1‘Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.2For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.3“Why have we fasted,” they say, “and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?” ‘Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.4Your fasting ends in quarrelling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.5Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to humble themselves? Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed and for lying in sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?6‘Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?7Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?8Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness[1] will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.9Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: here am I. ‘If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,10and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.11The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.12Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.13‘If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honourable, and if you honour it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,14then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.’ For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

(Eze 16:2; Mic 3:8)2Tag für Tag suchen sie mich, und es gefällt ihnen, meine Wege zu erkennen. Wie eine Nation, die Gerechtigkeit übt und das Recht ihres Gottes nicht verlassen hat, fragen sie mich nach den Satzungen der Gerechtigkeit, es gefällt ihnen, wenn Gott sich nähert.3Warum haben wir gefastet, und du hast es nicht gesehen, haben wir uns gedemütigt, und du weisst nichts davon? Seht, an eurem Fastentag geht ihr anderen Dingen nach, und alle eure Arbeiter treibt ihr an. (Jer 14:12)4Seht, ihr fastet so, dass es zu Streit kommt und zu Zank und dass man zuschlägt mit der Faust des Unrechts. Ihr fastet heute nicht so, dass ihr eure Stimme in der Höhe zu Gehör bringt.5Soll das ein Fasten sein, wie ich es will: Ein Tag, an dem der Mensch sich demütigt? Soll man seinen Kopf hängen lassen wie die Binse und sich in Sack und Asche betten? Soll man das ein Fasten nennen und einen Tag, dem HERRN wohlgefällig? (Mt 6:16)6Ist nicht dies ein Fasten, wie ich es will: Ungerechte Fesseln öffnen, die Stricke der Jochstange lösen und Misshandelte freilassen und dass ihr jedes Joch zerbrecht?7Bedeutet es nicht, dem Hungrigen dein Brot zu brechen und dass du Arme, Obdachlose ins Haus bringst? Wenn du einen Nackten siehst, dann bedeck ihn, und deinen Brüdern[1] sollst du dich nicht entziehen! (De 15:11; Job 31:19; Eze 18:7; Mt 25:35)8Dann wird dein Licht hervorbrechen wie das Morgenrot, und rasch wird deine Heilung gedeihen, vor dir her zieht deine Gerechtigkeit, und deine Nachhut ist die Herrlichkeit des HERRN. (Job 11:17; Ps 37:6; Ps 62:1; Isa 58:10)9Dann wirst du rufen, und der HERR wird antworten, du wirst um Hilfe rufen, und er wird sprechen: Sieh, hier bin ich! Wenn du aus deiner Mitte das Joch entfernst, das Zeigen mit dem Finger und die unrechte Rede (Isa 30:19)10und dem Hungrigen gewährst, was du selbst zum Leben brauchst, und satt machst den, der gedemütigt ist, dann wird dein Licht aufstrahlen in der Finsternis, und deine Dunkelheit wird sein wie der Mittag. (Isa 58:8)11Und allezeit wird der HERR dich leiten, und in dürrem Land macht er dich satt, und deine Knochen macht er stark. Und du wirst sein wie ein bewässerter Garten und wie eine Wasserquelle, deren Wasser nicht trügen. (Isa 57:18; Jer 31:12)12Und die von dir abstammen, werden die uralten Trümmerstätten aufbauen, die Grundmauern vergangener Generationen wirst du aufrichten. Und du wirst Der-die-Bresche-zumauert genannt werden, Der-Pfade-wieder-herstellt-damit-man-wohnen-kann. (Ezr 9:9; Ne 3:34; Isa 61:4)13Wenn du am Sabbat deinen Fuss zurückhältst, deine Dinge nicht erledigst an meinem heiligen Tag und den Sabbat eine Lust, das Heilige des HERRN ehrwürdig nennst, und ihn ehrst und nicht deine Gänge machst, deinen Dingen nicht nachgehst und keine Worte machst, (Isa 56:2)14dann wirst du deine Freude haben am HERRN, und ich werde dich einherfahren lassen über die Höhen der Erde, und den Erbbesitz Jakobs, deines Vaters, werde ich dich geniessen lassen. Der Mund des HERRN hat gesprochen! (De 1:20; De 32:13; Job 22:26; Ps 37:4)
