1»Schreibe an den Engel der Gemeinde in Sardes: Der, bei dem die sieben Geister Gottes sind und der die sieben Sterne in seiner Hand hält, lässt ´der Gemeinde` sagen: Ich weiß, wie du lebst und was du tust. Du stehst im Ruf, eine lebendige Gemeinde zu sein, aber in Wirklichkeit bist du tot.2Wach auf und stärke, was noch am Leben ist, damit es nicht auch stirbt[1]. Denn ich musste feststellen, dass das, was du tust, nicht vor meinem Gott bestehen kann[2].3Erinnerst du dich nicht, wie bereitwillig du das Evangelium aufnahmst und auf seine Botschaft hörtest?[3] Richte dich wieder nach ´meinem Wort` und kehre um! Wenn du jedoch weiterhin schläfst, werde ich dich wie ein Dieb überraschen und zu einem Zeitpunkt kommen, an dem du nicht mit mir rechnest.4Aber es gibt bei euch in Sardes einige[4], die ihre Kleider nicht beschmutzt haben. Sie werden einmal in weißen Festgewändern ´im Triumphzug` neben mir hergehen; sie sind es wert.5Jedem, der siegreich aus dem Kampf hervorgeht, wird ein weißes Festgewand angelegt werden. Und ich werde seinen Namen nicht aus dem Buch des Lebens streichen, sondern mich vor meinem Vater und seinen Engeln zu ihm[5] bekennen.6Wer bereit ist zu hören, achte auf das, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt!«
Die Botschaft an die Gemeinde in Philadelphia
7»Schreibe an den Engel der Gemeinde in Philadelphia: Der, der heilig ist, dessen Wort wahr ist[6] und der den Schlüssel Davids hat – wenn er aufschließt, kann niemand zuschließen, und wenn er zuschließt, kann niemand aufschließen –, der lässt ´der Gemeinde` sagen:8Ich weiß, wie du lebst und was du tust: Du hast nur wenig Kraft, aber du hast dich nach meinem Wort gerichtet und dich unerschrocken zu meinem Namen bekannt. Darum habe ich eine Tür vor dir geöffnet, die niemand zuschließen kann.9Ich werde sogar dafür sorgen, dass Leute aus der Synagoge des Satans zu dir kommen und sich vor dir niederwerfen – Leute, die lügen, indem sie sich Juden nennen, obwohl sie gar keine ´wahren` Juden sind. Sie sollen erkennen[7], wie sehr ich dich liebe.10Weil du dich an meine Aufforderung gehalten hast, standhaft zu bleiben[8], werde auch ich zu dir halten und dich bewahren, wenn die große Versuchung über die Welt hereinbricht, jene Zeit[9], in der die ganze Menschheit den Mächten der Verführung[10] ausgesetzt sein wird.11Ich komme bald. Halte fest, was du hast! Lass dich von niemand um deinen Siegeskranz bringen!12Den, der siegreich aus dem Kampf hervorgeht, werde ich zu einem Pfeiler im Tempel meines Gottes machen, und er wird seinen Platz für immer behalten[11]. Und auf seine Stirn[12] werde ich den Namen meines Gottes schreiben und den Namen der Stadt meines Gottes, des neuen Jerusalems, das von ihm aus dem Himmel herabkommen wird, und meinen eigenen neuen Namen.13Wer bereit ist zu hören, achte auf das, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt!«

14»Und an den Engel der Gemeinde in Laodizea schreibe: Der, der treu ist[13], der vertrauenswürdige[14] und zuverlässige Zeuge, der Ursprung von allem[15], was Gott geschaffen hat – der lässt ´der Gemeinde` sagen:15Ich weiß, wie du lebst und was du tust; ich weiß, dass du weder kalt noch warm bist. Wenn du doch das eine oder das andere wärst!16Aber weil du weder warm noch kalt bist, sondern lauwarm, werde ich dich aus meinem Mund ausspucken.17Du sagst: ›Ich bin reich und habe alles im Überfluss[16], es fehlt mir an nichts‹, und dabei merkst du nicht, in was für einem jämmerlichen und erbärmlichen Zustand du bist – arm, blind und nackt.18Ich rate dir: Kaufe bei mir Gold, das im Feuer gereinigt wurde, damit du reich wirst, und weiße Kleider, damit du etwas anzuziehen hast und nicht nackt dastehen und dich schämen musst. Kaufe auch Salbe und streiche sie dir auf die Augen, damit du wieder sehen kannst.19So mache ich es mit allen, die ich liebe: Ich decke auf, was bei ihnen verkehrt ist, und weise sie zurecht[17]. Darum mach Schluss mit deiner Gleichgültigkeit und kehre um!20Merkst du nicht, dass ich vor der Tür stehe und anklopfe?[18] Wer meine Stimme hört und mir öffnet, zu dem werde ich hineingehen, und wir werden miteinander essen – ich mit ihm und er mit mir.21Dem, der siegreich aus dem Kampf hervorgeht, werde ich das Recht geben, mit mir auf meinem Thron zu sitzen, so wie auch ich den Sieg errungen habe und jetzt mit meinem Vater auf seinem Thron sitze.22Wer bereit ist zu hören, achte auf das, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt!«

What he opens no-one can shut, and what he shuts no-one can open.8I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no-one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.9I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars – I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.10Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.11I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no-one will take your crown.12The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I wish you were either one or the other!16So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.17You say, “I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.” But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so that you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so that you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so that you can see.19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.
