1The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?2When the wicked advance against me to devour[1] me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.3Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.4One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.5For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.6Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.7Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.8My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.9Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Saviour.10Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.11Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.12Do not hand me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.13I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.14Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

(Ps 3:7)4Nur eine Bitte habe ich an den HERRN, das ist mein Herzenswunsch: Mein ganzes Leben lang möchte ich in seinem Haus bleiben, um dort seine Freundlichkeit zu schauen und seinen Tempel zu bewundern.[1] (Ps 23:6)5Wenn schlimme Tage kommen, nimmt der HERR mich bei sich auf, er gibt mir Schutz unter seinem Dach und stellt mich auf sicheren Felsengrund. (Ps 31:21)6Dann triumphiere ich über die Feinde, die mich von allen Seiten umringen. Im Tempel bringe ich ihm meine Opfer, mit lautem Jubel danke ich dem HERRN, mit Singen und Spielen preise ich ihn.7HERR, höre mich, wenn ich dich rufe; hab doch Erbarmen und antworte mir!8Ich erinnere mich an deine Weisung; du hast gesagt: »Kommt zu mir!« Darum suche ich deine Nähe, HERR. (Ps 105:4; Am 5:4)9Verbirg dich nicht vor mir! Jag mich nicht im Zorn von dir weg! Du hast mir doch immer geholfen; lass mich jetzt nicht im Stich! Verstoß mich nicht, Gott, du mein Retter!10Wenn auch Vater und Mutter mich verstoßen, du, HERR, nimmst mich auf. (Isa 49:15)11HERR, zeige mir den richtigen Weg, leite mich auf gerader Bahn, damit meine Feinde schweigen müssen. (Ps 25:4)12Gib mich nicht ihrer Mordgier preis! Die Zeugen, die mich belasten sollen, Lügner sind sie, die das Recht zerstören! (Ps 35:11; Ps 109:2)13Doch ich weiß, ich muss nicht hinab zu den Toten; ich darf weiterleben, um deine Güte zu sehen.14Vertrau auf den HERRN, sei stark und fasse Mut, vertrau auf den HERRN!
