1Die Menschen begannen, sich zu vermehren und auf der Erde auszubreiten. Sie bekamen auch ´viele` Töchter.2Als die Gottessöhne[1] sahen, wie schön die Menschentöchter waren, nahmen sie sich diejenigen, die ihnen am besten gefielen[2], zu Frauen. (2Sam 7,14; Ps 2,7; Ps 29,1)3Da sagte der HERR: »Mein ´lebenspendender` Geist[3] soll nicht mehr für so lange Zeit[4] im Menschen wohnen, denn der Mensch ist schwach und anfällig für das Böse[5]. Seine Lebenszeit soll ´höchstens` 120 Jahre betragen.«4Aus der Verbindung der Gottessöhne mit den Menschentöchtern gingen Riesen[6] hervor. Sie lebten damals – und auch später noch – auf der Erde und sind bekannt als die großen Helden der Vorzeit. (4Mo 13,33)5Der HERR sah, wieviel Unheil die Menschen überall auf der Erde anrichteten. Bei all ihrem Denken und Planen kam stets nur Böses heraus.[7]6Er bereute, dass er sie gemacht und ihnen die Erde anvertraut hatte[8]. Obwohl er tiefen Schmerz dabei empfand,7beschloss der HERR: »Ich werde die Menschen, die ich geschaffen habe, wieder vernichten. Sie sollen vom Erdboden verschwinden. Und nicht nur sie, sondern auch alle Landtiere[9], Kriechtiere und Vögel. Ich wünschte, ich hätte sie gar nicht erst erschaffen.«8Nur an Noah fand der HERR Gefallen.
Gott beauftragt Noah mit dem Bau der Arche
9Dies ist die Geschichte von Noah und seiner Familie:[10] Im Gegensatz zu seinen Zeitgenossen war Noah ein rechtschaffener und aufrichtiger Mann. Er lebte in enger Gemeinschaft mit Gott. (1Mo 2,4)10Noah hatte drei Söhne, sie hießen Sem, Ham und Jafet.11Die ´übrige` Menschheit konnte vor Gott nicht bestehen, überall herrschten Unrecht und Gewalt.12Wohin Gott auch sah: die Verdorbenheit hatte überhand genommen[11], alle hatten den rechten Weg verlassen und sich dem Bösen zugewandt[12].13Deshalb sagte Gott zu Noah: »Ich habe beschlossen, die Menschheit auszulöschen, denn ihretwegen herrschen überall Unrecht und Gewalt. Darum werde ich die Menschen mitsamt ´allem anderen auf` der Erde vernichten.14Bau dir ein kastenförmiges Schiff[13] aus festem Holz[14]. Zieh Längs- und Querwände ein[15] und dichte ´den Rumpf` außen und innen mit Pech ab.15Mach das Schiff 150 Meter[16] lang, 25 Meter[17] breit und 15 Meter[18] hoch.16Versieh es mit einem Dach und lass über ´dem Rumpf` einen halben Meter Abstand bis zum Dach.[19] Bring auf einer Seite des Schiffs eine Tür an und zieh ´im Rumpf` zwei Zwischenböden ein, damit insgesamt drei Stockwerke entstehen.17Denn sei gewiss: Ich werde eine große Flut über die Erde kommen lassen, die alles, was atmet[20], vernichtet. Was immer auf der Erde lebt, soll umkommen.18Aber mit dir will ich einen Bund schließen: Gemeinsam mit deiner Frau, deinen Söhnen und deinen Schwiegertöchtern sollst du in der Arche Schutz finden[21].19Nimm von allen Tieren[22] jeweils zwei mit in die Arche, ein Männchen und ein Weibchen, damit sie zusammen mit dir überleben.20Das gilt für alle Vögel, Landtiere und Kriechtiere: Von jeder einzelnen Art sollen zwei Tiere mit dir in die Arche gehen, damit sie am Leben bleiben.21Besorge genügend Nahrungsmittel und lagere sie ein, damit ihr und die Tiere ´auf dem Schiff` zu essen habt.«22Noah führte alles genau so aus, wie Gott es ihm aufgetragen hatte.
1Und es geschah, als sich die Menschen zu mehren begannen auf der Erde und ihnen Töchter geboren wurden, (1Mo 1,28)2da sahen die Gottessöhne[1], dass die Töchter der Menschen schön waren, und sie nahmen sich von allen jene zu Frauen, die ihnen gefielen. (1Mo 12,11; 1Mo 24,16; Esr 9,2; Hi 1,6; Spr 6,25)3Da sprach der HERR: Mein Geist soll nicht für immer mit dem Menschen rechten, denn er ist [ja] Fleisch; so sollen seine Tage 120 Jahre betragen! (Neh 9,30; Ps 78,39; Pred 8,12; Jes 63,10; Joh 3,6; Apg 7,51; Gal 3,3; Gal 5,17; Gal 5,19; 2Petr 3,8)4In jenen Tagen waren die Riesen auf der Erde, und auch später noch, solange die Gottessöhne zu den Töchtern der Menschen kamen und diese ihnen [Kinder] gebaren. Das sind die Helden, die von jeher berühmte Männer gewesen sind. (4Mo 13,33; 5Mo 2,10; 1Sam 17,4)5Als aber der HERR sah, dass die Bosheit des Menschen sehr groß war auf der Erde und alles Trachten der Gedanken seines Herzens allezeit nur böse, (1Mo 8,21; Spr 6,14; Jer 17,9; Mt 15,19)6da reute es den HERRN, dass er den Menschen gemacht hatte auf der Erde, und es betrübte ihn in seinem Herzen. (2Mo 32,14; 1Sam 15,11; Ps 95,10; Ps 106,40)7Und der HERR sprach: Ich will den Menschen, den ich erschaffen habe, vom Erdboden vertilgen, vom Menschen an bis zum Vieh und bis zum Gewürm und bis zu den Vögeln des Himmels; denn es reut mich, dass ich sie gemacht habe! Gottes Gnade für Noah. Der Bau der Arche
8Noah aber fand Gnade in den Augen des HERRN. (1Mo 19,19; 2Mo 33,17; 2Sam 15,25; Apg 7,46)9Dies ist die Geschichte Noahs: Noah, ein gerechter Mann, war untadelig unter seinen Zeitgenossen; Noah wandelte mit Gott. (1Mo 5,1; 1Mo 5,22; 1Mo 7,1; Hi 1,1; Lk 1,6)10Und Noah hatte drei Söhne gezeugt: Sem, Ham und Japhet. (1Mo 5,32)11Aber die Erde war verderbt vor Gott, und die Erde war erfüllt mit Frevel. (Jer 5,27)12Und Gott sah die Erde an, und siehe, sie war verderbt; denn alles Fleisch hatte seinen Weg verderbt auf der Erde. 1When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,2the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.3Then the Lord said, ‘My Spirit will not contend with[1] humans for ever, for they are mortal[2]; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.’4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days – and also afterwards – when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.5The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.6The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.7So the Lord said, ‘I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created – and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground – for I regret that I have made them.’8But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord.
Noah and the flood
9This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.10Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.11Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.12God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.13So God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.14So make yourself an ark of cypress[3] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.15This is how you are to build it: the ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.[4]16Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit[5] high all around.[6] Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.17I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it.
