1Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.2And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No-one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.4These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.5No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.
The three angels
6Then I saw another angel flying in mid-air, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth – to every nation, tribe, language and people.7He said in a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.’8A second angel followed and said, ‘ “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,” which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.’ (Isa 21:9)9A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: ‘If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand,10they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.11And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.’12This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.13Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Write this: blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them.’
Harvesting the earth and trampling the winepress
14I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man[1] with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. (Da 7:13)15Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, ‘Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.’16So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.17Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.18Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, ‘Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.’19The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.20They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.[2]
1Sedan såg jag Lammet stå på Sions berg[1], och tillsammans med Lammet stod 144 000 människor, som hade Lammets namn och hans Fars namn skrivna på sina pannor.2Och jag fick höra röster från himlen. Rösterna lät som dånet av stora vattenmassor, och som mullret av åska, eller som en hel orkester av harpor.3Dessa tusentals människor stod inför Guds tron och inför de fyra levande varelserna och de 24 himmelska ledarna och sjöng en ny sång. Och ingen kunde lära sig den sången, utom de 144 000 som hade blivit friköpta från jorden.4Det är de som har hållit sig borta från avgudadyrkan och har bevarat sin andliga renhet.[2] De följer Lammet vart det än går, för de har blivit friköpta från jordens alla människor som en första skörd åt Gud och Lammet.5De har aldrig ljugit för någon, de är utan skuld.
De tre änglarna
6Efter det fick jag se en annan ängel, som flög mitt över himlen. Han hade ett evigt glädjebudskap att berätta för dem som bor på jorden, för alla länder och stammar och språk och folk.7Och han ropade med hög röst: ”Bäva inför Gud och ge honom äran, för tiden har kommit då han ska döma. Tillbe honom som skapade himlen och jorden och havet och alla vattenkällor.”8En andra ängel följde efter honom och ropade: ”Den stora staden Babylon har fallit, den stad som drog med sig världens folk i sin sexuella lössläppthet och blev orsak till att de nu får dricka Guds vredes vin.”[3]9Sedan följde en tredje ängel som ropade med hög röst: ”Alla som tillber odjuret[4] och dess bild och bär hans märke på pannan eller på handen,10måste också dricka av Guds vredes vin, som outspätt har hällts upp i Guds vredes bägare. Och de ska plågas med eld och svavel inför Guds änglar och Lammet.[5]11Röken från deras plågor ska stiga upp i all evighet, och de ska inte få någon lindring vare sig dag eller natt, alla dessa som tillber odjuret och dess bild och tar emot märket med odjurets namn[6].12Här behövs uthållighet hos dem som tillhör Gud, hos dem som håller fast vid Guds befallningar och tron på Jesus.”13Och jag hörde en röst från himlen som sa: ”Skriv ner detta: lyckliga är de som från och med nu dör medan de troget följer Herren Jesus! Ja, säger Guds Ande, de ska få vila från sitt lidande, för deras goda gärningar följer dem!”
Skördetid på jorden
14Sedan fick jag se ett vitt moln, och på det satt någon som liknade en människoson[7]. Han hade en krans av guld på sitt huvud och en vass lie i sin hand.15En ängel kom nu ut från templet och ropade med hög röst till honom som satt på molnet: ”Det är dags att skörda! Låt din lie svepa över jorden, för skörden är mogen.”16Han som satt på molnet svepte då med sin lie över jorden, och skörden på jorden samlades in.17Ännu en ängel kom ut från templet i himlen, och han hade också en vass lie.18Sedan kom en ängel ut från altaret i templet, och han hade makt över elden. Han ropade med hög röst till ängeln som hade den vassa lien: ”Ta din lie och skär av druvklasarna från jordens vinstock, för vindruvorna är mogna.”19Då svepte ängeln med sin lie över jorden och skar av druvklasarna och kastade druvorna i Guds vredes stora vinpress.20Druvorna trampades sedan i vinpressen utanför staden.[8] Och blod flöt därifrån i en ström som var så djup att den skulle nå upp till betslet på en häst, och strömmen var 1 600 stadier lång.
