1A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.2They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.3Some men came, bringing to him a paralysed man, carried by four of them.4Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralysed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’6Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,7‘Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’8Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, ‘Why are you thinking these things?9Which is easier: to say to this paralysed man, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up, take your mat and walk”?10But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.’ So he said to the man,11‘I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.’12He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, ‘We have never seen anything like this!’
Jesus calls Levi and eats with sinners
13Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.14As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.15While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.16When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: ‘Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’17On hearing this, Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who are ill. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’
Jesus questioned about fasting
18Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, ‘How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?’19Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them.20But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.21‘No-one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.22And no-one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.’
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath
23One Sabbath Jesus was going through the cornfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some ears of corn.24The Pharisees said to him, ‘Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?’25He answered, ‘Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?26In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.’27Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.28So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’
1Câteva zile mai târziu, Isus a venit din nou în Capernaum. Când s‑a auzit că este în casă, (Mt 9:1; Lu 5:17)2s‑au adunat atât de mulți oameni, încât nu mai rămăsese loc nici măcar în fața ușii. Isus le vorbea din Cuvânt.3Atunci au venit niște oameni care au adus la El un paralitic, purtat de patru dintre ei.4Fiindcă n‑au putut să‑l aducă la Isus din cauza mulțimii, ei au dat la o parte acoperișul casei[1] unde se afla Isus, au făcut o spărtură și au coborât pe acolo targa pe care era așezat paraliticul.5Văzând Isus credința lor, i‑a zis paraliticului: „Copile, păcatele îți sunt iertate!“6Unii dintre cărturarii care ședeau acolo se gândeau în inimile lor:7„De ce vorbește Acesta astfel? Blasfemiază! Cine poate ierta păcatele, în afară de singurul Dumnezeu?!“8Însă Isus, cunoscând imediat în duhul Său că ei gândeau astfel în ei înșiși, le‑a zis: „De ce gândiți astfel în inimile voastre?9Ce este mai ușor, a spune paraliticului: «Păcatele îți sunt iertate!» sau a spune: «Ridică‑te, ia‑ți targa și umblă!»?10Dar, ca să știți că Fiul Omului[2] are pe pământ autoritatea de a ierta păcatele, ție îți spun[3] – i‑a zis El paraliticului – (Da 7:13)11ridică‑te, ia‑ți patul și du‑te acasă!“12El s‑a ridicat, și‑a luat imediat targa și a ieșit afară înaintea tuturor, așa că toți se minunau și Îl slăveau pe Dumnezeu, zicând: „N‑am mai văzut niciodată așa ceva!“
Chemarea lui Levi
13Isus a ieșit din nou lângă mare. Toată mulțimea a venit la El, iar El îi învăța. (Mt 9:9; Lu 5:27)14Plecând mai departe, El l‑a văzut pe Levi[4], fiul lui Alfeu, șezând la vamă[5] și i‑a zis: „Urmează‑Mă!“ El s‑a ridicat și L‑a urmat. (Mt 9:9; Mt 10:3)15În timp ce Isus lua masa în casa lui Levi, mulți vameși[6] și păcătoși[7] ședeau la masă[8] împreună cu El și cu ucenicii Lui; căci erau mulți care Îl urmau.16Văzând că Isus mănâncă împreună cu păcătoșii și cu vameșii, cărturarii fariseilor[9] le‑au zis ucenicilor Lui: – Mănâncă și bea împreună cu vameșii și cu păcătoșii?17Însă Isus i‑a auzit și le‑a zis: – Nu cei sănătoși au nevoie de doctor, ci bolnavii. Eu n‑am venit să‑i chem pe cei drepți, ci pe cei păcătoși.

18Ucenicii lui Ioan și ai fariseilor obișnuiau să postească[10]. Ei s‑au apropiat și I‑au zis: – De ce ucenicii lui Ioan și ucenicii fariseilor postesc, iar ucenicii Tăi nu postesc? (Le 16:29; Zec 7:5; Zec 8:19; Mt 9:14; Lu 5:33; Lu 18:12)19Isus le‑a răspuns: – Pot să postească nuntașii în timp ce mirele este cu ei? Atât timp cât îl au pe mire cu ei, nu pot să postească.20Însă vor veni zile când mirele va fi luat de la ei și atunci, în ziua aceea, vor posti.21Nimeni nu coase un petic de pânză nouă pe o haină veche. Altfel, umplutura trage din aceasta, cea nouă din haina veche, și ruptura se face mai rea.22Și nimeni nu toarnă vin nou în burdufuri vechi. Altfel, vinul va crăpa burdufurile, iar vinul și burdufurile vor fi distruse. Ci vinul nou se toarnă în burdufuri noi.
Isus, Domnul Sabatului
23Într‑o zi de Sabat, Isus trecea prin lanurile de grâu. În timp ce‑și croiau drum printre ele, ucenicii Lui au început să smulgă spice. (Mt 12:1; Lu 6:1)24Fariseii I‑au zis lui Isus: – Vezi, de ce fac ei ce nu este voie în ziua de Sabat?25El le‑a zis: – N‑ați citit niciodată ce a făcut David[11] atunci când a fost în nevoie și i s‑a făcut foame, atât lui, cât și celor ce erau cu el? (1Sa 21:1)26Cum a intrat în Casa lui Dumnezeu, pe vremea lui Abiatar,[12] marele preot, și a mâncat pâinile prezentării, pe care nu este îngăduit să le mănânce decât preoții, și cum a dat și celor ce erau cu el? (1Sa 21:1)27Apoi le‑a zis: – Ziua de Sabat a fost făcută pentru om, nu omul pentru ziua de Sabat!28Așa că Fiul Omului este Domn și al Sabatului.
