(1Mo 1,1; Ps 102,25; Spr 8,22)3Du machst die Menschen wieder zu Staub, indem du sprichst: »Werdet zu Staub!« (Hi 34,14)4Denn für dich sind tausend Jahre wie der gestern vergangene Tag, wie wenige Stunden nur! (Ps 39,6; 2Petr 3,8)5Du wischst die Menschen fort wie ein Traum, der am Morgen verschwindet, wie Gras, das in der Frühe wächst. (Hi 14,2; Hi 20,8; Jes 40,6; Mt 6,30)6Am Morgen grünt und blüht es, aber am Abend ist es welk und trocken. (Ps 92,8)7So vergehen wir durch deinen Zorn, und durch deine Wut werden wir überwältigt.8Denn du siehst unsere Sünden, auch unsere geheimsten Vergehen deckst du auf.9Unter deinem Zorn verrinnt unser Leben, schnell wie ein Seufzer vergeht es. (Ps 78,33)10Unser Leben dauert siebzig Jahre, vielleicht sogar achtzig Jahre. Doch selbst noch die besten Jahre sind voller Kummer und Schmerz, wie schnell ziehen die Jahre vorüber und alles ist vorbei. (Ps 78,39; Pred 12,2)11Wer kann deinen gewaltigen Zorn begreifen? Wer fürchtet sich schon vor deiner Wut? (Ps 76,8)12Lehre uns, unsere Zeit zu nutzen, damit wir weise werden. (Ps 39,5)13HERR, wende dich doch wieder uns zu! Warum zögerst du noch? Erbarme dich über die, die dir dienen! (5Mo 32,36)14Überschütte uns schon am Morgen mit deiner Gnade, dann werden wir singen und fröhlich sein bis ans Ende unserer Tage. (Ps 36,9; Ps 103,5; Jer 31,14)15Schenke uns so viel Glück, wie du uns zuvor Elend geschickt hast! Gib uns jetzt genauso viele Jahre der Freude. (Ps 31,11; Ps 86,4)16Zeige uns, wie wunderbar du handelst, und lass unsere Kinder deine Herrlichkeit sehen. (Ps 44,2)17Der HERR, unser Gott, schaue freundlich auf uns und lasse unsere Arbeit gelingen. Ja, lass unsere Arbeit gelingen! (Ps 27,4; Jes 26,12)
1Lord, from the very beginning you have been like a home to us.2Before you created the whole world and the mountains were made, from the beginning to the end you are God.3You turn human beings back to dust. You say to them, ‘Return to dust.’4To you a thousand years are like a day that has just gone by. They are like a few hours of the night.5Yet you sweep people away, and they die. They are like new grass that grows in the morning.6In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it’s all dried up.7Your anger destroys us. Your burning anger terrifies us.8You have put our sins right in front of you. You have placed our secret sins where you can see them clearly.9You have been angry with us all of our days. We groan as we come to the end of our lives.10We live to be about 70. Or we may live to be 80, if we stay healthy. But even our best days are filled with trouble and sorrow. The years quickly pass, and we are gone.11If only we knew the power of your anger! It’s as great as the respect we should have for you.12Teach us to realise how short our lives are. Then our hearts will become wise.13LORD, please stop punishing us! How long will you keep it up? Be kind to us.14Satisfy us with your faithful love every morning. Then we can sing for joy and be glad all our days.15Make us glad for as many days as you have made us suffer. Give us joy for as many years as we’ve had trouble.16Show us your mighty acts. Let our children see your glorious power.17May the Lord our God always be pleased with us. Lord, make what we do succeed. Please make what we do succeed.
