1After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him,2he said to Nathan the prophet, ‘Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.’3Nathan replied to the king, ‘Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.’4But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:5‘Go and tell my servant David, “This is what the Lord says: are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?6I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling.7Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’ ”8‘Now then, tell my servant David, “This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.9I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth.10And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people shall not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning11and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders[1] over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. ‘ “The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you:12when your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.13He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.14I will be his father, and he shall be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.15But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.16Your house and your kingdom shall endure for ever before me[2]; your throne shall be established for ever.” ’17Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
David’s prayer
18Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: ‘Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?19And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant – and this decree, Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human![3]20‘What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign Lord.21For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant.22‘How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no-one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.23And who is like your people Israel – the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?[4] (1Ch 17:21)24You have established your people Israel as your very own for ever, and you, Lord, have become their God.25‘And now, Lord God, keep for ever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised,26so that your name will be great for ever. Then people will say, “The Lord Almighty is God over Israel!” And the house of your servant David will be established in your sight.27‘Lord Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, “I will build a house for you.” So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you.28Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.29Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue for ever in your sight; for you, Sovereign Lord, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed for ever.’
1După ce regele s‑a stabilit în palatul lui și după ce DOMNUL i‑a dat odihnă izbăvindu‑l de toți dușmanii din jurul lui, (1Ch 17:1)2i‑a zis profetului Natan: – Iată, eu locuiesc într‑un palat din cedru, iar Chivotul lui Dumnezeu locuiește în mijlocul unei pânze de cort.3Natan i‑a răspuns regelui: – Du‑te și fă tot ceea ce ai pe inimă, căci DOMNUL este cu tine!4În noaptea aceea însă, Cuvântul DOMNULUI a venit la Natan, zicând:5„Du‑te și spune‑i robului Meu David: «Așa vorbește DOMNUL: oare tu Îmi vei zidi Mie o Casă de locuit?6Căci Eu n‑am locuit într‑o Casă din ziua în care i‑am ridicat pe fiii lui Israel din Egipt și până în ziua aceasta, ci am fost într‑un cort drept locuință.7Pretutindeni pe unde am mers împreună cu toți fiii lui Israel, am spus Eu oare vreun cuvânt vreuneia dintre semințiile lui Israel, cărora le poruncisem să păstorească poporul Meu Israel, și le‑am zis Eu: ‘De ce nu‑Mi zidiți o Casă din cedru?’»8Prin urmare, să‑i spui robului Meu David, astfel: «Așa vorbește DOMNUL Oștirilor: Eu te‑am luat de la pășune, dinapoia turmei, ca să fii conducătorul poporului Meu, Israel.9Am fost cu tine pretutindeni pe unde ai mers și i‑am nimicit dinaintea ta pe toți dușmanii tăi. Acum îți voi face un nume mare, precum numele celor mari de pe pământ.10Voi pregăti un loc pentru poporul Meu Israel și îl voi sădi acolo ca să locuiască singur, fără să mai fie tulburat și fără ca fiii nedreptății să‑l mai poată asupri, așa cum făcuseră mai înainte,11încă din zilele în care rânduisem judecători peste poporul Meu Israel. Și îți voi da odihnă din partea tuturor dușmanilor tăi. Acum DOMNUL te înștiințează că DOMNUL Însuși îți va face o Casă.12Când ți se vor împlini zilele și vei adormi alături de părinții tăi, voi ridica sămânța ta după tine, care va ieși din trupul tău, și‑i voi întări domnia.13El va zidi Numelui Meu o Casă, și Eu îi voi întări pe vecie tronul domniei lui.14Eu îi voi fi Tată, iar el Îmi va fi fiu. Când va păcătui, îl voi mustra cu nuiaua oamenilor și cu loviturile fiilor omului,15dar îndurarea[1] Mea nu se va depărta de la el, așa cum am îndepărtat‑o de la Saul, pe care l‑am înlăturat dinaintea ta.16Ci Casa ta și regatul tău vor rămâne pe vecie înaintea Mea, iar tronul tău va fi întărit pe vecie.»“17Natan l‑a înștiințat pe David întocmai despre toate aceste cuvinte, despre toată această vedenie.
Rugăciunea de mulțumire a lui David
18Regele David a intrat, s‑a așezat înaintea DOMNULUI și a zis: „Cine sunt eu, Stăpâne DOAMNE, și cine este Casa mea, de m‑ai adus până aici? (1Ch 17:15)19Și, ca și cum ar fi prea puțin în ochii Tăi, Stăpâne DOAMNE, ai mai vorbit și despre viitorul îndepărtat al Casei robului Tău. Să fie aceasta o învățătură pentru om[2], Stăpâne DOAMNE! (1Ch 17:17)20Ce‑ar putea să‑Ți mai răspundă David? Tu, Stăpâne DOAMNE, îl cunoști pe robul Tău.21Datorită cuvântului Tău și a inimii Tale[3], ai făcut Tu toate aceste lucrări mărețe, descoperindu‑le apoi robului Tău.22Cât de măreț ești Tu, Stăpâne DOAMNE! După câte am auzit cu urechile noastre, nu este nimeni ca Tine și nu există alt Dumnezeu în afară de Tine.23Și cine este ca poporul Tău, ca Israel, singurul neam de pe pământ pe care Dumnezeu S‑a dus să‑l răscumpere pentru Sine ca popor, ca să‑Și facă un nume, înfăptuind pentru voi lucrări mărețe și de temut și alungând dinaintea poporului Tău, pe care l‑ai răscumpărat din Egipt pentru Tine, neamuri și pe dumnezeii lor?24Tu l‑ai stabilit pentru Tine pe poporul Tău Israel, ca să fie poporul Tău pe vecie; și Tu, DOAMNE, ai devenit Dumnezeul lor.25Și acum, DOAMNE, Dumnezeule, fă să rămână pe vecie promisiunea pe care ai făcut‑o cu privire la robul Tău și la Casa lui și fă precum ai zis.26Astfel, Numele Tău va fi preamărit pe vecie, spunându‑se: «DOMNUL Oștirilor este Dumnezeu peste Israel». Iar Casa robului Tău David va fi întărită înaintea Ta!27Tu, DOAMNE al Oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, ai descoperit robului Tău că îi vei zidi o Casă. De aceea a avut îndrăzneală robul Tău să‑Ți facă această rugăciune.28Așadar, Stăpâne DOAMNE, Tu, Cel Care ești Dumnezeu și ale Cărui cuvinte sunt adevăr, i‑ai promis robului Tău acest lucru bun.29Binevoiește deci să binecuvântezi Casa robului Tău, ca să rămână pe vecie înaintea Ta. Căci Tu, Stăpâne DOAMNE, ai vorbit și, prin binecuvântarea Ta, Casa robului Tău va fi binecuvântată pe vecie.“
