1«Io sono stato ricercato da quelli che prima non chiedevano di me, sono stato trovato da quelli che prima non mi cercavano; ho detto: “Eccomi, eccomi” a una nazione che non portava il mio nome.2Ho steso tutto il giorno le mani verso un popolo ribelle, che cammina per una via non buona, seguendo i propri pensieri;3verso un popolo che sempre mi provoca sfacciatamente, che offre sacrifici nei giardini e fa fumare profumi sui mattoni;4che sta fra le tombe e passa le notti nelle caverne, che mangia carne di maiale e ha nei suoi vasi cibi impuri;5che dice: “Fatti in là, non ti avvicinare, perché io sono più santo di te”. Cose simili sono per me come un fumo nel naso, un fuoco che arde da mattina a sera.6Ecco, tutto ciò sta scritto davanti a me; io non tacerò, anzi vi darò la retribuzione, sì, vi verserò in grembo la retribuzione7delle iniquità vostre», dice il Signore, «e al tempo stesso delle iniquità dei vostri padri, che hanno fatto fumare profumi sui monti e mi hanno insultato sui colli; io misurerò loro in grembo il salario della loro condotta passata».8Così parla il Signore: «Come quando si trova del succo in un grappolo, si dice: “Non lo distruggere perché lì c’è una benedizione”, così farò io, per amore dei miei servi, e non distruggerò tutto.9Io farò uscire da Giacobbe una discendenza e da Giuda un erede dei miei monti; i miei eletti possederanno il paese, i miei servi vi abiteranno.10Saron sarà un recinto di greggi, la valle di Acor un luogo di riposo alle mandrie, per il mio popolo che mi avrà cercato.11Ma voi, che abbandonate il Signore, che dimenticate il mio monte santo, che apparecchiate la mensa a Gad e riempite la coppa di vino profumato a Meni[1],12io vi destino alla spada e vi piegherete tutti per essere scannati; poiché io ho chiamato e voi non avete risposto; ho parlato e voi non avete dato ascolto; ma avete fatto ciò che è male ai miei occhi e avete preferito ciò che mi dispiace».13Perciò così parla il Signore, Dio: «Ecco, i miei servi mangeranno, ma voi avrete fame; ecco, i miei servi berranno, ma voi avrete sete; ecco, i miei servi gioiranno, ma voi sarete delusi;14ecco, i miei servi canteranno per la gioia del loro cuore, ma voi griderete per l’angoscia del cuor vostro e urlerete perché avrete lo spirito affranto.15Lascerete il vostro nome come una imprecazione fra i miei eletti: “Il Signore, Dio, ti faccia morire!” Ma egli darà ai suoi servi un altro nome,16in modo che chi si augurerà di essere benedetto nel paese, lo farà per il Dio di verità, e colui che giurerà nel paese, lo farà per il Dio di verità; perché le afflizioni di prima saranno dimenticate, saranno nascoste ai miei occhi.17Poiché, ecco, io creo nuovi cieli e una nuova terra; non ci si ricorderà più delle cose di prima; esse non torneranno più in memoria.18Gioite, sì, esultate in eterno per quanto io sto per creare; poiché, ecco, io creo Gerusalemme per il gaudio e il suo popolo per la gioia.19Io esulterò a motivo di Gerusalemme e gioirò del mio popolo; là non si udranno più voci di pianto né grida d’angoscia;20non ci sarà più, in avvenire, bimbo nato per pochi giorni, né vecchio che non compia il numero dei suoi anni; chi morirà a cent’anni morirà giovane e il peccatore sarà colpito dalla maledizione a cent’anni.21Essi costruiranno case e le abiteranno; pianteranno vigne e ne mangeranno il frutto.22Non costruiranno più perché un altro abiti, non pianteranno più perché un altro mangi; poiché i giorni del mio popolo saranno come i giorni degli alberi; i miei eletti godranno a lungo l’opera delle loro mani.23Non si affaticheranno invano, non avranno più figli per vederli morire all’improvviso; poiché saranno la discendenza dei benedetti del Signore e i loro rampolli staranno con essi.24Avverrà che, prima che m’invochino, io risponderò; parleranno ancora, che già li avrò esauditi.25Il lupo e l’agnello pascoleranno assieme, il leone mangerà il foraggio come il bue, e il serpente si nutrirà di polvere. Non si farà né male né danno su tutto il mio monte santo», dice il Signore.
1I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that was not called by[1] my name. (Is 2,2; Is 18,7; Is 19,19; Is 19,25; Zac 14,16; Ro 10,20; Ef 2,12)2I spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; (Ro 10,21)3a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and making offerings on bricks; (Is 1,29; Is 57,3; Is 66,17)4who sit in tombs, and spend the night in secret places; who eat pig’s flesh, and broth of tainted meat is in their vessels; (Is 66,17)5who say, “Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.” These are a smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all the day. (Is 1,31; Is 9,18)6Behold, it is written before me: “I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will indeed repay into their lap (Sal 50,3; Sal 79,12; Ger 2,22; Ger 16,18; Ger 17,1)7both your iniquities and your fathers’ iniquities together, says the Lord; because they made offerings on the mountains and insulted me on the hills, I will measure into their lap payment for their former deeds.”[2] (Eso 20,5; Ez 20,27; Mat 23,35)8Thus says the Lord: “As the new wine is found in the cluster, and they say, ‘Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,’ so I will do for my servants’ sake, and not destroy them all. (Is 2,21; Is 17,6)9I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah possessors of my mountains; my chosen shall possess it, and my servants shall dwell there. (Is 27,6; Is 37,31)10Sharon shall become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, for my people who have sought me. (Gios 7,26; Is 33,9; Is 35,2; Is 51,1; Os 2,15)11But you who forsake the Lord, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Fortune and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny, (Gios 24,20; Is 65,25; Ez 23,41; Gioe 3,17; 1Co 10,21)12I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.” (Prov 1,24; Is 66,4; Ger 7,13)13Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be put to shame; (Sal 22,26; Is 55,1)14behold, my servants shall sing for gladness of heart, but you shall cry out for pain of heart and shall wail for breaking of spirit. (Sal 5,11)15You shall leave your name to my chosen for a curse, and the Lord God will put you to death, but his servants he will call by another name, (De 28,37; Is 62,2; Is 65,9; Ger 29,22; Zac 8,13)16so that he who blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of truth, and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my eyes. New Heavens and a New Earth
17“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. (Is 66,22; 2P 3,13; Ap 21,1)18But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. (Ger 31,7)19I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress. (Is 35,10; Is 62,5; Is 66,10; Ap 21,4)20No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed. (Prov 3,2; Ec 8,12)21They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. (De 28,30; Ez 28,26)22They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy[3] the work of their hands. (Sal 92,12; Is 65,21)23They shall not labor in vain or bear children for calamity,[4] for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord, and their descendants with them. (De 28,41; Sal 115,12; Is 49,4; Is 61,9)24Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. (Sal 32,5; Da 9,21)25The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the Lord. (Gen 3,14; Is 11,6; Is 11,9; Mi 7,17)
