1Všetko, čo robíte, konajte podľa Božieho vzoru, tak ako milované dieťa napodobňuje svojho otca.2Milujte sa navzájom tak, ako Kristus miloval vás. Z lásky k nám dal dobrovoľne za nás svoj život, priniesol obeť, ktorej vôňa je Bohu príjemná.3Pohlavná neviazanosť, nečistota a chamtivosť nech sa medzi vami ani len nespomínajú, ako sa sluší na Božie deti.4Takisto oplzlé vtipy, vulgárne reči a dvojzmyselné historky kresťanovi nepristanú – naše ústa majú chváliť Boha.5Pamätajte na to, že do nového sveta, kde vládne Boh, nevstúpi nijaký skazený a zvrhlý človek, ba ani lakomec, ktorý je vo svojej podstate modlár, lebo dáva veciam prednosť pred Bohom.6Nedajte sa oklamať tými, ktorí sa usilujú ospravedlniť tieto hriechy. Boží hnev proti ľuďom tohto druhu je a bude hrozný.7Radšej sa s nimi ani nestýkajte.8Kedysi vládla aj vo vašom srdci tma, ale teraz tam žiari Božie svetlo a vaše správanie ho musí odzrkadľovať.9Toto svetlo vás predsa vedie k dobrote, spravodlivosti a pravde.10Skúmajte, čo sa páči Pánovi.11Nezúčastňujte sa na činoch splodených tmou, naopak, pranierujte ich.12Veď je hanbou aj hovoriť, čo všetko sa pácha potajme.13Ale keď sa na tieto veci posvieti, zjaví sa ich pravá podstata.14Preto Boh hovorí v Písme: „Prebuď sa ty, kto spíš, vstaň z mŕtvych a zažiari ti Kristus.“15Dávajte teda dobrý pozor na to, ako žijete. Nebuďte ľahkomyseľní, ale múdri.16Využite každú príležitosť, keď môžete niečo dobré vykonať. Časy sú veľmi vážne,17preto nekonajte bezmyšlienkovite, ale usilujte sa vo všetkom rozpoznať Božiu vôľu a plniť ju.18Neholdujte alkoholu, lebo vedie k rozpustilosti, radšej sa dajte naplniť Svätým Duchom a ním sa viesť.19Medzi sebou veľa hovorte o Pánovi, spievajte žalmy, chválospevy a duchovné piesne. Nech vám aj v srdci zaznieva vďačná pieseň Pánovi20a za všetko neprestajne ďakujte nášmu Bohu a Otcovi v mene nášho Pána Ježiša Krista.
Pokyny pre šťastnú rodinu
21Podriaďujte sa jeden druhému, tým vzdáte česť Kristovi.22Manželky, podriaďujte sa svojim mužom, akoby ste sa podriaďovali Pánovi.23Lebo muž je zodpovedný za svoju ženu takisto, ako je Kristus zodpovedný za svoje telo –24cirkev, za ktorú umrel, aby ju zachránil. Preto má žena svojho muža poslúchať, ako cirkev poslúcha Krista.25A vy, manželia, milujte svoje ženy takisto, ako Kristus miloval svoju cirkev, keď pre ňu obetoval svoj život,26aby ju posvätil a očistil Božím slovom a vodou pri krste.27Takto si pripravil pre seba cirkev slávnu, bez poškvrny či iného kazu, svätú a dokonalú.28Tak by mal zaobchádzať aj muž so svojou manželkou a mal by ju milovať ako seba samého. Keďže obaja tvoria jednu bytosť, preukazuje milujúci manžel vlastne lásku sám sebe.29Nikto predsa nemá v nenávisti vlastné telo, ale s láskou sa oň stará, práve tak ako sa Kristus stará o telo cirkvi,30ktorej sme časťami.31Písmo jasne hovorí, že muž a jeho manželka tvoria jedno telo: „Preto muž, keď sa ožení, odíde od svojho otca a matky, pripojí sa k svojej žene a stanú sa jednou bytosťou.“32Toto tajomstvo sa dá ťažko pochopiť, ale ukazuje, že aj my sme časťami Kristovho tela.33Preto znova opakujem: muž má milovať svoju ženu ako seba samého a žena si má svojho muža ctiť a vážiť.
1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. (Mt 5,7; Mt 5,48; Lk 6,36; Ef 4,32)2And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Gn 8,21; Jn 13,34; Rim 4,25; Rim 8,37; Rim 14,15; Kol 3,14; Hebr 7,27; Hebr 9,14; Hebr 10,10; Hebr 10,12)3But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Walk as children of light (Iz 2,5; Lk 16,8; Jn 12,35; Sk 26,18; Ef 2,1)9(for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), (Rim 7,4; Gal 5,22)10and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. (1 Sol 2,4; 1 Sol 5,21)11Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. (Lv 19,17; Rim 6,21; Rim 13,12; 1 Kor 5,9; 1 Tim 5,20)12For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. (Ef 5,3)13But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, (Jn 3,20; Ef 5,9)14for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Iz 26,19; Iz 51,17; Iz 52,1; Iz 60,1; Mal 4,2; Lk 1,78; Rim 13,11)15Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, (Prís 15,21; Kol 4,5)16making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Wives and Husbands
22Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. (Gn 3,16; Ef 6,5; Kol 3,18)23For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. (1 Kor 6,13; 1 Kor 11,3; Ef 1,22)24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. (Kol 3,20; Kol 3,22; Tit 2,9)25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, (Ef 5,2; Ef 5,28; Ef 5,33; 1 Pt 3,7)26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, (Jn 15,3; Ef 6,17; Tit 3,5; Hebr 6,5; Zjv 7,14)27so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.[1] (Pies 4,7; 2 Kor 11,2; Ef 1,4)28In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Ef 5,25; Ef 5,33)29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,30because we are members of his body. (Gn 2,23; 1 Kor 6,15)31“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” (Gn 2,24; Mt 19,5; Mk 10,7; 1 Kor 6,16)32This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.33However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. (Ef 5,25; Ef 5,28; 1 Pt 3,2; 1 Pt 3,6)
