1Moses answered, ‘What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, “The Lord did not appear to you”?’2Then the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied.3The Lord said, ‘Throw it on the ground.’ Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.4Then the Lord said to him, ‘Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.’ So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.5‘This,’ said the Lord, ‘is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob – has appeared to you.’6Then the Lord said, ‘Put your hand inside your cloak.’ So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[1] – it had become as white as snow.7‘Now put it back into your cloak,’ he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh.8Then the Lord said, ‘If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second.9But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.’10Moses said to the Lord, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.’11The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?12Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’13But Moses said, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.’14Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, ‘What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.15You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.16He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.17But take this staff in your hand so that you can perform the signs with it.’
Moses returns to Egypt
18Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, ‘Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.’ Jethro said, ‘Go, and I wish you well.’19Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, ‘Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead.’20So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand.21The Lord said to Moses, ‘When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.22Then say to Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son,23and I told you, ‘Let my son go, so that he may worship me.’ But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.” ’24At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses[2] and was about to kill him.25But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it.[3] ‘Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,’ she said.26So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said ‘bridegroom of blood’, referring to circumcision.)27The Lord said to Aaron, ‘Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.’ So he met Moses at the mountain of God and kissed him.28Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform.29Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites,30and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs before the people,31and they believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshipped.
1Moise a răspuns și a zis: – Iată că nu mă vor crede și nu mă vor asculta, ci vor zice: „Nu ți S‑a arătat DOMNUL!“2DOMNUL l‑a întrebat. – Ce ai în mână? El a răspuns: – Un toiag.3Domnul i‑a zis: – Aruncă‑l la pământ! El l‑a aruncat la pământ și acesta s‑a transformat într‑un șarpe. Moise a fugit dinaintea lui.4Apoi DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: – Întinde‑ți mâna și prinde‑l de coadă! El și‑a întins mâna, l‑a prins și acesta s‑a transformat în mâna lui într‑un toiag.5– Așa să faci pentru ca ei să creadă că ți S‑a arătat DOMNUL, Dumnezeul părinților lor, Dumnezeul lui Avraam, Dumnezeul lui Isaac și Dumnezeul lui Iacov.6DOMNUL i‑a mai zis: – Bagă‑ți mâna în sân! El și‑a băgat mâna în sân, iar când a scos‑o, iată că mâna lui era leproasă[1], ca zăpada.7Apoi Domnul i‑a zis: – Bagă‑ți mâna înapoi în sân! El și‑a băgat mâna înapoi în sân. Când a scos‑o din sân, iată că se făcuse iarăși ca restul pielii sale.8– Dacă nu te vor crede și nu vor lua în seamă mesajul primului semn, vor crede mesajul următorului semn.9Dacă nu vor crede nici aceste două semne și nu vor asculta de glasul tău, să iei apă din Nil și s‑o verși pe pământ. Apa pe care o vei lua din Nil se va preface în sânge pe pământul uscat.10Dar Moise I‑a zis DOMNULUI: – Ah, Stăpâne, eu nu sunt un om al cuvintelor, nici de ieri, nici de alaltăieri, nici măcar de când i‑ai vorbit robului Tău, căci vorbirea‑mi este greoaie, iar limba‑mi este încurcată[2]. (Ex 6:12; Ex 6:30)11Atunci DOMNUL l‑a întrebat: – Cine a făcut gura omului? Sau cine îl face mut, sau surd, sau văzător, sau orb? Oare nu Eu, DOMNUL?12Acum, du‑te, căci Eu voi fi cu gura ta și te voi învăța ce să spui.13Însă Moise I‑a răspuns: – Ah, Stăpâne, Te rog, trimite pe altcineva, pe care vei vrea să‑l trimiți!14Atunci mânia DOMNULUI s‑a aprins împotriva lui Moise și El a zis: – Nu este levitul[3] Aaron fratele tău? Știu că el vorbește bine. Iată că vine să te întâlnească, iar când te va vedea, se va bucura în inima lui. (1Ch 23:13)15Să vorbești cu el și să pui în gura lui aceste cuvinte. Eu voi fi cu gura ta și cu gura lui și vă voi învăța ce să faceți.16El va vorbi poporului în locul tău. Îți va sluji drept gură și tu vei fi pentru el asemenea lui Dumnezeu.17Să iei în mână toiagul acesta cu care vei face semnele.
Moise se întoarce în Egipt
18Moise s‑a întors la socrul său, Ietro, și i‑a zis: – Te rog, lasă‑mă să mă întorc la frații[4] mei, care sunt în Egipt, ca să văd dacă mai trăiesc. Ietro i‑a răspuns: – Du‑te în pace! (Ex 2:11)19DOMNUL îi spusese lui Moise în Midian: „Întoarce‑te în Egipt, pentru că toți cei ce căutau să‑ți ia viața au murit.“20Moise și‑a luat soția și fiii, i‑a pus pe măgari și a plecat înapoi spre țara Egiptului. Moise avea în mână toiagul lui Dumnezeu.21DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Moise: „Când vei pleca și te vei întoarce în Egipt, vezi să înfăptuiești înaintea lui Faraon toate minunile pe care te‑am împuternicit să le faci. Eu îi voi împietri[5] inima și el nu va lăsa poporul să plece. (Ex 7:3; Ex 7:13; Ex 7:14; Ex 7:22; Ex 8:15; Ex 8:19; Ex 8:32; Ex 9:7; Ex 9:12; Ex 9:34; Ex 9:35; Ex 10:1; Ex 10:20; Ex 10:27; Ex 11:10; Ex 14:5; Ex 14:8; Ex 14:17; De 2:30)22Atunci să‑i spui lui Faraon: «Așa vorbește DOMNUL: ‘Israel este fiul Meu, întâiul Meu născut.23Îți spun: lasă‑l pe fiul Meu să plece ca să‑Mi slujească. Dacă nu vrei să‑l lași să plece, iată că‑l voi ucide pe întâiul tău născut!’»“24Pe drum, în locul în care au rămas peste noapte, DOMNUL l‑a întâlnit[6] și a vrut să‑l omoare.25Dar Sefora a luat o piatră ascuțită și a tăiat prepuțul fiului ei[7]. Apoi a atins cu el picioarele lui Moise și a zis: „Tu îmi ești un soț de sânge!“ (Ge 17:14)26Atunci El l‑a lăsat în pace. Ea a zis: „Un soț de sânge“ din cauza circumciziei.27DOMNUL i‑a zis lui Aaron: „Du‑te în pustie ca să‑l întâlnești pe Moise.“ El a plecat și, când a ajuns la muntele lui Dumnezeu, l‑a întâlnit pe Moise și i‑a dat sărutare.28Moise i‑a spus lui Aaron toate cuvintele cu care DOMNUL l‑a trimis și despre toate semnele pe care i le‑a poruncit să le facă.29Apoi Moise și Aaron s‑au dus și i‑au adunat pe toți bătrânii fiilor lui Israel.30Aaron le‑a spus toate cuvintele pe care DOMNUL i le zisese lui Moise și a făcut semnele înaintea poporului.31Poporul a crezut, iar când au auzit că DOMNUL i‑a cercetat pe fiii lui Israel și le‑a văzut suferința, s‑au plecat la pământ și s‑au închinat.
