only. 5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD. 6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh. 7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it , they were afraid of the Philistines. 8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines. 9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him. 10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar. 12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us. 13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. 14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites. 15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. 16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places. 17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.

Samuel derrota a los filisteos en Mizpa

2 El arca permaneció en Quiriat Yearín durante mucho tiempo. Pasaron veinte años, y todo el pueblo de Israel buscaba con ansiedad al Señor. 3 Por eso Samuel le dijo al pueblo: «Si ustedes desean volverse al Señor de todo corazón, desháganse de los dioses extranjeros y de las imágenes de Astarté. Dedíquense totalmente a servir sólo al Señor, y él los librará del poder de los filisteos.» 4 Así que los israelitas echaron fuera a los ídolos de Baal y a las imágenes de Astarté, y sirvieron sólo al Señor. 5 Luego Samuel ordenó: «Reúnan a todo Israel en Mizpa para que yo ruegue al Señor por ustedes.» 6 Cuando los israelitas se reunieron en Mizpa, sacaron agua y la derramaron ante el Señor. También hubo paz entre Israel y los amorreos. 15 Samuel siguió gobernando a Israel toda su vida. 16 Todos los años recorría las ciudades de Betel, Guilgal y Mizpa, y atendía los asuntos del país en esas regiones. 17 Luego regresaba a Ramá, donde residía, y desde allí gobernaba a Israel. También allí erigió un altar al Señor.
