New International Version

1 Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed – without remedy. 2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan. 3 A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. 4 By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for^[1] bribes tear it down. 5 Those who flatter their neighbours are spreading nets for their feet. 6 Evildoers are snared by their own sin, but the righteous shout for joy and are glad. 7 The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern. 8 Mockers stir up a city, but the wise turn away anger. 9 If a wise person goes to court with a fool, the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace. 10 The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity and seek to kill the upright. 11 Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end. 12 If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked. 13 The poor and the oppressor have this in common: the Lord gives sight to the eyes of both. 14 If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will be established for ever. 15 A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. 16 When the wicked thrive, so does sin, but the righteous will see their downfall. 17 Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire. 18 Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction. 19 Servants cannot be corrected by mere words; though they understand, they will not respond. 20 Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them. 21 A servant pampered from youth will turn out to be insolent. 22 An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. 23 Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honour. 24 The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies; they are put under oath and dare not testify. 25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. 26 Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the Lord that one gets justice. 27 The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.

1 Un om care‑și înțepenește ceafa^[1] în fața mustrărilor, va fi zdrobit deodată și nu va fi nicio vindecare. 2 Când cei drepți se înmulțesc, poporul se bucură, dar când stăpânește cel rău, poporul suspină. 3 Un om care iubește înțelepciunea îl face bucuros pe tatăl său, dar cel ce se însoțește cu prostituatele risipește averea. 4 Un rege dă stabilitate țării prin judecată, dar omul care impune daruri o distruge. 5 Omul care‑și lingușește semenul, întinde un laț picioarelor acestuia. 6 În fărădelegea unui om rău este o cursă, dar cel drept cântă și se bucură. 7 Cel drept cunoaște cauza săracilor, dar cel rău nu înțelege o asemenea știință. 8 Oamenii batjocurii agită o cetate, dar oamenii înțelepți potolesc mânia. 9 Când un om înțelept se judecă cu un nebun, acesta se mânie sau râde, dar pace nu se face. 10 Oamenii sângelui îl urăsc pe cel integru, și celor drepți caută să le ia viața. 11 Cel nesăbuit își arată toată furia^[2], dar cel înțelept o ține sub control. 12 Când un stăpânitor dă atenție minciunilor, toți supușii lui devin răi. 13 Săracul și asupritorul au un lucru comun: DOMNUL le luminează amândurora ochii. 14 Dacă regele îl judecă cu nepărtinire pe sărac, tronul lui va fi întotdeauna în siguranță. 15 Nuiaua și mustrarea dau înțelepciune, dar un copil lăsat în voia lui își face de rușine mama. 16 Când se înmulțesc cei răi crește fărădelegea, dar cel drept le va vedea prăbușirea. 17 Disciplinează‑ți fiul, și el îți va da odihnă! El va aduce desfătare sufletului tău. 18 Când nu este nicio descoperire, poporul este fără frâu, dar binecuvântat este cel ce păzește Legea! 19 Un slujitor nu poate fi corectat numai prin cuvinte, căci, deși înțelege, el nu răspunde. 20 Vezi un om ale cărui cuvinte sunt pripite? Este mai multă speranță pentru un nesăbuit decât pentru el. 21 Slujitorul care este răsfățat din copilărie, ajunge la urmă un arogant^[3]. 22 Un om mânios stârnește certuri și cel iute la mânie săvârșește multe fărădelegi. 23 Omul va fi smerit de mândria lui, dar un duh smerit va dobândi onoare. 24 Cine este complice cu hoțul își urăște viața; deși aude jurământul,^[4] el nu spune nimic. (Nu 5:21; Job 31:10) 25 Frica de oameni este o cursă, dar cel ce se încrede în DOMNUL va fi protejat la înălțime. 26 Mulți caută fața stăpânitorului, dar DOMNUL este Cel Ce face dreptate fiecăruia. 27 Așa cum cel nedrept este o urâciune pentru cei drepți, tot astfel și cel drept pe cale este o urâciune pentru cel rău.
