Territorio toccato alla tribù di Giuda

1 La parte toccata in sorte alla tribù dei figli di Giuda, secondo le loro famiglie, si estendeva sino al confine di Edom, al deserto di Sin verso sud, all’estremità meridionale di Canaan. 2 Il loro confine meridionale partiva dall’estremità del mar Salato, dalla lingua che volge a sud, 3 e si prolungava a sud della salita di Acrabbim, passava per Sin, poi saliva al sud di Cades-Barnea, passava per Chesron, saliva verso Addar e si volgeva verso Carcaa; 4 passava quindi da Asmon e continuava fino al torrente d’Egitto, per terminare al mare. «Questo sarà», disse Giosuè, «il vostro confine meridionale». 5 Il confine orientale era il mar Salato, sino alla foce del Giordano. Il confine settentrionale partiva dal braccio di mare dov’è la foce del Giordano; 6 di là saliva verso Bet-Ogla, passava al nord di Bet-Araba, saliva fino al sasso di Boan, figlio di Ruben; 7 poi, partendo dalla valle di Acor, saliva a Debir e si dirigeva verso il nord dal lato di Ghilgal, che sta di fronte alla salita di Adummim, a sud del torrente; poi passava presso le acque di En-Semes, e faceva capo a En-Roghel. 8 Di là il confine saliva per la valle di Ben-Innom fino al versante meridionale del monte dei Gebusei, cioè Gerusalemme, poi saliva fino alla cima del monte che sta di fronte alla valle di Innom a occidente, e all’estremità della valle dei Refaim, al nord. 9 Dalla cima del monte, il confine si estendeva fino alla sorgente delle acque di Neftoa, continuava verso le città del monte Efron, e si prolungava fino a Baala, cioè Chiriat-Iearim. 10 Da Baala volgeva poi a occidente verso il monte Seir, passava per il versante settentrionale del monte Iearim, cioè Chesalon, scendeva a Bet-Semes e passava per Timna. 11 Di là il confine continuava verso il lato settentrionale di Ecron, si estendeva verso Sicron, passava per il monte Baala, si prolungava fino a Iabneel e terminava al mare. 12 Il confine occidentale era il mar Grande. Tali furono da tutti i lati i confini dei figli di Giuda, secondo le loro famiglie. 13 A Caleb, figlio di Gefunne, Giosuè diede una parte in mezzo ai figli di Giuda, come il Signore gli aveva comandato, cioè: la città di Arba, padre di Anac, la quale è Ebron. 14 E Caleb ne scacciò i tre figli di Anac: Sesai, Aiman e Talmai, discendenti di Anac. 15 Di là salì contro gli abitanti di Debir, che prima si chiamava Chiriat-Sefer. 16 E Caleb disse: «A chi batterà Chiriat-Sefer e la prenderà io darò in moglie mia figlia Acsa». 17 Allora Otniel figlio di Chenaz, fratello di Caleb, la conquistò, e Caleb gli diede in moglie sua figlia Acsa. 18 E quando lei venne a stare con lui, persuase Otniel a lasciarle chiedere un campo a Caleb, suo padre. Lei smontò dall’asino, e Caleb le disse: «Che vuoi?» 19 Quella rispose: «Fammi un dono; poiché tu m’hai stabilita in una terra arida, dammi anche delle sorgenti d’acqua». Ed egli le diede le sorgenti superiori e le sorgenti sottostanti. 20 Questa è l’eredità della tribù dei figli di Giuda, secondo le loro famiglie. 21 Le città poste all’estremità della tribù dei figli di Giuda, verso il confine di Edom, dal lato della regione meridionale, erano: Cabseel, Eder, Iagur, 22 China, Dimona, Adeada, 23 Chedes, Asor, Itnan, 24 Zif, Telem, Bealot, 25 Asor-Adatta, Cheriot-Chesron, cioè Asor, 26 Amam, Sema, Molada, 27 Asar-Gadda, Chesmon, Bet-Palet, 28 Asar-Sual, Beer-Sceba, Biziotia, 29 Baala, Iim, Asem, 30 Eltolad, Chesil, Corma, 31 Siclag, Madmanna, Sansanna, 32 Lebaot, Silim, Ain, Rimmon: in tutto ventinove città e i loro villaggi. 33 Nella regione bassa: Estaol, Sorea, Asna, 34 Zanoà, En-Gannim, Tappuà, Enam, 35 Iarmut, Adullam, Soco, Azeca, 36 Saaraim, Aditaim, Ghedera e Ghederotaim: quattordici città e i loro villaggi; 37 Senan, Cadasa, Migdal-Gad, 38 Dilean, Mispa, Iocteel, 39 Lachis, Boscat, Eglon, 40 Cabbon, Lamas, Chitlis, 41 Ghederot, Bet-Dagon, Naama e Maccheda: sedici città e i loro villaggi; 42 Libna, Eter, Asan, 43 Ifta, Asna, Nesib, 44 Cheila, Aczib e Maresa: nove città e i loro villaggi; 45 Ecron, le città del suo territorio e i suoi villaggi; 46 da Ecron e a occidente, tutte le città vicine ad Asdod e i loro villaggi; 47 Asdod, le città del suo territorio e i suoi villaggi; Gaza, le città del suo territorio e i suoi villaggi fino al torrente d’Egitto e al mar Grande, che serve di confine. 48 Nella regione montuosa: Sanoir, Iattir, Soco, 49 Danna, Chiriat-Sanna, cioè Debir, 50 Anab, Estemo, Anim, 51 Goscen, Colon e Ghilo: undici città e i loro villaggi; 52 Arab, Duma, Esean, 53 Ianum, Bet-Tappuà, Afeca, 54 Cumta, Chiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, e Sior: nove città e i loro villaggi; 55 Maon, Carmel, Zif, Iuta, 56 Izreel, Iocdeam, Zanoà, 57 Cain, Ghibea e Timna: dieci città e i loro villaggi; 58 Calul, Bet-Sur, Ghedor, 59 Maarat, Bet-Anot e Eltecon: sei città e i loro villaggi; 60 Chiriat-Baal, cioè Chiriat-Iearim, e Rabba: due città e i loro villaggi. 61 Nel deserto: Bet-Araba, Middin, Secacà, 62 Nibsan, Ir-Ammelà e En-Ghedi: sei città e i loro villaggi. 63 Quanto ai Gebusei che abitavano in Gerusalemme, i figli di Giuda non riuscirono a scacciarli; e i Gebusei hanno abitato con i figli di Giuda in Gerusalemme fino a oggi.

The Allotment for Judah

1 The allotment for the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans reached southward to the boundary of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin at the farthest south. (Nu 33,36; Nu 34,3) 2 And their south boundary ran from the end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces southward. (Gios 15,1) 3 It goes out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, and goes up south of Kadesh-barnea, along by Hezron, up to Addar, turns about to Karka, (Nu 34,4; Giudic 1,36) 4 passes along to Azmon, goes out by the Brook of Egypt, and comes to its end at the sea. This shall be your south boundary. (Nu 34,5; Gios 13,3; Gios 15,47) 5 And the east boundary is the Salt Sea, to the mouth of the Jordan. And the boundary on the north side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. (Gios 15,1) 6 And the boundary goes up to Beth-hoglah and passes along north of Beth-arabah. 7 And the boundary goes up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley. And the boundary passes along to the waters of En-shemesh and ends at En-rogel. (Gios 7,26; Gios 18,16; Gios 18,17; 2Sam 17,17; 1Re 1,9)

8 Then the boundary goes up by the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the southern shoulder of the Jebusite (that is, Jerusalem). And the boundary goes up to the top of the mountain that lies over against the Valley of Hinnom, on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. 9 Then the boundary extends from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and from there to the cities of Mount Ephron. Then the boundary bends around to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim). (Gios 15,60; Gios 18,15; 1Cr 13,6) 10 And the boundary circles west of Baalah to Mount Seir, passes along to the northern shoulder of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), and goes down to Beth-shemesh and passes along by Timnah. 11 The boundary goes out to the shoulder of the hill north of Ekron, then the boundary bends around to Shikkeron and passes along to Mount Baalah and goes out to Jabneel. Then the boundary comes to an end at the sea. (Gios 13,3; Gios 15,9) 12 And the west boundary was the Great Sea with its coastline. This is the boundary around the people of Judah according to their clans. (Nu 34,6; Gios 15,47; Gios 23,4; Ez 47,20)

13 According to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the people of Judah, Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). (Gios 14,13; Gios 15,54) 14 And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.
