Lode a Dio per la bellezza del creato

1 Anima mia, benedici il Signore! Signore, mio Dio, tu sei veramente grande; sei vestito di splendore e di maestà. 2 Egli si avvolge di luce come di una veste; stende i cieli come una tenda; 3 egli costruisce le sue alte stanze sulle acque; fa delle nuvole il suo carro, avanza sulle ali del vento; 4 fa dei venti i suoi messaggeri, delle fiamme di fuoco i suoi ministri. 5 Egli ha fondato la terra sulle sue basi: essa non vacillerà mai. 6 Tu l’avevi coperta dell’oceano come di una veste, le acque si erano fermate sui monti. 7 Alla tua minaccia esse si ritirarono, al fragore del tuo tuono fuggirono spaventate, 8 scavalcarono i monti, discesero per le vallate fino al luogo che tu avevi fissato per loro. 9 Tu hai posto alle acque un limite che non oltrepasseranno; esse non torneranno a coprire la terra. 10 Egli fa scaturire fonti nelle valli ed esse scorrono tra le montagne; 11 abbeverano tutte le bestie della campagna, gli asini selvatici vi si dissetano. 12 Vicino a loro si posano gli uccelli del cielo; tra le fronde fanno udire la loro voce. 13 Egli annaffia i monti dall’alto delle sue stanze; la terra è saziata con il frutto delle tue opere. 14 Egli fa germogliare l’erba per il bestiame, le piante per il servizio dell’uomo; fa uscire dalla terra il nutrimento: 15 il vino che rallegra il cuore dell’uomo, l’olio che gli fa risplendere il volto e il pane che sostenta il cuore dei mortali. 16 Si saziano gli alberi del Signore, i cedri del Libano che egli ha piantati. 17 Gli uccelli vi fanno i loro nidi; la cicogna fa dei cipressi la sua dimora; 18 le alte montagne sono per i camosci, le rocce sono rifugio per gli iraci. 19 Egli ha fatto la luna per stabilire le stagioni; il sole conosce l’ora del suo tramonto. 20 Tu mandi le tenebre e si fa notte; in essa si muovono tutte le bestie della foresta. 21 I leoncelli ruggiscono in cerca di preda e chiedono a Dio il loro cibo. 22 Sorge il sole ed essi rientrano, si accovacciano nelle loro tane. 23 L’uomo esce all’opera sua e al suo lavoro fino alla sera. 24 Quanto sono numerose le tue opere, Signore! Tu le hai fatte tutte con sapienza; la terra è piena delle tue ricchezze. 25 Ecco il mare, grande e immenso, dove si muovono creature innumerevoli, animali piccoli e grandi. 26 Là viaggiano le navi e là nuota il leviatano^[1], che hai creato perché vi si diverta. 27 Tutti quanti sperano in te perché tu dia loro il cibo a suo tempo. 28 Tu lo dai loro ed essi lo raccolgono; tu apri la mano e sono saziati di beni. 29 Tu nascondi la tua faccia e sono smarriti; tu ritiri il loro fiato e muoiono, ritornano nella loro polvere. 30 Tu mandi il tuo Spirito e sono creati, e tu rinnovi la faccia della terra. 31 Duri per sempre la gloria del Signore, gioisca il Signore delle sue opere! 32 Egli guarda la terra ed essa trema; egli tocca i monti ed essi fumano. 33 Canterò al Signore finché avrò vita; salmeggerò al mio Dio finché esisterò. 34 Possa la mia meditazione essergli gradita! Io esulterò nel Signore. 35 Spariscano i peccatori dalla terra, e gli empi non siano più! Anima mia, benedici il Signore. Alleluia^[2].

2 ⟨Du,⟩ der in Licht sich hüllt wie in ein Gewand, der den Himmel ausspannt gleich einer Zeltdecke, (Is 40,22; 1G 1,5) 3 der seine Obergemächer errichtet in den Wassern^[1], der Wolken macht zu seinem Wagen, der einherzieht auf den Flügeln des Windes, (De 33,26; Sal 18,11; Sal 148,4; Is 19,1; Am 9,6)

4 der Winde zu seinen Boten macht, Feuer und Lohe zu seinen Dienern: (Eb 1,7) 5 Er hat die Erde gegründet auf ihre Grundfesten. Sie wird nicht wanken immer und ewig. (Sal 119,90; Prov 8,29; Ec 1,4) 6 Die Flut^[2] bedeckte sie^[3] wie ein Kleid, das Wasser stand über den Bergen. 7 Vor deinem Schelten floh es, vor dem Schall deines Donners wurde es fortgetrieben. 8 Die Berge erhoben sich, es senkten sich die Täler an den Ort, den du ihnen bestimmt hattest. (Prov 8,25) 9 Du hast eine Grenze gesetzt, die überschreitet es nicht. Es wird nicht zurückkehren, die Erde zu bedecken. 10 ⟨Du,⟩ der Quellen entsendet in die Täler: Zwischen den Bergen fließen sie dahin. (De 8,7) 11 Sie tränken alle Tiere des Feldes, die Wildesel stillen ihren Durst. 12 An ihnen^[4] wohnen die Vögel des Himmels, aus dichtem Laub lassen sie ihre Stimme erschallen. 13 ⟨Du,⟩ der die Berge tränkt aus seinen Obergemächern: von der Frucht deiner Werke wird die Erde gesättigt. (Sal 65,10; Ger 10,13) 14 Der Gras hervorsprossen lässt für das Vieh und Pflanzen zum Dienst des Menschen, damit er Brot hervorbringe aus der Erde (Gen 1,12; Gen 1,29; Sal 147,8; Mar 4,28; Giac 5,18)

16 Es werden gesättigt die Bäume des HERRN, die Zedern des Libanon, die er gepflanzt hat, (Nu 24,6) 17 wo die Vögel nisten; der Storch – Wacholderbäume sind sein Nest^[5]. (Ez 31,6) 18 Die hohen Berge sind für die Steinböcke, die Felsen eine Zuflucht für die Klippdachse. (Prov 30,26) 19 Er hat den Mond gemacht zur Zeitbestimmung^[6], die Sonne kennt ihren Untergang. 20 Du bestellst Finsternis, und es wird Nacht. In ihr regen sich alle Tiere des Waldes.
