1Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.2Some men brought to him a paralysed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, ‘Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.’3At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, ‘This fellow is blaspheming!’4Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, ‘Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?5Which is easier: to say, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up and walk”?6But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.’ So he said to the paralysed man, ‘Get up, take your mat and go home.’7Then the man got up and went home.8When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
The calling of Matthew
9As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.10While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.11When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’12On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who are ill.13But go and learn what this means: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’ (Ho 6:6)
Jesus questioned about fasting
14Then John’s disciples came and asked him, ‘How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?’15Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.16‘No-one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.17Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out, and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.’
Jesus raises a dead girl and heals a sick woman
18While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, ‘My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.’19Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.20Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.21She said to herself, ‘If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.’22Jesus turned and saw her. ‘Take heart, daughter,’ he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed at that moment.23When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and the people playing pipes,24he said, ‘Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.’ But they laughed at him.25After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.26News of this spread through all that region.
Jesus heals the blind and the mute
27As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!’28When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ they replied.29Then he touched their eyes and said, ‘According to your faith let it be done to you’;30and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, ‘See that no-one knows about this.’31But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.32While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus.33And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, ‘Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.’34But the Pharisees said, ‘It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.’
The workers are few
35Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and illness.36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.37Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’

Văzând Isus credința lor, i‑a zis paraliticului: „Îndrăznește, copile! Păcatele îți sunt iertate!“3Dar iată că unii dintre cărturari și‑au zis în ei înșiși: „Acesta blasfemiază!“4Isus, cunoscând gândurile lor, a zis: „De ce gândiți lucruri rele în inimile voastre?5Căci ce este mai ușor: a spune«Păcatele îți sunt iertate!» sau a spune: «Ridică‑te și umblă!»?6Dar, ca să știți că Fiul Omului are pe pământ autoritatea de a ierta păcatele, ție îți spun – i‑a zis El paraliticului – ridică‑te, ia‑ți patul și du‑te acasă!“7Și, ridicându‑se, s‑a dus acasă.8Mulțimile s‑au înfricoșat când au văzut lucrul acesta și L‑au slăvit pe Dumnezeu, Cel Care a dat oamenilor o astfel de autoritate.
Chemarea lui Matei; Isus stă la masă cu „păcătoșii“
9Plecând mai departe de acolo, Isus a văzut un om, numit Matei, șezând la vamă[3] și i‑a zis: „Urmează‑Mă!“ El s‑a ridicat și L‑a urmat. (Mr 2:13; Lu 5:27)10În timp ce Isus era la masă, în casa lui Matei, iată că mulți vameși și păcătoși[4] au venit și ședeau la masă împreună cu Isus și cu ucenicii Săi.11Văzând lucrul acesta, fariseii le‑au zis ucenicilor Lui: – De ce mănâncă Învățătorul vostru împreună cu vameșii și cu păcătoșii?12Însă Isus i‑a auzit și le‑a zis: – Nu cei sănătoși au nevoie de doctor, ci bolnavii.13Duceți‑vă, deci, și învățați ce înseamnă: „Milă doresc, și nu jertfă!“[5] Căci Eu n‑am venit să‑i chem pe cei drepți, ci pe cei păcătoși. (Ho 6:6)
Întrebarea ucenicilor lui Ioan despre post
14Atunci ucenicii lui Ioan s‑au apropiat de El, zicând: – De ce noi și fariseii postim mult, iar ucenicii Tăi nu postesc? (Mr 2:18; Lu 5:33)15Isus le‑a răspuns: – Oare pot jeli nuntașii cât timp mirele este cu ei? Vor veni însă zile când mirele va fi luat de la ei și atunci vor posti.16Nimeni nu aplică un petic de pânză nouă la o haină veche, căci umplutura trage din haină și ruptura se face mai rea.17Și oamenii nu toarnă vin nou în burdufuri vechi. Altfel, burdufurile se crapă, vinul se varsă și burdufurile sunt distruse. Ci vinul nou se toarnă în burdufuri noi și astfel se păstrează amândouă.
Vindecarea unei femei și învierea unei fetițe
18În timp ce Isus spunea aceste lucruri, iată că unul dintre conducătorii sinagogii a venit și I s‑a închinat, zicând: „Fiica mea tocmai a murit; dar vino și pune‑Ți mâna peste ea și va trăi!“ (Mr 5:21; Lu 8:40)19Ridicându‑Se, Isus l‑a urmat împreună cu ucenicii Săi.20Și iată că o femeie, care de doisprezece ani avea o scurgere de sânge, apropiindu‑se prin spate, s‑a atins de marginea hainei Lui.21Căci își zicea în ea însăși: „Dacă doar aș atinge haina Lui, voi fi vindecată!“22Isus, întorcându‑Se și văzând‑o, i‑a zis: „Îndrăznește, fiică! Credința ta te‑a vindecat!“ Și femeia a fost vindecată chiar în ceasul acela.23Când a ajuns Isus la casa conducătorului sinagogii și a văzut cântăreții la fluier și mulțimea tulburată,24le‑a zis: „Plecați, pentru că fetița n‑a murit, ci doarme!“ Dar ei râdeau de El.25După ce mulțimea a fost scoasă afară, Isus a intrat, a apucat‑o pe fetiță de mână și ea a fost înviată.26Iar vestea despre aceasta s‑a răspândit în tot ținutul acela.
Vindecarea a doi orbi și a unui mut
27În timp ce Isus pleca de acolo, L‑au urmat doi orbi, strigând și zicând: – Ai milă de noi, Fiul lui David[6]! (2Sa 7:12; Isa 9:6)28Când a ajuns în casă, orbii s‑au apropiat de El. Isus le‑a zis: – Credeți că pot face lucrul acesta? Ei I‑au zis: – Da, Doamne.29Atunci El le‑a atins ochii și le‑a zis: – Să vi se facă după credința voastră!30Și ochii lor au fost deschiși. Isus i‑a avertizat și le‑a zis: – Vedeți să nu știe nimeni!31Dar ei, ieșind, au răspândit vestea despre El în tot ținutul acela.32După ce au plecat ei, iată că au adus la Isus un om mut, care era demonizat.33După ce demonul a fost alungat, mutul a vorbit. Mulțimile au rămas uimite, zicând: „Niciodată nu s‑a mai văzut așa ceva în Israel!“34Însă fariseii ziceau: „El alungă demonii cu ajutorul conducătorului[7] demonilor.“
Lucrători puțini pentru un seceriș atât de mare
35Isus călătorea prin toate cetățile și satele, dând învățătură în sinagogi, predicând Evanghelia Împărăției și vindecând orice boală și orice neputință. (Mr 6:34; Lu 10:2)36Când a văzut El mulțimile, I s‑a făcut milă de ele, pentru că erau necăjite și risipite, ca niște oi care n‑au păstor[8]. (Nu 27:17; 1Ki 22:17; 2Ch 18:16; Zec 10:2)37Atunci le‑a zis ucenicilor Săi: „Secerișul este mare, dar lucrătorii sunt puțini.38Deci, rugați‑L fierbinte pe Domnul secerișului să trimită lucrători la secerișul Său!“
