A song for those who go up to Jerusalem to worship the Lord. A psalm of David.
1I was very glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go up to the house of the LORD.’2Jerusalem, our feet are standing inside your gates.3Jerusalem is built like a city where everything is close together.4The tribes of the LORD go there to praise his name. They do it in keeping with the law he gave to Israel.5The thrones of the family line of David are there. That’s where the people are judged.6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Say, ‘May those who love you be secure.7May there be peace inside your walls. May your people be kept safe.’8I’m concerned for my family and friends. So I say to Jerusalem, ‘May you enjoy peace.’9I’m concerned about the house of the LORD our God. So I pray that things will go well with Jerusalem.
1A Song of Ascents. Of David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” (Ps 120,1; Jes 2,3; Mi 4,2; Sach 8,21)2Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!3Jerusalem—built as a city that is bound firmly together, (Neh 4,6; Ps 147,2)4to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed for[1] Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord. (5Mo 16,16; Ps 78,5)5There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David. (5Mo 17,8; 2Sam 15,2; 1Kön 3,16; 1Kön 7,7; 2Chr 19,8)6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! (Ps 51,18; Jer 29,7)7Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” (Ps 48,13)8For my brothers and companions’ sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” (1Sam 25,6; Ps 85,8)9For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good. (Neh 2,10; Est 10,3)
