Die Versuchung

1 Vom Heiligen Geist erfüllt, verließ Jesus den Jordan. Der Geist brachte ihn in die Wüste, (Jes 11,2; Jes 61,1) 2 wo der Teufel ihn vierzig Tage lang in Versuchung führte. Während dieser ganzen Zeit aß er nichts, sodass er schließlich sehr hungrig war. (2Mo 34,28; 1Kön 19,8; Hebr 4,15) 3 Da sagte der Teufel zu ihm: »Wenn du der Sohn Gottes bist, verwandle doch diesen Stein in Brot.« 4 Aber Jesus erwiderte: »Nein! In der Schrift steht: ›Der Mensch braucht mehr als nur Brot zum Leben.‹^[1]« (5Mo 8,1) 5 Da führte der Teufel ihn auf die Höhe und zeigte ihm alle Königreiche der Welt in einem Augenblick. 6 Und er sagte zu ihm: »Ich will dir Macht über diese Länder und all ihre Reichtümer geben, denn ich verfüge über sie und kann sie geben, wem ich will. 7 Das alles werde ich dir schenken, wenn du niederkniest und mich anbetest.« 8 Jesus erwiderte: »In der Schrift steht: ›Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, anbeten und nur ihm allein dienen.‹^[2]« (5Mo 6,1) 9 Da versetzte der Teufel ihn nach Jerusalem auf den höchsten Punkt des Tempels und sagte: »Wenn du der Sohn Gottes bist, spring hier hinunter! 10 Denn in der Schrift steht: ›Er befiehlt seinen Engeln, dich zu beschützen und zu bewahren. (5Mo 6,1) 11 Sie werden dich auf ihren Händen tragen, damit deine Füße niemals stolpern.‹^[3]« 12 Jesus erwiderte: »In der Schrift steht auch: ›Fordere den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht heraus.‹^[4]« 13 Als der Teufel aufgehört hatte, Jesus zu versuchen, verließ er ihn für einige Zeit^[5]. Jesus wird in Nazareth abgelehnt

14 Danach kehrte Jesus, von der Kraft des Heiligen Geistes erfüllt, nach Galiläa zurück. Schnell wurde er in der ganzen Gegend bekannt. 15 Er lehrte in ihren Synagogen und wurde von allen verehrt. 16 Als er nach Nazareth kam, wo er seine Kindheit verbracht hatte, ging er wie gewohnt am Sabbat in die Synagoge und stand auf, um aus der Schrift vorzulesen. 17 Man reichte ihm die Schriftrolle des Propheten Jesaja, und als er sie aufrollte, fand er die Stelle, an der steht: 18 »Der Geist des Herrn ruht auf mir, denn er hat mich gesalbt, um den Armen die gute Botschaft zu verkünden. Er hat mich gesandt, Gefangenen zu verkünden, dass sie freigelassen werden, Blinden, dass sie sehen werden, Unterdrückten, dass sie befreit werden (Jes 61,1) 19 und dass die Zeit der Gnade des Herrn gekommen ist.^[6]« (3Mo 25,8; 2Kor 6,2) 20 Er rollte die Schriftrolle zusammen, gab sie dem Synagogendiener zurück und setzte sich. Alle in der Synagoge sahen ihn an. 21 Und er sagte: »Heute ist dieses Wort vor euren Augen und Ohren Wirklichkeit geworden!« 22 Alle Anwesenden äußerten sich anerkennend über ihn und wunderten sich zugleich über seine Botschaft von der Gnade. »Wie kann das sein?«, fragten sie. »Ist das nicht Josefs Sohn?« (Lk 2,47; Joh 6,42; Joh 7,15) 23 Da sagte er: »Bestimmt werdet ihr mir das Sprichwort vorhalten: ›Arzt, hilf dir selbst‹ – und damit meinen: ›Warum tust du hier in deiner Heimatstadt keine Wunder wie in Kapernaum?‹ (Mt 4,13; Mt 11,23; Mk 1,21; Mk 2,1)

24 Wahrhaftig, kein Prophet gilt etwas in seiner Heimatstadt. (Mt 13,57; Mk 6,4; Joh 4,44) 25 Zur Zeit Elias gab es in Israel bestimmt viele hilfsbedürftige Witwen, als es dreieinhalb Jahre lang nicht regnete und Hunger im Land herrschte. (1Kön 17,1; 1Kön 18,1; Jak 5,17) 26 Dennoch wurde Elia zu keiner von ihnen geschickt, sondern nur zu einer Witwe aus Sarepta – einer Fremden im Gebiet von Sidon. 27 Oder denkt an den Propheten Elisa, der den Syrer Naaman heilte und nicht die vielen Aussätzigen in Israel.« (2Kön 5,1) 28 Als die Leute in der Synagoge das hörten, wurden sie zornig. 29 Sie sprangen auf und trieben ihn hinaus an einen steilen Abhang des Berges, auf dem die Stadt erbaut war. Sie wollten ihn hinunterstürzen, (4Mo 15,35; Apg 7,58; Hebr 13,12) 30 doch er schritt mitten durch sie hindurch und ging fort. (Joh 8,59)

Jesus treibt einen Dämon aus

31 Danach zog Jesus nach Kapernaum in Galiläa und lehrte dort jeden Sabbat in der Synagoge. (Mt 4,13; Joh 2,12) 32 Auch hier waren die Leute von seiner Lehre überwältigt, denn er sprach mit Vollmacht. (Mt 7,28; Joh 7,46) 33 Einmal, als er in der Synagoge war, fing ein Mann, der von einem Dämon besessen war, an zu schreien: 34 »Was willst du von uns, Jesus von Nazareth? Bist du gekommen, um uns zu vernichten? Ich weiß, wer du bist – der Heilige Gottes, den er gesandt hat.« (Lk 4,41; Joh 6,69) 35 »Sei still!«, gebot Jesus dem Dämon. »Fahre aus dem Mann aus!« Der Dämon warf den Mann vor den Augen der Menge zu Boden; dann fuhr er aus ihm aus, ohne ihn weiter zu verletzen. (Lk 4,39) 36 Voll Staunen riefen die Leute: »Welche Vollmacht und Kraft in den Worten dieses Mannes liegen! Selbst böse Geister gehorchen ihm und weichen, wenn er es befiehlt!« 37 Diese Geschichte von Jesus sprach sich in kürzester Zeit in der ganzen Gegend herum.

Jesus heilt viele Menschen

38 Nachdem Jesus die Synagoge an jenem Tag verlassen hatte, ging er zum Haus Simons und fand dort Simons Schwiegermutter mit hohem Fieber vor. Da bat man Jesus, ihr zu helfen. 39 Er stellte sich neben ihr Bett, befahl dem Fieber zu weichen, und augenblicklich fiel das Fieber. Sofort stand sie auf und machte ihnen etwas zu essen. 40 Als die Sonne an diesem Abend unterging, brachten die Dorfbewohner ihre kranken Angehörigen zu Jesus. Welche Krankheiten sie auch hatten: Er legte jedem Einzelnen die Hände auf und heilte sie alle. (Mt 8,16; Mk 1,32) 41 Viele waren auch von Dämonen besessen; diese fuhren aus den Menschen aus und schrien dabei: »Du bist der Sohn Gottes.« Doch weil sie wussten, dass er der Christus war, verbot Jesus ihnen zu reden. (Mk 3,11)

Jesus predigt weiter

42 Früh am nächsten Morgen ging Jesus an einen einsamen Ort. Die Menschen suchten ihn überall. Als sie ihn schließlich fanden, baten sie ihn, sie nicht zu verlassen. (Mt 4,23) 43 Doch er erwiderte: »Ich muss die Botschaft vom Reich Gottes auch an anderen Orten verkünden, denn dazu bin ich gesandt worden.« (Lk 8,1) 44 Und so zog er weiter umher und predigte überall in Judäa in den Synagogen.^[7] (Mt 4,23; Mk 1,39)

Jesus is tempted in the desert

1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the River Jordan. The Spirit led him into the desert. 2 There the devil tempted him for 40 days. Jesus ate nothing during that time. At the end of the 40 days, he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.’ 4 Jesus answered, ‘It is written, “Man must not live only on bread.” ’ (5Mo 8,3) 5 Then the devil led Jesus up to a high place. In an instant, he showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world. 6 He said to Jesus, ‘I will give you all their authority and glory. It has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.’ 8 Jesus answered, ‘It is written, “Worship the Lord your God. He is the only one you should serve.” ’ (5Mo 6,13) 9 Then the devil led Jesus to Jerusalem. He had Jesus stand on the highest point of the temple. ‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down from here. 10 It is written, ‘ “The Lord will command his angels to take good care of you. 11 They will lift you up in their hands. Then you won’t trip over a stone.” ’ (Ps 91,11; Ps 91,12) 12 Jesus answered, ‘Scripture says, “Do not test the Lord your God.” ’ (5Mo 6,16) 13 When the devil finished all this tempting, he left Jesus until a better time.

Jesus is not accepted in Nazareth

14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit. News about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. 16 Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. On the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue as he usually did. He stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. Jesus unrolled it and found the right place. There it is written, 18 ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to announce the good news to poor people. He has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent me so that the blind will see again. He wants me to set free those who are treated badly. 19 And he has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free.’ (Jes 61,1; Jes 61,2) 20 Then Jesus rolled up the scroll. He gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were staring at him. 21 He began by saying to them, ‘Today this passage of Scripture is coming true as you listen.’ 22 Everyone said good things about him. They were amazed at the gracious words they heard from his lips. ‘Isn’t this Joseph’s son?’ they asked. 23 Jesus said, ‘Here is a saying you will certainly apply to me. “Doctor, heal yourself!” And you will tell me this. “Do the things here in your home town that we heard you did in Capernaum.” ’ 24 ‘What I’m about to tell you is true,’ he continued. ‘A prophet is not accepted in his home town. 25 I tell you for sure that there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah. And there had been no rain for three and a half years. There wasn’t enough food to eat anywhere in the land. 26 But Elijah was not sent to any of those widows. Instead, he was sent to a widow in Zarephath near Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel who had skin diseases in the days of Elisha the prophet. But not one of them was healed except Naaman the Syrian.’ 28 All the people in the synagogue were very angry when they heard that. 29 They got up and ran Jesus out of town. They took him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They planned to throw him off the cliff. 30 But Jesus walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

Jesus drives out an evil spirit

31 Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee. On the Sabbath day he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man controlled by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice. 34 ‘Go away!’ he said. ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!’ 35 ‘Be quiet!’ Jesus said firmly. ‘Come out of him!’ Then the demon threw the man down in front of everybody. And it came out without hurting him. 36 All the people were amazed. They said to each other, ‘What he says is amazing! With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits. And they come out!’ 37 The news about Jesus spread throughout the whole area.

Jesus heals many people

38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. At that time, Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. So they asked Jesus to help her. 39 He bent over her and commanded the fever to leave, and it left her. She got up right away and began to serve them. 40 At sunset, people brought to Jesus all who were ill. He placed his hands on each one and healed them. 41 Also, demons came out of many people. The demons shouted, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But he commanded them to be quiet. He would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah. 42 At dawn, Jesus went out to a place where he could be by himself. The people went to look for him. When they found him, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, ‘I must announce the good news of God’s kingdom to the other towns also. That is why I was sent.’ 44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
