Three hallelujahs for the fall of Babylon!

1 After these things I heard a roar in heaven. It sounded like a huge crowd shouting, ‘Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. 2 The way he judges is true and fair. He has judged the great prostitute. She made the earth impure with her terrible sins. God has paid her back for killing those who served him.’ 3 Again they shouted, ‘Hallelujah! The smoke from her fire goes up for ever and ever.’ 4 The 24 elders and the four living creatures bowed down. They worshipped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out, ‘Amen! Hallelujah!’ 5 Then a voice came from the throne. It said, ‘Praise our God, all you who serve him! Praise God, all you who have respect for him, both great and small!’ 6 Then I heard the noise of a huge crowd. It sounded like the roar of rushing waters and like loud thunder. The people were shouting, ‘Hallelujah! Our Lord God is the King who rules over all. 7 Let us be joyful and glad! Let us give him glory! It is time for the Lamb’s wedding. His bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given to her to wear.’ Fine linen stands for the right things that God’s holy people do. 9 Here is what the angel told me to write. ‘Blessed are those invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ Then he added, ‘These are the true words of God.’ 10 When I heard this, I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, ‘Don’t do that! I serve God, just as you do. I am God’s servant, just like believers who hold firmly to what Jesus has taught. Worship God! The Spirit of prophecy tells the truth about Jesus.’

The heavenly warrior has victory over the beast

11 I saw heaven standing open. There in front of me was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True. When he judges or makes war, he is always fair. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire. On his head are many crowns. A name is written on him that only he knows. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood. His name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses. They were dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of the rider’s mouth is a sharp sword. He will strike down the nations with the sword. Scripture says, ‘He will rule them with an iron sceptre.’ He tramples on the grapes of God’s winepress. The winepress stands for the terrible anger of the God who rules over all. (Ps 2:9) 16 Here is the name that is written on the rider’s robe and on his thigh. The greatest King of all and the most powerful Lord of all 17 I saw an angel standing in the sun. He shouted to all the birds flying high in the air, ‘Come! Gather together for the great supper of God. 18 Come and eat the dead bodies of kings, generals, and other mighty people. Eat the bodies of horses and their riders. Eat the bodies of all people, free and slave, great and small.’ 19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies. They had gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast and the false prophet were captured. The false prophet had done signs for the beast. In this way the false prophet had tricked some people. Those people had received the mark of the beast and had worshipped its statue. The beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into the lake of fire. The lake of fire burns with sulphur. 21 The rest were killed by the sword that came out of the rider’s mouth. All the birds stuffed themselves with the dead bodies.

Gioia e trionfo nei cieli; le nozze dell’Agnello

1 Dopo queste cose, udii nel cielo una gran voce come di una folla immensa, che diceva: «Alleluia^[1]! La salvezza, la gloria e la potenza appartengono al nostro Dio, 2 perché veritieri e giusti sono i suoi giudizi. Egli ha giudicato la grande prostituta che corrompeva la terra con la sua prostituzione e ha vendicato il sangue dei suoi servi, chiedendone conto alla mano di lei». 3 E dissero una seconda volta: «Alleluia! Il suo fumo sale per i secoli dei secoli». 4 Allora i ventiquattro anziani e le quattro creature viventi si prostrarono e adorarono Dio che siede sul trono, dicendo: «Amen! Alleluia!» 5 Dal trono venne una voce che diceva: «Lodate il nostro Dio, voi tutti suoi servitori, voi che lo temete, piccoli e grandi». 6 Poi udii come la voce di una gran folla e come il fragore di grandi acque e come il rombo di forti tuoni, che diceva: «Alleluia! Perché il Signore, {nostro} Dio, l’Onnipotente, ha stabilito il suo regno. 7 Rallegriamoci ed esultiamo e diamo a lui la gloria, perché sono giunte le nozze dell’Agnello e la sua sposa si è preparata. 8 Le è stato dato di vestirsi di lino fino, risplendente e puro; poiché il lino fino sono le opere giuste dei santi». 9 E l’angelo mi disse: «Scrivi: “Beati quelli che sono invitati alla cena delle nozze dell’Agnello”». Poi aggiunse: «Queste sono le parole veritiere di Dio». 10 Io mi prostrai ai suoi piedi per adorarlo. Ma egli mi disse: «Guàrdati dal farlo. Io sono un servo come te e come i tuoi fratelli che custodiscono la testimonianza di Gesù: adora Dio! Perché la testimonianza di Gesù è lo spirito della profezia».

Seconda venuta di Cristo; vittoria sulla bestia e sul falso profeta

11 Poi vidi il cielo aperto, ed ecco apparire un cavallo bianco. Colui che lo cavalcava si chiama Fedele e Veritiero, perché giudica e combatte con giustizia. 12 I suoi occhi erano {come} fiamma di fuoco, sul suo capo vi erano molti diademi e portava scritto un nome che nessuno conosce fuorché lui. 13 Era vestito di una veste tinta di sangue e il suo nome è «la Parola di Dio». 14 Gli eserciti che sono nel cielo lo seguivano sopra cavalli bianchi, ed erano vestiti di lino fino bianco e puro. 15 Dalla bocca gli usciva una spada affilata per colpire le nazioni; ed egli le governerà con una verga di ferro^[2], e pigerà il tino del vino dell’ira ardente del Dio onnipotente. 16 E sulla veste e sulla coscia portava scritto un nome: «Re dei re e Signore dei signori». 17 Poi vidi un angelo che stava in piedi nel sole. Egli gridò a gran voce a tutti gli uccelli che volano in mezzo al cielo: «Venite! Radunatevi per il gran banchetto di Dio, 18 per mangiare carne di re, di capitani, di prodi, di cavalli e di cavalieri, di uomini d’ogni sorta, liberi e schiavi, piccoli e grandi». 19 E vidi la bestia e i re della terra e i loro eserciti radunati per far guerra a colui che era sul cavallo e al suo esercito. 20 Ma la bestia fu presa, e con lei fu preso il falso profeta che aveva fatto segni miracolosi davanti a lei, con i quali aveva sedotto quelli che avevano preso il marchio della bestia e quelli che adoravano la sua immagine. Tutti e due furono gettati vivi nello stagno ardente di fuoco e di zolfo. 21 Il rimanente fu ucciso con la spada che usciva dalla bocca di colui che era sul cavallo, e tutti gli uccelli si saziarono delle loro carni.
