1LORD, listen to my words. Pay attention when I mourn.2My King and my God, hear me when I cry for help. I pray to you.3LORD, in the morning you hear my voice. In the morning I pray to you. I wait for you in hope.4For you, God, aren’t happy with anything that is evil. Those who do what is wrong can’t live where you are.5Those who are proud can’t stand in front of you. You hate everyone who does what is evil.6You destroy those who tell lies. LORD, you hate murderers and those who cheat others.7Because of your great love I can come into your house. With deep respect I bow down towards your holy temple.8LORD, I have many enemies. Lead me in your right path. Make your way smooth and straight for me.9Not a word from their mouths can be trusted. Their hearts are filled with a desire to hurt others. Their throats are like open graves. With their tongues they tell lies.10God, show that they are guilty. Let their evil plans bring them down. Send them away because of their many sins. They have refused to obey you.11But let all those who go to you for safety be glad. Let them always sing for joy. Spread your cover over them and keep them safe. Then those who love you will be glad because of you.12Surely, LORD, you bless those who do what is right. Like a shield, your loving care keeps them safe.

Preghiera contro gli empi
1Al direttore del coro. Per strumenti a fiato. Salmo di Davide. Porgi l’orecchio alle mie parole, o Signore, sii attento ai miei sospiri.2Odi il mio grido d’aiuto, o mio Re e mio Dio, perché a te rivolgo la mia preghiera.3O Signore, al mattino tu ascolti la mia voce; al mattino ti offro la mia preghiera e attendo un tuo cenno;4poiché tu non sei un Dio che prenda piacere nell’empietà; presso di te il male non trova dimora.5Quelli che si vantano non resisteranno davanti agli occhi tuoi; tu detesti tutti gli operatori d’iniquità.6Tu farai perire i bugiardi; il Signore disprezza l’uomo sanguinario e disonesto.7Ma io, per la tua grande bontà, potrò entrare nella tua casa; rivolto al tuo tempio santo, adorerò con timore.8O Signore, guidami con la tua giustizia, a causa dei miei nemici; che io veda diritta davanti a me la tua via,9poiché nella loro bocca non c’è sincerità, il loro cuore è pieno di malizia; la loro gola è un sepolcro aperto, lusingano con la loro lingua.10Condannali, o Dio! Non riescano nei loro propositi! Scacciali per tutti i loro misfatti, poiché si sono ribellati a te.11Si rallegreranno tutti quelli che in te confidano; manderanno grida di gioia per sempre. Tu li proteggerai, e quelli che amano il tuo nome si rallegreranno in te,12perché tu, o Signore, benedirai il giusto; come scudo lo circonderai con il tuo favore.
