1Jesus called for his 12 disciples to come to him. He gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every illness and disease.2Here are the names of the 12 apostles. First there were Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. Then came James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John.3Next were Philip and Bartholomew, and also Thomas and Matthew the tax collector. Two more were James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus.4The last were Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot. Judas was the one who was later going to hand Jesus over to his enemies.5Jesus sent these 12 out with the following orders. ‘Do not go among the Gentiles,’ he said. ‘Do not enter any town of the Samaritans.6Instead, go to the people of Israel. They are like sheep that have become lost.7As you go, preach this message, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.”8Heal those who are ill. Bring those who are dead back to life. Make those who have skin diseases “clean” again. Drive out demons. You have received freely, so give freely.9‘Do not get any gold, silver or copper to take with you in your belts.10Do not take a bag for the journey. Do not take extra clothes or sandals or walking sticks. A worker should be given what he needs.11When you enter a town or village, look for someone who is willing to welcome you. Stay at their house until you leave.12As you enter the home, greet those who live there.13If that home welcomes you, give it your blessing of peace. If it does not, don’t bless it.14Some people may not welcome you or listen to your words. If they don’t, leave that home or town, and shake the dust off your feet.15What I’m about to tell you is true. On judgment day it will be easier for Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.16‘I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as harmless as doves.17Watch out! You will be handed over to the local courts. You will be whipped in the synagogues.18You will be brought to governors and kings because of me. You will be witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.19But when they arrest you, don’t worry about what you will say or how you will say it. At that time you will be given the right words to say.20It will not be you speaking. The Spirit of your Father will be speaking through you.21‘Brothers will hand over brothers to be killed. Fathers will hand over their children. Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death.22You will be hated by everyone because of me. But anyone who remains strong in the faith will be saved.23When people attack you in one place, escape to another. What I’m about to tell you is true. You will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.24‘The student is not better than the teacher. A slave is not better than his master.25It is enough for students to be like their teachers. And it is enough for slaves to be like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, what can the others who live there expect?26‘So don’t be afraid of your enemies. Everything that is secret will be brought out into the open. Everything that is hidden will be uncovered.27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight. What is whispered in your ear, shout from the rooftops.28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.29Aren’t two sparrows sold for only a penny? But not one of them falls to the ground outside your Father’s care.30He even counts every hair on your head!31So don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.32‘What if someone says in front of others that they know me? I will also say in front of my Father who is in heaven that I know them.33But what if someone says in front of others that they don’t know me? I will say in front of my Father who is in heaven that I don’t know them.34‘Do not think that I came to bring peace to the earth. I didn’t come to bring peace. I came to bring a sword.35I have come to turn ‘ “sons against their fathers. Daughters will refuse to obey their mothers. Daughters-in-law will be against their mothers-in-law.36A man’s enemies will be the members of his own family.” (Mic 7:6)37‘Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. Anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.38Whoever does not pick up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.39Whoever finds their life will lose it. Whoever loses their life because of me will find it.40‘Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me. And anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.41Suppose someone welcomes a prophet as a prophet. They will receive a prophet’s reward. And suppose someone welcomes a godly person as a godly person. They will receive a godly person’s reward.42Suppose someone gives even a cup of cold water to a little one who follows me. What I’m about to tell you is true. That person will certainly be rewarded.’

Der Auftrag der Jünger
5Diese zwölf sandte Jesus aus mit dem Auftrag: »Meidet die Orte, wo Nichtjuden wohnen, und geht auch nicht in die Städte Samariens, (Mr 6:7; Lu 9:2; Lu 10:4; Lu 10:33)6sondern geht zum Volk Israel, dieser Herde von verlorenen Schafen. (Jer 50:6; Mt 15:24; Ac 13:46)7Verkündet ihnen: ›Jetzt wird Gott seine Herrschaft aufrichten und sein Werk vollenden!‹[2] (Mt 4:17)8Heilt die Kranken, weckt die Toten auf, macht die Aussätzigen rein und treibt die bösen Geister aus! Umsonst habt ihr alles bekommen, umsonst sollt ihr es weitergeben.9Beschafft euch kein Reisegeld, weder Goldstücke noch Silber- oder Kupfergeld!10Besorgt euch auch keine Vorratstasche, kein zweites Hemd, keine Schuhe und keinen Wanderstock! Denn wer arbeitet, hat ein Anrecht auf Unterhalt. (1Co 9:14; 1Ti 5:18)11Wenn ihr in eine Stadt oder in ein Dorf kommt, dann findet heraus, wer es wert ist, euch in sein Haus aufzunehmen. Bleibt dort, bis ihr weiterzieht.12Wenn ihr das Haus betretet, dann wünscht allen, die darin wohnen, Frieden!13Wenn sie es wert sind, wird euer Friedenswunsch in Erfüllung gehen. Andernfalls bleibt er wirkungslos. (Lu 2:14)14Wo sie euch nicht aufnehmen und nicht anhören wollen, da geht aus dem Haus oder der Stadt weg und schüttelt den Staub von den Füßen. (Ac 13:51)15Ich versichere euch: Am Tag des Gerichts wird Gott mit den Leuten von Sodom und Gomorra mehr Nachsicht haben als mit den Bewohnern einer solchen Stadt.« (Ge 18:20; Ge 19:1; Mt 11:24; Lu 10:12)
Drohende Verfolgungen
16»Das muss euch klar sein: Ich sende euch wie Schafe mitten unter Wölfe. Seid klug wie die Schlangen und doch ohne Hinterlist wie die Tauben. (Mr 13:9; Lu 10:3)17Nehmt euch in Acht vor den Menschen! Sie werden euch an die Gerichte ausliefern und in ihren Synagogen auspeitschen. (Mt 24:9; Joh 16:1; Ac 5:40; 2Co 11:24)18Auch vor Statthalter und Könige werdet ihr um meinetwillen gestellt werden, um auch vor ihnen, den Vertretern der nicht jüdischen Völker,[3] als Zeugen für mich auszusagen. (Ac 24:1)19Wenn sie euch an die Gerichte ausliefern, dann macht euch keine Sorgen, was ihr sagen sollt oder wie ihr es sagen sollt. Es wird euch im entscheidenden Augenblick schon eingegeben werden. (Lu 12:11)20Nicht ihr werdet dann reden, sondern der Geist eures Vaters wird aus euch sprechen.21Ein Bruder wird den andern dem Henker ausliefern und ein Vater seine Kinder. Kinder werden sich gegen ihre Eltern stellen und sie in den Tod schicken. (Mt 10:35)22Alle werden euch hassen, weil ihr euch zu mir bekennt. Aber wer bis zum Ende standhaft bleibt, wird gerettet. (Lu 6:22; Joh 15:18)23Wenn sie euch in der einen Stadt verfolgen, dann flieht in eine andere. Ich versichere euch: Ihr werdet mit eurem Auftrag in den Städten Israels nicht fertig werden, bis der Menschensohn kommt. (Mt 16:28; Ac 8:1)24Kein Schüler steht über seinem Lehrer und kein Sklave über seinem Herrn. (Joh 13:16)25Der Schüler kann froh sein, wenn es ihm ergeht wie seinem Lehrer, und der Sklave, wenn es ihm ergeht wie seinem Herrn. Wenn sie schon den Hausherrn Oberteufel[4] nennen, dann werden sie seine Leute erst recht so beschimpfen.« (Mt 9:34)
Wen man fürchten muss
26»Fürchtet euch nicht vor diesen Menschen! Was verhüllt ist, wird offenbar werden, und was niemand weiß, wird allen bekannt werden. (Mr 4:22; Lu 12:2)27Was ich euch in der Dunkelheit anvertraue, das sagt am hellen Tag weiter, und was ich euch ins Ohr flüstere, das ruft laut in der Öffentlichkeit aus.28Fürchtet euch nicht vor denen, die nur den Leib, aber nicht die Seele töten können. Fürchtet euch vor Gott, der Leib und Seele ins ewige Verderben schicken kann. (Ps 56:5; Heb 10:31)29Kauft man nicht zwei Spatzen für einen Groschen? Und doch fällt nicht einmal ein Spatz auf die Erde, ohne dass euer Vater es weiß.30Bei euch aber ist sogar jedes Haar auf dem Kopf gezählt. (Lu 21:18)31Habt also keine Angst: Ihr seid Gott mehr wert als ein ganzer Schwarm Spatzen!32Wer sich vor den Menschen zu mir bekennt, zu dem werde auch ich mich bekennen am Gerichtstag vor meinem Vater im Himmel.33Wer mich aber vor den Menschen nicht kennen will, den werde auch ich am Gerichtstag vor meinem Vater im Himmel nicht kennen.« (Mr 8:38; 2Ti 2:12)
Kein fauler Frieden
34»Denkt nicht, dass ich gekommen bin, Frieden in die Welt zu bringen. Nein, ich bin nicht gekommen, Frieden zu bringen, sondern Streit. (Lu 2:14; Lu 12:51; Lu 14:26; Lu 17:33)35Ich bin gekommen, um die Söhne mit ihren Vätern zu entzweien, die Töchter mit ihren Müttern und die Schwiegertöchter mit ihren Schwiegermüttern. (Mic 7:6; Mt 10:21; Mt 24:10; Mr 13:12; Lu 12:52)36Die nächsten Verwandten werden einander zu Feinden werden.37Wer Vater oder Mutter mehr liebt als mich, ist es nicht wert, zu mir zu gehören. Wer Sohn oder Tochter mehr liebt als mich, ist es nicht wert, zu mir zu gehören. (De 13:7; De 33:9; Mt 19:29)38Wer nicht sein Kreuz auf sich nimmt und mir auf meinem Weg folgt, ist es nicht wert, zu mir zu gehören. (Mt 16:24; Lu 17:33; Joh 12:25)39Wer sein Leben festhalten will, wird es verlieren. Wer es aber um meinetwillen verliert, wird es gewinnen.«
Die Würde der Jünger
40»Wer euch aufnimmt, nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat. (Mt 18:5; Mr 9:41; Lu 10:16; Joh 13:20; Ga 4:14)41Wer einen Propheten[5] aufnimmt, weil er ein Prophet ist, wird auch wie ein Prophet belohnt. Wer einen Gerechten aufnimmt, weil er ein Gerechter ist, wird auch wie ein Gerechter belohnt.42Und wer einem ganz unbedeutenden Menschen auch nur einen Schluck kaltes Wasser zu trinken gibt – einfach weil er mein Jünger ist –, ich versichere euch, wer das tut, wird ganz gewiss nicht leer ausgehen.«
