1 Tessalonicesi 4

(1Te 5,11)

English Standard Version

1 Finally, then, brothers,[1] we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. (Ef 4,1; Fili 4,9; Col 1,10; Col 2,6; 1Te 3,12)2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. (1Co 11,2)3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification:[2] that you abstain from sexual immorality; (Ro 6,19; Ro 6,22; 1Co 1,30; 1Co 6,18; 2Te 2,13; 1Ti 2,15; Eb 12,14; 1P 1,2)4 that each one of you know how to control his own body[3] in holiness and honor, (Ro 1,24; 2Co 4,7; 1P 3,7)5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; (Sal 79,6; Ger 9,3; Ger 10,25; Ro 1,26; Ga 4,8; Ef 4,17)6 that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. (Ro 12,19; Ro 13,4; 1Co 6,8; Eb 13,4)7 For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. (1Te 2,3; 1Te 4,3; 1P 1,15)8 Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. (1Te 2,13; 1G 3,24; 1G 4,13)9 Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, (Giov 6,45; Giov 13,34; 1Te 5,1; Eb 13,1; 1G 2,27)10 for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, (1Te 1,7; 1Te 3,12)11 and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, (Prov 17,14; Prov 20,3; Prov 25,8; At 18,3; 2Te 3,11; 2Te 3,12; 1P 4,15)12 so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one. (Mar 4,11; Ro 13,13; Col 4,5)13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. (Le 19,28; De 14,1; 2Sam 12,20; Mar 5,39; Ef 2,12)14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. (1Co 15,13; 1Co 15,18; 2Co 4,14; Ap 1,18)15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord,[4] that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. (1Re 13,17; 1Co 15,51; 1Te 2,19)16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. (Gioe 2,11; Mat 16,27; Mat 24,31; 1Co 15,23; 1Co 15,52; 2Te 1,7; 2Te 2,1; Giuda 1,9; Ap 14,13)17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. (Da 7,13; Giov 12,26; At 1,9; 2Co 12,2; Ap 11,12)18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

King James Version

1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
