1David again brought together all the able young men of Israel – thirty thousand.2He and all his men went to Baalah[1] in Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name,[2] the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark. (1Ch 13:6)3They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart4with the ark of God on it,[3] and Ahio was walking in front of it.5David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets,[4] harps, lyres, tambourines, rattles and cymbals. (1Ch 13:8)6When they came to the threshing-floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled.7The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.8Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.[5]9David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, ‘How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?’10He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.11The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.12Now King David was told, ‘The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.’ So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.13When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.14Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might,15while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.16As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.17They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord.18After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty.19Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.20When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, ‘How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!’21David said to Michal, ‘It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel – I will celebrate before the Lord.22I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honour.’23And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

Uza și Ahio, fiii[2] lui Abinadab, conduceau carul cel nou.4Astfel, ei au luat carul cu Chivotul lui Dumnezeu din casa lui Abinadab, de pe deal. Ahio mergea în fața Chivotului.5David și toată Casa lui Israel sărbătoreau înaintea DOMNULUI cu tot felul de instrumente din lemn de chiparos, cu lire, cu harfe, cu tamburine, cu sistre și cu talgere.6Când au ajuns la aria lui Nahon, Uza și‑a întins mâna să apuce Chivotul[3] lui Dumnezeu deoarece era să‑l răstoarne boii. (Ex 25:12; Nu 4:15)7Atunci mânia DOMNULUI s‑a aprins împotriva lui Uza și Dumnezeu l‑a lovit acolo pentru neglijența[4] lui. Uza a murit acolo, lângă Chivotul lui Dumnezeu. (1Ch 13:10)8David s‑a mâniat pentru că DOMNUL izbucnise împotriva lui Uza, și a numit acel loc Pereț‑Uza[5], nume care i‑a rămas până în ziua aceasta.9David s‑a temut de DOMNUL în acea zi și a zis: „Cum să vină Chivotul DOMNULUI la mine?“10Și David n‑a vrut să mai aducă Chivotul DOMNULUI în Cetatea lui David, ci l‑a dus în casa lui Obed-Edom, ghititul.11Chivotul DOMNULUI a rămas în casa lui Obed-Edom, ghititul, timp de trei luni, iar DOMNUL l‑a binecuvântat pe Obed-Edom împreună cu întreaga lui familie.12L‑au înștiințat pe regele David, zicând: „DOMNUL a binecuvântat familia lui Obed-Edom și tot ceea ce are, datorită Chivotului lui Dumnezeu“. Atunci David s‑a dus și a adus Chivotul lui Dumnezeu din casa lui Obed-Edom în Cetatea lui David, în mijlocul bucuriei.13După fiecare șase pași pe care‑i făceau cei care purtau Chivotul DOMNULUI, David jertfea un bou și un vițel îngrășat.14David dansa cu toată puterea înaintea DOMNULUI, încins cu un efod de in.15David împreună cu toată Casa lui Israel aduceau Chivotul DOMNULUI în mijlocul strigătelor și al sunetului de trâmbiță[6]. Mihal îl mustră pe David
16În timp ce Chivotul DOMNULUI intra în Cetatea lui David, Mihal, fiica lui Saul, se uita pe fereastră. Când l‑a văzut pe regele David, sărind și dansând înaintea DOMNULUI, l‑a disprețuit în inima ei.17Au adus Chivotul DOMNULUI și l‑au așezat la locul lui, în mijlocul cortului pe care i l‑a întins David. Apoi David a adus înaintea DOMNULUI arderi‑de‑tot și jertfe de pace[7].18După ce a terminat de adus arderile‑de‑tot și jertfele de pace, David a binecuvântat poporul în Numele DOMNULUI Oștirilor19și a împărțit la tot poporul, întregii adunări a lui Israel, fiecărui bărbat și fiecărei femei, câte o pâine, o turtă de curmale[8] și o turtă cu stafide. Apoi tot poporul a plecat, fiecare la casa lui.20Când David s‑a întors să‑și binecuvânteze familia, Mihal, fiica lui Saul, i‑a ieșit în întâmpinare și i‑a zis: – Cu câtă cinste s‑a purtat astăzi regele lui Israel, expunându‑se astăzi înaintea ochilor roabelor slujitorilor săi, așa cum s‑ar fi expus un om de nimic!21David i‑a răspuns lui Mihal: – Înaintea DOMNULUI, Care m‑a ales mai presus decât pe tatăl tău și mai presus decât toată familia lui și m‑a pus drept conducător peste poporul DOMNULUI, peste Israel, înaintea Lui am dansat.22Și vreau să fiu și mai de nimic decât de data aceasta și să fiu înjosit în ochii mei. Dar față de roabele despre care vorbeai, față de ele, să fiu onorat!23Mihal, fiica lui Saul, n‑a avut copii până în ziua morții ei.
