1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[1] free from the law of sin and death.3For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh,[2] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering.[3] And so he condemned sin in the flesh,4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.5Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.7The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.8Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.9You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.10But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[4] because of righteousness.11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[5] his Spirit who lives in you.12Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation – but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.13For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[6] And by him we cry, ‘Abba,[7] Father.’16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.17Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Present suffering and future glory
18I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.19For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.20For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope21that[8] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.22We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.24For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?25But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[9] have been called according to his purpose.29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
More than conquerors
31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.34Who then is the one who condemns? No-one. Christ Jesus who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?36As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ (Ps 44:22)37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[10] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1Așadar, acum nu mai este nicio condamnare pentru cei ce sunt în Cristos Isus care nu umblă potrivit firii, ci potrivit Duhului.2Într-adevăr, legea Duhului vieții în Cristos Isus te‑a[1] eliberat de legea păcatului și a morții.3Căci Dumnezeu a înfăptuit ceea ce era imposibil pentru Lege, întrucât aceasta era neputincioasă din cauza firii. Trimițându‑L pe Însuși Fiul Său în asemănarea firii păcătoase și din cauza păcatului, El a condamnat păcatul în fire,4astfel încât cerința dreaptă a Legii să fie împlinită în noi, care umblăm nu potrivit firii, ci potrivit Duhului.5Într-adevăr, cei ce trăiesc potrivit firii se gândesc la lucrurile firii, însă cei ce trăiesc potrivit Duhului se gândesc la lucrurile Duhului.6Căci gândirea firii este moarte, însă gândirea Duhului este viață și pace.7Și aceasta, deoarece gândirea firii este dușmănie față de Dumnezeu, căci ea nu se supune Legii lui Dumnezeu și nici nu poate să se supună.8Cei ce sunt în fire nu‑I pot fi plăcuți lui Dumnezeu.9Voi însă nu sunteți în fire, ci în Duhul, dacă într-adevăr Duhul lui Dumnezeu locuiește în voi. Dar dacă cineva nu are Duhul lui Cristos, atunci acesta nu este al Lui.10Dacă însă Cristos este în voi, trupul vostru este mort din cauza păcatului, dar Duhul este viața voastră[2], din cauza dreptății.11Și dacă Duhul Celui Ce L‑a înviat pe Isus dintre cei morți locuiește în voi, atunci Cel Ce L‑a înviat pe Cristos dintre cei morți va da viață și trupurilor voastre muritoare, prin Duhul Lui Care locuiește în voi.12Așadar, fraților, noi suntem datori, dar nu față de fire, ca să trăim potrivit firii!13Pentru că, dacă trăiți potrivit firii, veți muri, dar dacă, prin Duhul, dați morții faptele trupului, veți trăi.14Căci toți cei ce sunt călăuziți de Duhul lui Dumnezeu sunt fii ai lui Dumnezeu.15Fiindcă voi n‑ați primit un duh de sclavie, ca să vă fie din nou teamă, ci ați primit Duhul înfierii[3], prin Care strigăm: „Abba!“[4], adică „Tată!“16Duhul Însuși depune mărturie, împreună cu duhul nostru, că suntem copii ai lui Dumnezeu.17Iar dacă suntem copii, suntem și moștenitori, – moștenitori ai lui Dumnezeu, moștenitori împreună cu Cristos –, dacă suferim într-adevăr împreună cu El, ca să fim și proslăviți împreună cu El.
Slava care ne așteaptă
18Căci eu consider că suferințele din vremea de acum nu sunt vrednice să fie puse alături de slava viitoare, care urmează să ne fie descoperită[5].19Căci și creația așteaptă cu ardoare descoperirea fiilor lui Dumnezeu,[6]20întrucât creația a fost supusă deșertăciunii, – nu pentru că a vrut ea, ci din cauza Celui Ce a supus‑o, – în speranța21că și creația va fi eliberată din sclavia stricăciunii pentru libertatea slavei copiilor lui Dumnezeu.22Noi știm că, până acum, întreaga creație geme și suferă durerile nașterii.23Dar nu numai ea, ci și noi înșine, care avem cel dintâi rod[7] al Duhului, gemem în noi înșine, așteptând cu ardoare înfierea, răscumpărarea trupului nostru. (2Co 1:22; Eph 1:14)24Căci în baza acestei speranțe am fost mântuiți. Dar o speranță care se vede nu mai este speranță! Fiindcă, cine mai speră în ceea ce vede deja?!25Dacă însă sperăm în ceea ce nu vedem, atunci așteptăm cu ardoare și răbdare.26În același fel, Duhul ne ajută în neputința noastră, pentru că nu știm cum ar trebui[8] să ne rugăm, ci Duhul Însuși mijlocește cu suspine nerostite[9];27însă Cel Care cercetează inimile, cunoaște care este gândirea Duhului, pentru că Acesta mijlocește pentru sfinți potrivit cu voia lui Dumnezeu.
Victorie deplină prin Cel Care ne‑a iubit
28Noi știm că toate lucrează împreună[10] spre binele celor ce‑L iubesc pe Dumnezeu, al celor ce sunt chemați potrivit cu planul Său.29Căci pe cei pe care i‑a cunoscut mai dinainte, El i‑a și hotărât mai dinainte să fie asemenea chipului Fiului Său, astfel încât Acesta să fie întâiul născut dintre mai mulți frați.30Și pe aceia pe care i‑a hotărât mai dinainte, i‑a și chemat; pe aceia pe care i‑a chemat, i‑a și îndreptățit; iar pe aceia pe care i‑a îndreptățit, i‑a și glorificat.31Ce vom spune deci despre aceste lucruri? Dacă Dumnezeu este pentru noi, cine va fi împotriva noastră?!32El, Care nu Și‑a cruțat propriul Fiu, ci L‑a dat pentru noi toți, cum nu ne va dărui, împreună cu El, toate lucrurile?!33Cine va aduce vreo acuzație împotriva aleșilor lui Dumnezeu? Dumnezeu este Cel Care‑i îndreptățește.34Cine este cel care‑i va condamna? Cristos Isus, Cel Care a murit și Care, mai mult decât atât, a fost înviat, este la dreapta lui Dumnezeu și mijlocește pentru noi.35Cine ne va despărți de dragostea lui Cristos? Necazul, sau strâmtorarea, sau persecuția, sau foametea, sau lipsa de îmbrăcăminte, sau pericolul, sau sabia?36Așa cum este scris: „Din cauza Ta suntem dați morții toată ziua, suntem considerați ca niște oi pentru tăiere.“[11] (Ps 44:22)37Însă, în toate aceste lucruri, suntem mai mult decât învingători prin Cel Care ne‑a iubit.38Căci sunt convins că nici moartea, nici viața, nici îngerii, nici conducătorii[12], nici lucrurile prezente, nici cele viitoare, nici puterile,39nici înălțimea, nici adâncimea, nicio altă creație[13] nu vor fi în stare să ne despartă de dragostea lui Dumnezeu, care este în Cristos Isus, Domnul nostru!
