1Il Signore disse a Samuele: «Fino a quando farai cordoglio per Saul, mentre io l’ho rigettato perché non regni più sopra Israele? Riempi d’olio il tuo corno e va’; ti manderò da Isai di Betlemme, perché mi sono provveduto un re tra i suoi figli».2Samuele rispose: «Come posso andare? Saul lo verrà a sapere e mi ucciderà». Il Signore disse: «Prenderai con te una giovenca e dirai: “Sono venuto a offrire un sacrificio al Signore”.3Inviterai Isai al sacrificio; io ti farò sapere quello che dovrai fare e tu ungerai per me colui che ti dirò».4Samuele dunque fece quello che il Signore gli aveva detto e andò a Betlemme. Gli anziani della città gli andarono incontro turbati, e gli chiesero: «Vieni in pace?»5Ed egli rispose: «Pace! Vengo a offrire un sacrificio al Signore; purificatevi e venite con me al sacrificio». Fece anche purificare Isai e i suoi figli e li invitò al sacrificio.6Mentre entravano, egli pensò, vedendo Eliab: «Certo l’unto del Signore è qui davanti a lui».7Ma il Signore disse a Samuele: «Non badare al suo aspetto né alla sua statura, perché io l’ho scartato; infatti il Signore non bada a ciò che colpisce lo sguardo dell’uomo: l’uomo guarda all’apparenza, ma il Signore guarda al cuore».8Allora Isai chiamò Abinadab e lo fece passare davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse: «Il Signore non si è scelto neppure questo».9Isai fece passare Samma, ma Samuele disse: «Il Signore non si è scelto neppure questo».10Isai fece passare così sette dei suoi figli davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse a Isai: «Il Signore non si è scelto questi».11Poi Samuele disse a Isai: «Sono questi tutti i tuoi figli?» Isai rispose: «Resta ancora il più giovane, ma è al pascolo con le pecore». Samuele disse a Isai: «Mandalo a cercare, perché non ci metteremo a mangiare prima che sia arrivato qua».12Isai dunque lo mandò a cercare, e lo fece venire. Egli era biondo, aveva begli occhi e un bell’aspetto. Il Signore disse a Samuele: «Àlzati, ungilo, perché è lui».13Allora Samuele prese il corno dell’olio e lo unse in mezzo ai suoi fratelli; da quel giorno lo Spirito del Signore investì Davide. Poi Samuele si alzò e se ne tornò a Rama.
Davide al servizio di Saul
14Lo Spirito del Signore si era ritirato da Saul; e uno spirito cattivo, permesso dal Signore, lo turbava.15I servitori di Saul gli dissero: «Ecco, un cattivo spirito permesso da Dio ti turba.16Ordini ora il nostro signore ai tuoi servi, che stanno davanti a te, di cercare un uomo che sappia suonare l’arpa; quando il cattivo spirito permesso da Dio verrà su di te, l’arpista si metterà a suonare e tu ti sentirai meglio».17Saul disse ai suoi servitori: «Trovatemi un uomo che suoni bene, e conducetelo qui».18Allora uno dei giovani prese a dire: «Ho visto un figlio di Isai, il Betlemmita, che sa suonare; è un uomo forte, valoroso, un guerriero, parla bene, è di bell’aspetto e il Signore è con lui».19Saul dunque inviò dei messaggeri da Isai per dirgli: «Mandami Davide, tuo figlio, che è con il gregge».20E Isai prese un asino carico di pane, un otre di vino, un capretto e mandò tutto a Saul per mezzo di Davide suo figlio.21Davide arrivò da Saul e si presentò a lui; Saul gli si affezionò molto e lo fece suo scudiero.22Saul mandò a dire a Isai: «Ti prego, lascia Davide al mio servizio, perché egli ha trovato grazia agli occhi miei».23Or quando il cattivo spirito permesso da Dio veniva su Saul, Davide prendeva l’arpa e si metteva a suonare; Saul si calmava, stava meglio e il cattivo spirito andava via da lui.

David kommt an Sauls Hof
14Der Geist des HERRN aber wich von Saul, und ein böser Geist vom HERRN verstörte ihn. (1Sam 18,10)15Da sprachen die Knechte Sauls zu ihm: Siehe, ein böser Geist von Gott verstört dich.16Unser Herr befehle nun seinen Knechten, die vor ihm stehen, dass sie einen Mann suchen, der auf der Harfe gut spielen kann, damit, wenn der böse Geist Gottes über dich kommt, er mit seiner Hand darauf spiele, und es besser mit dir werde.17Da sprach Saul zu seinen Knechten: Seht nach einem Mann, der des Saitenspiels kundig ist, und bringt ihn zu mir.18Da antwortete einer der jungen Männer und sprach: Ich habe gesehen einen Sohn Isais, des Bethlehemiters, der ist des Saitenspiels kundig, ein tapferer Mann und tüchtig zum Kampf, verständig in seinen Reden und schön, und der HERR ist mit ihm.19Da sandte Saul Boten zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Sende deinen Sohn David zu mir, der bei den Schafen ist.20Da nahm Isai einen Esel und Brot und einen Schlauch Wein und ein Ziegenböcklein und sandte es Saul durch seinen Sohn David.21So kam David zu Saul und diente ihm. 1And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.2And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it , he will kill me. Voy a enviarte a Belén, a la casa de Isaí, pues he escogido como rey a uno de sus hijos.2—¿Y cómo voy a ir? —respondió Samuel—. Si Saúl llega a enterarse, me matará. —Lleva una ternera —dijo el Señor—, y diles que vas a ofrecerle al Señor un sacrificio.3Invita a Isaí al sacrificio, y entonces te explicaré lo que debes hacer, pues ungirás para mi servicio a quien yo te diga.4Samuel hizo lo que le mandó el Señor. Pero cuando llegó a Belén, los ancianos del pueblo lo recibieron con mucho temor. —¿Vienes en son de paz? —le preguntaron.5—Claro que sí. He venido a ofrecerle al Señor un sacrificio. Purifíquense y vengan conmigo para tomar parte en él. Entonces Samuel purificó a Isaí y a sus hijos, y los invitó al sacrificio.6Cuando llegaron, Samuel se fijó en Eliab y pensó: «Sin duda que éste es el ungido del Señor.»7Pero el Señor le dijo a Samuel: —No te dejes impresionar por su apariencia ni por su estatura, pues yo lo he rechazado. La gente se fija en las apariencias, pero yo me fijo en el corazón.8Entonces Isaí llamó a Abinadab para presentárselo a Samuel, pero Samuel dijo: —A éste no lo ha escogido el Señor.9Luego le presentó a Sama, y Samuel repitió: —Tampoco a éste lo ha escogido.10Isaí le presentó a siete de sus hijos, pero Samuel le dijo: —El Señor no ha escogido a ninguno de ellos.11¿Son éstos todos tus hijos? —Queda el más pequeño —respondió Isaí—, pero está cuidando el rebaño. —Manda a buscarlo —insistió Samuel—, que no podemos continuar hasta que él llegue.12Isaí mandó a buscarlo, y se lo trajeron. Era buen mozo, trigueño y de buena presencia. El Señor le dijo a Samuel: —Éste es; levántate y úngelo.13Samuel tomó el cuerno de aceite y ungió al joven en presencia de sus hermanos. Entonces el Espíritu del Señor vino con poder sobre David, y desde ese día estuvo con él. Luego Samuel regresó a Ramá.
David al servicio de Saúl
14El Espíritu del Señor se apartó de Saúl, y en su lugar el Señor le envió un espíritu maligno para que lo atormentara.15Sus servidores le dijeron: —Como usted se dará cuenta, un espíritu maligno de parte de Dios lo está atormentando.16Así que ordene Su Majestad a estos siervos suyos que busquen a alguien que sepa tocar el arpa. Así, cuando lo ataque el espíritu maligno de parte de Dios, el músico tocará, y Su Majestad se sentirá mejor.17—Bien —les respondió Saúl—, consíganme un buen músico y tráiganlo.18Uno de los cortesanos sugirió: —Conozco a un muchacho que sabe tocar el arpa. Es valiente, hábil guerrero, sabe expresarse y es de buena presencia. Además, el Señor está con él. Su padre es Isaí, el de Belén.19Entonces Saúl envió unos mensajeros a Isaí para decirle: «Mándame a tu hijo David, el que cuida del rebaño.»20Isaí tomó un asno, alimento, un odre de vino y un cabrito, y se los envió a Saúl por medio de su hijo David.21Cuando David llegó, quedó al servicio de Saúl, quien lo llegó a apreciar mucho y lo hizo su escudero.22Luego Saúl le mandó este mensaje a Isaí: «Permite que David se quede a mi servicio, pues me ha causado muy buena impresión.»23Cada vez que el espíritu de parte de Dios atormentaba a Saúl, David tomaba su arpa y tocaba. La música calmaba a Saúl y lo hacía sentirse mejor, y el espíritu maligno se apartaba de él.
