Saul risparmiato da Davide nella spelonca di En-Ghedi

1 Davide salì di là e abitò nelle fortezze di En-Ghedi. 2 Quando Saul tornò dall’inseguimento dei Filistei, vennero a dirgli: «Davide è nel deserto di En-Ghedi». 3 Allora Saul prese tremila uomini, scelti fra tutto Israele, e andò in cerca di Davide e della sua gente fin sulle rocce delle capre selvatiche; 4 e giunse ai recinti di pecore che erano presso la via; là vi era una caverna, nella quale Saul entrò per fare i suoi bisogni. Davide e la sua gente erano in fondo alla caverna. 5 La gente di Davide gli disse: «Ecco il giorno nel quale il Signore ti dice: “Vedi, io ti do in mano il tuo nemico; fa’ di lui quello che ti piacerà”». Allora Davide si alzò e, senza farsi scorgere, tagliò il lembo del mantello di Saul. 6 Ma dopo, il cuore gli batté per aver tagliato il lembo del mantello di Saul. 7 Davide disse alla gente: «Mi guardi il Signore dall’agire contro il mio re, che è l’unto del Signore, e dal mettergli le mani addosso; poiché egli è l’unto del Signore». 8 Con queste parole Davide frenò la sua gente e non le permise di gettarsi su Saul. Saul si alzò, uscì dalla caverna e continuò il suo cammino. 9 Poi anche Davide si alzò, uscì dalla caverna e gridò dietro a Saul, dicendo: «O re, mio signore!» Saul si voltò indietro e Davide s’inchinò con la faccia a terra e si prostrò. 10 Davide disse a Saul: «Perché dai retta alle parole della gente che dice: “Davide cerca di farti del male?” 11 Ecco, in questo giorno tu vedi con i tuoi occhi che oggi il Signore ti aveva dato nelle mie mani in quella caverna; qualcuno mi disse di ucciderti, ma io ti ho risparmiato e ho detto: “Non metterò le mani addosso al mio signore, perché egli è l’unto del Signore”. 12 Ora, padre mio, guarda qui nella mia mano il lembo del tuo mantello. Se ti ho tagliato il lembo del mantello e non ti ho ucciso, puoi da questo vedere chiaramente che non c’è nella mia condotta malvagità né ribellione e che io non ho peccato contro di te, mentre tu mi tendi insidie per togliermi la vita! 13 Il Signore sia giudice fra me e te e il Signore mi vendichi di te; ma io non ti metterò le mani addosso. 14 Dice il proverbio antico: “Il male viene dai malvagi!” Io quindi non ti metterò le mani addosso. 15 Contro chi è uscito il re d’Israele? Chi vai tu perseguitando? Un cane morto, una pulce. 16 Sia dunque arbitro il Signore e giudichi fra me e te; egli veda e difenda la mia causa e mi renda giustizia, liberandomi dalle tue mani». 17 Quando Davide ebbe finito di dire queste parole a Saul, Saul disse: «È questa la tua voce, figlio mio Davide?» E Saul alzò la voce e pianse. 18 Poi disse a Davide: «Tu sei più giusto di me, poiché tu mi hai reso bene per male, mentre io ti ho reso male per bene. 19 Tu hai mostrato oggi la bontà con la quale ti comporti verso di me; poiché il Signore mi aveva dato nelle tue mani e tu non mi hai ucciso. 20 Se uno incontra il suo nemico, lascia forse che se ne vada in pace? Ti renda dunque il Signore il contraccambio del bene che mi hai fatto oggi! 21 Ora, ecco, io so che tu diventerai re e che il regno d’Israele rimarrà stabile nelle tue mani. 22 Giurami dunque nel nome del Signore che non distruggerai la mia discendenza dopo di me e che non estirperai il mio nome dalla casa di mio padre». 23 Davide lo giurò a Saul. Poi Saul andò a casa sua e Davide e la sua gente risalirono al loro rifugio.

David verschont Saul in der Höhle von En-Gedi

1 Und David zog von dort hinauf und blieb in den Bergfesten bei En-Gedi. (Gios 15,62) 2 Als nun Saul zurückkam von der Verfolgung der Philister, wurde ihm gesagt: Siehe, David ist in der Wüste En-Gedi. 3 Und Saul nahm dreitausend auserlesene Männer aus ganz Israel und zog hin, David samt seinen Männern zu suchen bei den Steinbockfelsen. 4 Und als er kam zu den Schafhürden am Wege, war dort eine Höhle, und Saul ging hinein, um seine Füße zu decken^[1]. David aber und seine Männer saßen hinten in der Höhle. (Sal 142,1) 5 Da sprachen die Männer Davids zu ihm: Siehe, das ist der Tag, von dem der HERR zu dir gesagt hat: Siehe, ich will deinen Feind in deine Hand geben, dass du mit ihm tust, was dir gefällt. Und David stand auf und schnitt leise einen Zipfel vom Rock Sauls. 6 Aber danach schlug ihm sein Herz, dass er den Zipfel vom Rock Sauls abgeschnitten hatte, (2Sam 24,10) 7 und er sprach zu seinen Männern: Das lasse der HERR ferne von mir sein, dass ich das tun sollte und meine Hand legen an meinen Herrn, den Gesalbten des HERRN; denn er ist der Gesalbte des HERRN. (1Sam 26,9; 1Sam 26,23; 2Sam 1,14) 8 Und David wies seine Männer mit diesen Worten von sich und ließ sie sich nicht an Saul vergreifen. Als aber Saul sich aufmachte aus der Höhle und seines Weges ging, 9 machte sich danach auch David auf und ging aus der Höhle und rief Saul nach und sprach: Mein Herr und König! Saul sah sich um. Und David neigte sein Antlitz zur Erde und fiel nieder. 10 Und David sprach zu Saul: Warum hörst du auf das Reden der Menschen, die da sagen: David sucht dein Unglück? 11 Siehe, heute haben deine Augen gesehen, dass dich der HERR heute in meine Hand gegeben hat in der Höhle, und man hat mir gesagt, dass ich dich töten sollte. Aber ich habe dich verschont; denn ich dachte: Ich will meine Hand nicht an meinen Herrn legen; denn er ist der Gesalbte des HERRN. 12 Mein Vater, sieh doch hier den Zipfel deines Rocks in meiner Hand! Dass ich den Zipfel von deinem Rock schnitt und dich nicht tötete, daran erkenne und sieh, dass nichts Böses in meiner Hand ist und kein Vergehen. Ich habe mich nicht an dir versündigt; aber du jagst mir nach, um mir das Leben zu nehmen. 13 Der HERR wird Richter sein zwischen mir und dir und mich an dir rächen, aber meine Hand soll nicht gegen dich sein; (Ro 12,19; 1P 2,23) 14 wie man sagt nach dem alten Sprichwort: Von Frevlern kommt Frevel; aber meine Hand soll nicht gegen dich sein. 15 Wem zieht der König von Israel nach? Wem jagst du nach? Einem toten Hund, einem einzelnen Floh! (1Sam 26,20) 16 Der HERR sei Richter und richte zwischen mir und dir und sehe darein und führe meine Sache, dass er mir Recht schaffe und mich rette aus deiner Hand! 17 Als nun David diese Worte zu Saul geredet hatte, sprach Saul: Ist das nicht deine Stimme, mein Sohn David? Und Saul erhob seine Stimme und weinte (1Sam 26,17) 18 und sprach zu David: Du bist gerechter als ich, du hast mir Gutes erwiesen; ich aber habe dir Böses erwiesen. 19 Und du hast mir heute gezeigt, wie du Gutes an mir getan hast, als mich der HERR in deine Hand gegeben hatte und du mich doch nicht getötet hast. 20 Wo ist jemand, der seinen Feind findet und lässt ihn im Guten seinen Weg gehen? Der HERR vergelte dir Gutes für das, was du heute an mir getan hast! 21 Nun siehe, ich weiß, dass du König werden wirst und das Königtum über Israel in deiner Hand Bestand haben wird. (1Sam 23,17) 22 So schwöre mir nun bei dem HERRN, dass du mein Geschlecht nach mir nicht ausrotten und meinen Namen nicht austilgen wirst aus meines Vaters Hause. (Gen 21,23; 2Sam 21,7) 23 Und David schwor es Saul. Da zog Saul heim. David aber mit seinen Männern zog hinauf auf die Bergfeste.

1 And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi. 2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats. 3 And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. 4 And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul' robe privily. 5 And it came to pass afterward, that David' heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul' skirt. 6 And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD' anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD. 7 So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way. 8 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself. 9 And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men' words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt? 10 Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD' anointed. 11 Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it. 12 The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. 13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. 14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea. 15 The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand. 16 And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. 17 And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil. 18 And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not. 19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day. 20 And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand. 21 Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father' house. 22 And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.

1 Cuando Saúl regresó de perseguir a los filisteos, le informaron que David estaba en el desierto de Engadi. 2 Entonces Saúl tomó consigo tres batallones de hombres escogidos de todo Israel, y se fue por los Peñascos de las Cabras, en busca de David y de sus hombres. 3 Por el camino, llegó a un redil de ovejas; y como había una cueva en el lugar, entró allí para hacer sus necesidades.^[1]David estaba escondido en el fondo de la cueva, con sus hombres, 4 y éstos le dijeron: —En verdad, hoy se cumple la promesa que te hizo el Señor cuando te dijo: “Yo pondré a tu enemigo en tus manos, para que hagas con él lo que mejor te parezca.” David se levantó y, sin hacer ruido, cortó el borde del manto de Saúl. 5 Pero le remordió la conciencia por lo que había hecho, 6 y les dijo a sus hombres: —¡Que el Señor me libre de hacerle al rey lo que ustedes sugieren! No puedo alzar la mano contra él, porque es el ungido del Señor. 7 De este modo David contuvo a sus hombres, y no les permitió que atacaran a Saúl. Pero una vez que éste salió de la cueva para proseguir su camino, 8 David lo siguió, gritando: —¡Majestad, Majestad! Saúl miró hacia atrás, y David, postrándose rostro en tierra, se inclinó 9 y le dijo: —¿Por qué hace caso Su Majestad a los que dicen que yo quiero hacerle daño? 10 Usted podrá ver con sus propios ojos que hoy mismo, en esta cueva, el Señor lo había entregado en mis manos. Mis hombres me incitaban a que lo matara, pero yo respeté su vida y dije: “No puedo alzar la mano contra el rey, porque es el ungido del Señor.” 11 Padre mío, mire usted el borde de su manto que tengo en la mano. Yo corté este pedazo, pero a usted no lo maté. Reconozca que yo no intento hacerle mal ni traicionarlo. Usted, sin embargo, me persigue para quitarme la vida, aunque yo no le he hecho ningún agravio. 12 ¡Que el Señor juzgue entre nosotros dos! ¡Y que el Señor me vengue de usted! Pero mi mano no se alzará contra usted. 13 Como dice el antiguo refrán: “De los malos, la maldad”; por eso mi mano jamás se alzará contra usted. 14 »¿Contra quién ha salido el rey de Israel? ¿A quién persigue? ¡A un perro muerto! ¡A una pulga! 15 ¡Que sea el Señor quien juzgue y dicte la sentencia entre nosotros dos! ¡Que examine mi causa, y me defienda y me libre de usted! 16 Cuando David terminó de hablar, Saúl le preguntó: —David, hijo mío, ¡pero si eres tú quien me habla! Y alzando la voz, se echó a llorar. 17 —Has actuado mejor que yo —continuó Saúl—. Me has devuelto bien por mal. 18 Hoy me has hecho reconocer lo bien que me has tratado, pues el Señor me entregó en tus manos, y no me mataste. 19 ¿Quién encuentra a su enemigo y le perdona la vida?^[2]¡Que el Señor te recompense por lo bien que me has tratado hoy! 20 Ahora caigo en cuenta de que tú serás el rey, y de que consolidarás el reino de Israel. 21 Júrame entonces, por el Señor, que no exterminarás mi descendencia ni borrarás el nombre de mi familia. 22 David se lo juró. Luego Saúl volvió a su palacio, y David y sus hombres subieron al refugio.
