Isaiah 62

New International Reader’s Version

1 The LORD says, ‘For the good of Zion I will not keep silent. For Jerusalem’s benefit I will not remain quiet. I will not keep silent until what I will do for them shines like the sunrise. I will not remain quiet until they are saved and shine like a blazing torch.2 Jerusalem, the nations will see that I have made everything right for you. All their kings will see your glory. You will be called by a new name. I myself will give it to you.3 You will be like a glorious crown in my strong hand. You will be like a royal crown in my powerful hand.4 People will not call you Deserted anymore. They will no longer name your land Empty. Instead, you will be called One the LORD Delights In. Your land will be named Married One. That’s because the LORD will take delight in you. And your land will be married.5 As a young man marries a young woman, so your Builder will marry you. As a groom is happy with his bride, so your God will be full of joy over you.’6 Jerusalem, I have stationed guards on your walls. They must never be silent day or night. You who call out to the LORD must not give yourselves any rest.7 And don’t give him any rest until he makes Jerusalem secure. Don’t give him any peace until people all over the earth praise that city.8 The LORD has made a promise. He has lifted up his right hand and mighty arm. He has promised, ‘I will never give your corn to your enemies for food again. Outsiders will never again drink the fresh wine you have worked so hard for.9 Instead, those who gather the corn will eat it themselves. And they will praise me. Those who gather grapes to make the wine will enjoy it. They will drink it in the courtyards of my temple.’10 Go out through your gates, people of Jerusalem! Go out! Prepare the way for the rest of your people to return. Build up the road! Build it up! Remove the stones. Raise a banner over the city for the nations to see.11 The LORD has announced a message from one end of the earth to the other. He has said, ‘Tell the people of Zion, “Look! Your Saviour is coming! He is bringing his people back as his reward. He has won the battle over their enemies.” ’12 They will be called the Holy People. They will be called the People the LORD Set Free. And Jerusalem will be named the City the LORD Cares About. It will be named the City No Longer Deserted.

Isaiah 62

English Standard Version

1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. (Pr 4:18; Isa 62:6)2 The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. (Ps 98:2; Isa 60:3; Isa 60:14; Re 2:17; Re 3:12)3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. (Isa 54:11; Zec 9:16)4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken,[1] and your land shall no more be termed Desolate,[2] but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her,[3] and your land Married;[4] for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. (Isa 49:14; Isa 54:1; Isa 54:6; Isa 54:7; Isa 60:15; Isa 62:2; Ho 1:10; Mal 3:12; 1Pe 2:10)5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. (Isa 51:18; Isa 65:19)6 On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, (Isa 52:8; Isa 56:10)7 and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth. (Isa 60:18; Isa 61:11; Zep 3:20)8 The Lord has sworn by his right hand and by his mighty arm: “I will not again give your grain to be food for your enemies, and foreigners shall not drink your wine for which you have labored; (De 28:33; Isa 65:21; Jer 5:17; Heb 6:13)9 but those who garner it shall eat it and praise the Lord, and those who gather it shall drink it in the courts of my sanctuary.”[5] (De 12:12; De 14:23; De 14:26)10 Go through, go through the gates; prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway; clear it of stones; lift up a signal over the peoples. (Isa 11:10; Isa 40:3; Isa 49:22; Isa 57:14)11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.” (Isa 40:10; Zec 9:9; Mt 21:5; Joh 12:15)12 And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken. (Isa 61:4; Isa 61:6; Isa 62:4)
