1When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.2A man with leprosy[1] came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’3Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.4Then Jesus said to him, ‘See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’
The faith of the centurion
5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.6‘Lord,’ he said, ‘my servant lies at home paralysed, suffering terribly.’7Jesus said to him, ‘Shall I come and heal him?’8The centurion replied, ‘Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, “Go,” and he goes; and that one, “Come,” and he comes. I say to my servant, “Do this,” and he does it.’10When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, ‘Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’13Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.’ And his servant was healed at that moment.
Jesus heals many
14When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.15He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.16When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all who were ill.17This was to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.’[2] (Isa 53:4)
The cost of following Jesus
18When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.19Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’20Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’21Another disciple said to him, ‘Lord, first let me go and bury my father.’22But Jesus told him, ‘Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.’
Jesus calms the storm
23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.24Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.25The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’26He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.27The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!’
Jesus restores two demon-possessed men
28When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,[3] two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no-one could pass that way.29‘What do you want with us, Son of God?’ they shouted. ‘Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?’30Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.31The demons begged Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’32He said to them, ‘Go!’ So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.33Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.34Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.

(Le 13:1; Le 13:2)3Isus a întins mâna, l‑a atins și a zis: – Da, vreau. Fii curățit! Și imediat lepra lui a fost curățită.4Isus i‑a zis: – Vezi să nu spui nimănui, ci du‑te, arată‑te preotului și adu darul pe care l‑a poruncit Moise[3], ca mărturie pentru ei. (Le 14:1)
Credința centurionului
5Când a intrat Isus în Capernaum, s‑a apropiat de El un centurion[4] care L‑a rugat (Lu 7:1; Lu 13:28)6și I‑a zis: – Doamne, slujitorul meu zace paralizat în casă și se chinuie cumplit!7Isus i‑a zis: – Voi veni și‑l voi vindeca.[5]8Dar centurionul, răspunzând, a zis: – Doamne, nu sunt vrednic să intri sub acoperișul meu! Prin urmare, spune doar un cuvânt, iar slujitorul meu va fi vindecat!9Căci și eu sunt un om sub autoritate și am soldați în subordinea mea. Îi spun unuia: „Du‑te!“, și el se duce; și altuia: „Vino!“, și el vine; și sclavului meu: „Fă asta!“, și el face.10Isus a rămas uimit când l‑a auzit și le‑a zis celor care‑L urmau: – Adevărat vă spun că la nimeni în Israel n‑am găsit atâta credință!11Și vă spun că vor veni mulți de la Răsărit și de la Apus și se vor așeza la masă[6] cu Avraam, Isaac și Iacov, în Împărăția Cerurilor.12Dar fiii Împărăției vor fi alungați în întunericul de afară. Acolo va fi plânsul și scrâșnirea dinților!13Apoi Isus i‑a zis centurionului: – Du‑te! Facă‑ți‑se după cum ai crezut! Și slujitorul acestuia a fost vindecat chiar la ora aceea.
Isus vindecă mai mulți bolnavi
14Când a intrat Isus în casa lui Petru, a văzut‑o pe soacra acestuia zăcând la pat și având febră. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38)15El i‑a atins mâna și febra a lăsat‑o. Și ea s‑a ridicat și a început să‑I slujească.16Când s‑a lăsat seara, i‑au adus la El pe mulți demonizați, iar El a alungat duhurile prin cuvântul Lui și i‑a vindecat pe toți cei bolnavi,17ca să se împlinească ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul Isaia, care zice: „El a luat neputințele noastre și a purtat bolile noastre“[7]. (Isa 53:4)
Prețul urmării lui Isus
18Când a văzut Isus mulțimea din jurul Lui, le‑a poruncit ucenicilor să treacă de cealaltă parte a mării. (Lu 9:57)19Atunci un cărturar s‑a apropiat și I‑a zis: – Învățătorule, Te voi urma oriunde vei merge!20Însă Isus i‑a spus: – Vulpile au vizuini și păsările cerului au cuiburi, dar Fiul Omului[8] nu are unde să‑Și plece capul. (Da 7:13)21Un altul dintre ucenicii Săi I‑a zis: – Doamne, dă‑mi voie mai întâi să mă duc să‑l înmormântez pe tatăl meu![9] (Lu 9:59)22Dar Isus i‑a zis: – Urmează‑Mă și lasă morții să‑și înmormânteze morții![10]
Isus liniștește furtuna
23Apoi S‑a urcat în barcă, iar ucenicii Săi L‑au urmat. (Mr 4:36; Lu 8:22)24Și iată că pe mare s‑a stârnit o furtună puternică, astfel încât barca a fost acoperită de valuri;[11] Isus însă dormea.25Ucenicii s‑au apropiat și L‑au trezit, zicând: – Doamne, scapă‑ne, căci pierim!26Însă El le‑a zis: – De ce sunteți fricoși, puțin credincioșilor? Apoi, ridicându‑Se, a mustrat vânturile și marea și s‑a făcut o liniște mare.27Oamenii au rămas uimiți și au zis: – Ce fel de Om este Acesta, de‑L ascultă până și vânturile, și marea?![12] (Job 38:8; Ps 65:5; Ps 89:9; Ps 107:23)
Vindecarea celor doi gadareni demonizați
28Când a ajuns de cealaltă parte a mării, în ținutul gadarenilor[13], L‑au întâmpinat doi demonizați, ieșind din morminte. Erau atât de cumpliți, încât nimeni nu putea să treacă pe drumul acela. (Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26)29Și iată că au început să strige, zicând: – Ce avem noi de‑a face cu Tine, Fiu al lui Dumnezeu? Ai venit aici să ne chinui înainte de vreme?30Undeva mai departe de ei, era o turmă mare de porci care pășteau.31Demonii Îl rugau, zicând: – Dacă ne alungi, trimite‑ne în turma aceea de porci!32El le‑a zis: – Duceți‑vă! Ei au ieșit și au intrat în porci. Și iată că întreaga turmă s‑a repezit pe râpă în jos, în mare[14], și a murit în ape. (Lu 8:31)33Păzitorii turmei au fugit și, intrând în cetate, i‑au anunțat pe oameni cu privire la toate acestea și la ce li se întâmplase demonizaților.34Și iată că toată cetatea a ieșit în întâmpinarea lui Isus. Când L‑au văzut, L‑au rugat să plece din hotarele lor.
