1‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[1]; believe also in me.2My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.4You know the way to the place where I am going.’
Jesus the way to the Father
5Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’6Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.7If you really know me, you will know[2] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.’8Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.’9Jesus answered: ‘Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”?10Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.12Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit
15‘If you love me, keep my commands.16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you for ever –17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[3] in you.18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.20On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.21Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.’22Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, ‘But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?’23Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.24Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.25‘All this I have spoken while still with you.26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.28‘You heard me say, “I am going away and I am coming back to you.” If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.29I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.30I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,31but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. ‘Come now; let us leave.
1Dann sagte Jesus zu allen:[1] »Erschreckt nicht, habt keine Angst! Vertraut auf Gott und vertraut auch auf mich![2]2Im Haus meines Vaters gibt es viele Wohnungen, und ich gehe jetzt hin, um dort einen Platz für euch bereit zu machen. Sonst hätte ich euch doch nicht mit der Ankündigung beunruhigt, dass ich weggehe.[3]3Und wenn ich gegangen bin und euch den Platz bereitet habe, dann werde ich zurückkommen und euch zu mir nehmen, damit auch ihr seid, wo ich bin. (Joh 12:26)4Den Weg zu dem Ort, an den ich gehe, den kennt ihr ja.«5Thomas sagte zu ihm: »Herr, wir wissen nicht einmal, wohin du gehst! Wie sollen wir dann den Weg dorthin kennen?« (Joh 20:24)6Jesus antwortete: »Ich bin der Weg, denn ich bin die Wahrheit und das Leben.[4] Einen anderen Weg zum Vater gibt es nicht. (Joh 10:9; Heb 10:20)7Wenn ihr mich kennt, werdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen. Schon jetzt kennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen.«8Philippus sagte zu ihm: »Herr, zeige uns den Vater! Mehr brauchen wir nicht.«9Jesus antwortete: »Nun bin ich so lange mit euch zusammen gewesen, Philippus, und du kennst mich immer noch nicht? Wer mich gesehen hat, hat den Vater gesehen. Wie kannst du dann sagen: ›Zeige uns den Vater‹? (Joh 1:18; Joh 12:45)10Glaubst du nicht, dass du in mir dem Vater begegnest? Was ich zu euch gesprochen habe, das stammt nicht von mir. Der Vater, der immer in mir ist, vollbringt durch mich seine Taten. (Joh 3:35)11Glaubt mir: Ich lebe im Vater und der Vater in mir. Wenn ihr mir nicht auf mein Wort hin glaubt, dann glaubt mir wegen dieser Taten. (Joh 5:18; Joh 5:36)12Amen, ich versichere euch: Wer im Glauben mit mir verbunden bleibt, wird die gleichen Taten vollbringen, die ich tue. Ja, er wird noch größere Taten vollbringen, denn ich gehe zum Vater.13Wenn ihr dann in meinem Namen, unter Berufung auf mich, um irgendetwas bittet, werde ich es tun. So wird durch den Sohn die Herrlichkeit des Vaters offenbar werden. (Joh 15:16; Joh 17:1)14Ja, wenn ihr mich um etwas bittet und euch dabei auf mich beruft, werde ich eure Bitte erfüllen.«
Jesus verspricht den Heiligen Geist
15»Wenn ihr mich liebt, werdet ihr meine Gebote befolgen. (Joh 14:21; Joh 14:23; Joh 15:10; 1Jo 5:3; 2Jo 1:6)16Und ich werde den Vater bitten, dass er euch an meiner Stelle einen anderen Helfer gibt, der für immer bei euch bleibt, (Joh 7:39; Joh 14:26; Joh 15:26; Joh 16:7; Joh 16:13; Joh 20:22; Ac 1:4; Ac 2:4; 1Jo 3:24; 1Jo 4:13)17den Geist der Wahrheit. Die Welt kann ihn nicht bekommen, weil sie ihn nicht sehen kann und nichts von ihm versteht. Aber ihr kennt ihn, denn er wird bei euch bleiben und in euch leben. (1Co 2:10)18Ich lasse euch nicht wie Waisenkinder allein; ich komme wieder zu euch.19Es dauert noch eine kurze Zeit, dann wird die Welt mich nicht mehr sehen. Aber ihr werdet mich dann sehen, und ihr werdet leben, weil ich lebe. (Joh 16:16)20Wenn dieser Tag kommt, werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich in meinem Vater lebe und dass ihr in mir lebt und ich in euch. (Joh 5:18)21Wer meine Gebote annimmt und sie befolgt, der liebt mich wirklich. Und wer mich liebt, den wird mein Vater lieben. Auch ich werde ihn lieben und ihm meine Herrlichkeit offenbaren.«22Judas – nicht der Judas Iskariot – sagte: »Warum willst du deine Herrlichkeit nur uns zeigen und nicht der Welt?«23Jesus antwortete ihm: »Wer mich liebt, wird sich nach meinem Wort richten; dann wird ihn mein Vater lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und bei ihm wohnen. (Re 3:20)24Wer mich nicht liebt, richtet sich nicht nach meinen Worten – und dabei kommen doch die Worte, die ihr gehört habt, nicht von mir, sondern von meinem Vater, der mich gesandt hat. (Joh 7:16)25Ich habe euch dies gesagt, solange ich noch bei euch bin.26Der Vater wird euch in meinem Namen den Helfer senden, der an meine Stelle tritt, den Heiligen Geist. Der wird euch alles Weitere lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich selbst schon gesagt habe. (Joh 14:16)27Zum Abschied gebe ich euch den Frieden, meinen Frieden, nicht den Frieden, den die Welt gibt. Erschreckt nicht, habt keine Angst! (Lu 2:14; Joh 16:33; Joh 20:19; Joh 20:21)28Ihr habt gehört, wie ich zu euch sagte: ›Ich verlasse euch und werde wieder zu euch kommen.‹ Wenn ihr mich wirklich liebtet, würdet ihr euch freuen, dass ich zum Vater gehe; denn er ist größer als ich.29Ich habe euch das alles im Voraus gesagt, damit euer Glaube festbleibt, wenn es dann eintrifft. (Joh 13:19)30Ich werde nicht mehr viel mit euch reden, weil der Herrscher dieser Welt schon auf dem Weg ist. Er hat keine Macht über mich, (Joh 12:31)31aber die Welt soll erkennen, dass ich den Vater liebe. Darum handle ich so, wie es mir mein Vater aufgetragen hat. Und nun steht auf! Wir wollen gehen!« (Joh 4:34)

Gesù consola gli apostoli: egli ritornerà da loro
1«Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; credete in Dio, e credete anche in me!2Nella casa del Padre mio ci sono molte dimore; se no, vi avrei detto forse che io vado a prepararvi un luogo?3Quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un luogo, tornerò e vi accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove sono io, siate anche voi;4e del luogo dove io vado, sapete anche la via».5Tommaso gli disse: «Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo sapere la via?»6Gesù gli disse: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.7Se avete conosciuto me, conoscerete anche mio Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l’avete visto».8Filippo gli disse: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».9Gesù gli disse: «Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre; come mai tu dici: “Mostraci il Padre”?10Non credi tu che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico di mio; ma il Padre che dimora in me fa le opere sue.11Credetemi: io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me; se no, credete a causa di quelle stesse opere.12In verità, in verità vi dico che chi crede in me farà anch’egli le opere che faccio io, e ne farà di maggiori, perché io me ne vado al Padre;13e quello che chiederete nel mio nome, lo farò, affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.14Se mi chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome io la farò.
Gesù promette lo Spirito Santo
15«Se voi mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti;16e io pregherò il Padre, ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore perché sia con voi per sempre:17lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi, e sarà in voi.18Non vi lascerò orfani; tornerò da voi.19Ancora un po’ e il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete, perché io vivo, e voi vivrete.20In quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e voi in me, e io in voi.21Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, quello mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio, e io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».22Giuda (non l’Iscariota) gli domandò: «Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo?»23Gesù gli rispose: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio lo amerà, e noi verremo da lui e dimoreremo presso di lui.24Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi ha mandato.25Vi ho detto queste cose, stando ancora con voi;26ma il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo, che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto quello che vi ho detto.27Vi lascio pace; vi do la mia pace. Io non vi do come il mondo dà. Il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si sgomenti.28Avete udito che vi ho detto: “Io me ne vado, e torno da voi”; se voi mi amaste, vi rallegrereste che io vada al Padre, perché il Padre è maggiore di me.29Ora ve l’ho detto prima che avvenga, affinché, quando sarà avvenuto, crediate.30Io non parlerò più con voi per molto, perché viene il principe del mondo. Egli non può nulla contro di me;31ma così avviene affinché il mondo conosca che amo il Padre e opero come il Padre mi ha ordinato. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui.
