1Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.[1]2Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.3When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,4what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?[2]5You have made them[3] a little lower than the angels[4] and crowned them[5] with glory and honour.6You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their[6] feet:7all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild,8the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.9Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Die ganze Welt spiegelt deine Herrlichkeit wider, der Himmel ist Zeichen deiner Hoheit und Macht.3Aus dem Mund der Kinder und Säuglinge lässt du dein Lob erklingen[2]. Es ist stärker als das Fluchen deiner Feinde. Erlahmen muss da ihre Rachsucht, beschämt müssen sie verstummen.4Ich blicke zum Himmel und sehe, was deine Hände geschaffen haben: den Mond und die Sterne – allen hast du ihren Platz zugewiesen.5Was ist da schon der Mensch, dass du an ihn denkst? Wie klein und unbedeutend ist er, und doch kümmerst du dich um ihn.[3]6Du hast ihn nur wenig geringer gemacht als die Engel[4], ja, mit Ruhm und Ehre hast du ihn gekrönt.7Du hast ihm den Auftrag gegeben, über deine Geschöpfe zu herrschen. Alles hast du ihm zu Füßen gelegt:8die Schafe und Rinder, die wilden Tiere,9die Vögel am Himmel, die Fische im Wasser und alles, was die Meere durchzieht.10HERR, unser Herrscher!
